FOOD AND GUN CONTROL
I can’t for the life of me understand the fuss that is being made about the Supreme Court ruling on the DC pistol ban. At the beginning glimmers of hope were seen and eagerly grasped at. This was obviously wishful thinking set at Super Blinding Bright. Even if the Idiots In Charge did rule in favor of individuals they would use lawyer weasel words to dance around it anyway. The Powers That Be do as they wish and the only thing protest accomplishes is for them to either taser you, get the media to portray you as crazy or wait a short time and do what they had originally planned anyway. The Voice Of The People is the last consideration they are going to have. The only thing they care about is whitewashing everything for the upcoming circus so your bread goes down without indigestion.
*
The Court dancing on the subject is all circus activity anyway. Off hand I can’t say why they started the whole thing since in the past they just ignored any legal challenge to their ban on the Bill Of Rights. Not that it really matters. They’ve already decided anyway. My guess is it is going to simply be the status quo. They might make minor cosmetic changes such as allowing guns but allowing the District to put such roadblocks in front of licensing that it becomes a de facto ban anyway. The fat cats occupying smoke filled rooms are not total idiots. They can see that an actually ban ( in general, not the DC one per se ) is unhealthy for them. Revolution is too messy and easily avoided. Instead of banning guns they just make them affordable only to the well off segment of the population, the one that follows the law to the letter because they are afraid of losing it all if their masters disapprove of their objections ( I was simply amazed at the hoops jumped through by California residents trying to own a battle rifle ). I imagine that shortly America will demonstrate how to have a Police State amongst an armed civilian populace. Of course in the end a revolution will start, once enough people start going hungry. That will be the only thing getting folks off their butts.
*
Look at our gun control laws. Nothing is banned, it is merely moved beyond the finances of 95% of the population. Look at our ammunition taxes. Nothing is directly taxed at high rates such as the nineties when 1000% was threatened, but by using Federal Monopoly money to buy up the civilian supply and ship it over to Mesopotamia a sort of tax has been imposed. In effect, civilians will now own a lot less ammunition. You might own a fifty cal sniper rifle but the UN regional director won’t have to worry much about you turning his limo into Swiss cheese from a mile away. You’re out of ammo three weeks after The Troubles start. Clinton thought it was pretty slick of himself to ban Chinese firearm imports ( or was that Hillary’s idea? ) and deny the financially destitute militia the means of an assault rifle. He might not have seen the East European import possibility. And, really, the new guns are generally better and cost less than double of what they did fifteen years ago. Not bad at all considering the price inflation on everything else. Of course, that little loophole can easily be plugged just by banning the ammunition. No one is going to buy enough brass cased 7.62x39 to be an effective fighting force. Without steel cased ammo the SKS and AK will quickly cease to be much of a threat.
*
See, you don’t ban the guns. You take away the magazines or ammunition. And, you don’t even “take them away”. You just make them so expensive almost no one will buy them. And those that do will be on someone’s radar and the 3 a.m. ninja raiding team will take care of them over a two month old delinquent tax bill or a snitch report about drugs or a file being mysteriously hacked and that person showing up on a sex offenders list. Then it becomes not about guns but about a scumbag getting his just desserts. The Sheeple go back to sleep and we “retain” our 2nd Amendment rights. The majority that violently protest ( as the media inquires why there is a fuss since, sure, the evil assault rifle has been banned from import but you can still own a hunting rifle, but no ones rights were violated ) will work singularly and with only modestly effective weapons. The type that is poor enough to fight back with nothing to lose is poor enough to win a battle and then lose the war. The best sniper around will not last long against air power. If he does, the civilian populace in general will rat him out eventually.
*
Eventually our economic situation will get bad enough that the revolution will hit the streets. The only thing that will motivate the average Joe will be hitting him where it hurts. You could predict that gasoline carrot and stick would be enough to control him ( the publics lack of concern over the cost of soldiers and treasure in our next forever war might be explained by their fear of having to de-ass the SUV and walk anywhere ). But eventually the economy gets bad enough and the meals start getting skipped. Yes, 90% of Americans could miss quite a few meals. No, most of those will not miss all that many before they start supporting a revolt. They don’t care about the Constitution or the Bill Of Rights or Common Law or Freedom. They care about where their next Big Mac is coming from. They will either support revolution or government control on par with Stalin, whichever gets them their creature comforts. So don’t expect many people to join you for the right reasons.
*
If the government can control and distribute the food ( regardless of how they do it ) during a crisis ( and you got to wonder if the new wheat rust outbreak is all natural ) the citizens will be against anyone revolting ( we have been assuming a revolt if guns are banned ). They will not feed you. If the government is still giving the fiction that we still have a Constitution then they will use food as a weapon against you and you will starve while heavily armed. I can’t come up with a good propaganda line to tie surrendering guns in with food distribution rights but I’m sure the government can. How about this. You are allowed guns, but not in an urban area. For security reasons. But to receive food aid you must be a resident in an urban area ( besides which that is where the jobs are now that petroleum is rationed ). The government has already started towards making small farmers go broke ( first it is livestock, next all food. None may be sold without tracking devices that cost a lot, you have no other job, can’t pay property tax without cash, can’t profitably sell food, no more farm ) and eventually only mega-agri-regions will remain. Then the government ( not to mention the corporations ) will control all the food and then you. But you still retain the option of opting out of the system. No rights are being violated ( everything is allowed, but controlled and taxed and regulated beyond viability-so no rights are violated ).
*
Do you see where I am going here? The whole thing is smoke blown up your ass. The boys large and in charge will do any work around to get the desired results. You need to be a little bit more aware than just token laws blessed by the high court.

Many thanks to JLS in NC for the snail mail donation! PayPal donations get a personal thank you, but this is how I save a stamp when being physically paid. And, guys, I can’t tell you how much all these donations mean to me. I take it personal ( in a good way ). However, as much as I love you, make sure not to send more than you are comfortable with. Some of these donations are overly generous. If you can afford it, great. But I would still be thrilled with a buck or five if that’s all the budget allows. Sorry, not trying to get all girly here. Until tomorrow, and thanks again.
You slacken ho’s that are waiting for your ‘08 refund advance check to send me money, don’t make me wait until after the presses are bombed in a false flag attack half way through the process and then make excuses. But really, if you like what you read, you know the deal. If too poor to pay for preps and support me at the same time, go Google shopping for your gear. Or shop through my Amazon links. If you want something back from a donation, buy some of my e-books. All at www.bisonpress.com

Why? - "Political power grows from the barrel of a gun" (Mao Tse Tung).
The Second Amendment is hunting licence for Politicians and they DON'T want it used.

Well James , there you go again....doesn't matter that the markets up, oil down, housing sales up.
Hey check this out- went to my sisters house for Easter and brought a gift. A HUMONGOUS can of pork & beans. Told them to start hoarding food, said the food riots are starting. the FEMA tents are going up outside of town. Buy ammo and move to the basement.I started to tell them about the black helicopters, but couldn't keep a straight face. Dang- I had them going . Well we all just laughed and laughed. Good times!
Boomer For The Future
Dakin bro, you mentioned the 2008 refund "advance". Your wrote on this "advance" (if I remember correctly) stating that the money will actually be taken out of your 2008 refund, and how it wasn't "really" a "bonus" check.
Have you realized that this is, in fact, wrong? The rebate we'll get this year will not affect our returns in 2008 at all. The wording, and particular the "advance" wording, threw many people off. Even CNN falsely reported that it'd be deducted from what we would normally get for a refund in 2008. It won't.
BTW: Boomer For The Future cracks me up!

Boomer for the Future has Hillarys dick in his mouth and Obamas up his ass.
Jim, good post. Don't worry about "Boomer of the Future" troll. He wouldn't be trying to annoy you unless he really likes you. I think he's funny, but not in the way he may think.
I think the larger issue is the survival of humanity itself. Survivalism at any level, from the Gun Nut angle to the Hippy Dippy level, might not work. The problem is just too big. I suppose the "Boomer of the Future" ultimate-believer-and-conformist-head-in-the sand type thinks that's the best way of survival and the good life. The card he's playing is that we will be able to keep the markets stable, our large world population fed, and have energy of one sort or another even if it's dirty coal to produce hydrogen to save the internal combustion--drive-train industries...(Electric cars were killed...a good idea but the car industry can't make money off of them).
For my money, I assume we have a serious population over-shoot and we are literally eating our life support system. We mistake our resources for income rather than for the historical savings they are. At the same time, we are trashing the swamp. Speaking of hippy stuff: here's a good one:

The simmering problems with Irish Kwame in Lotown and Brockos' mentor are just one more ingredient that could lead by end-year to some major domestic antics .... fuel, bank failures and layoffs and evictions, food priced outta sight, utility interruptions, re-emergence of the angry Black Puppet with the hand of ComIntern and Muzziedom stuck up its' ass, and all the routine ineptitude of Government F/S/L .... stir and simmer
cant find any cheap land, what do i do
The Supremes won't rule until June, but I think Jim's got it right. They'll pay a lot of lip service to the idea of an individual right but uphold the D.C. gun ban anyway. That's pretty much what the 5th Circuit did in the Emerson case.
RM, where does the "free money" the government is going to present to us all this year come from?
A) Additional governmental debt, paid for via future taxes.
B) Additional governmental debt, paid for by your children (with interest).
C) The printing press, paid for via increased inflation.
D) All of the above.
Answer: D, All of the above.
Dakin and CNN were correct, in a sense, and it is you, Rangerman, who are wrong.
And conservatives (The Cato Institute) to liberals (Dissident Voice) call it what it is, political pandering backed by taxation, debt, and inflation.
Back on Jim's post for the day concerning food and gun control, it reminds me of a tale I read a while back....
"The temperature had to just be miserable today for May 14, 2011, as here I was at a WalMart supercenter queued up in a long line with every other hungry soul in the county it seemed. The radio was blaring the news and some music from the Voice of America, now broadcast on the A.M. radio around the clock as the war in Pakistan and Iran had everyone’s full attention. The announcer came on at 11 a.m. sharp to give the local news and weather when I heard him say “it’s now 91 degrees here in Columbia and the South Carolina news will follow the VOA World Update at 11”. The news was disturbing as usual and the crowd was getting restless. The line had well over two thousand people in it and since the program was mandatory, once you were in line, you could not leave. As we stood there, I noticed the Home Guard patrolling the area, with machine guns mounted on Humvees in full view along with dogs and several large trucks filled with rifles and pistols. “What a program” I thought to myself. This was the most ingenious, yet devious thing I had ever seen and yet I was trapped into because I said “it could never happen here” over and over again to my friends and family.
After six hours in line, and thankfully Home Guard Boy Scouts acting as runners passing out cold bottles of water, it was my turn at the table. The HG officer motioned me behind the curtain and I placed the two guns I owned on the table. Curiously, he inspected the 9 mm pistol for quite a while before uttering the serial numbers to the other soldier at the table. She busily keyed in the serial numbers then uttered “clean” back to the officer. Then in rapid fire succession, she fired off the questions:
“Have you ever been convicted of a crime?”
“No”
“Did you purchase these firearms from an authorized dealer?”
“The shotgun yes, the pistol I purchased from a friend over twenty years ago.”
“Does this individual live in this area?”
“No, I bought it when I lived in Colorado in 1988.”
“Are you aware of this pistol ever being used in a crime prior to your purchase?”
“No”
“Do you still have any ammunition in your possession?”
I hesitated for a moment and said “I might have some 12 gauge shells lying around, but the paper didn’t say anything about turning in ammunition.”
“Please destroy the ammunition immediately or turn it into the nearest Police or Home Guard station. Thank you. Now please move to table 14 for fingerprinting, retina scan and DNA sampling. Here is your receipt for credits to be added to your food ration allowance after you are finished with processing.”
“Sheesh, they treat you like a criminal” I thought, but the turn in was mandatory as the Home Guard was running short of weapons and ammo with so much being dedicated to the troops overseas. At least my wife would be pleased, for once we would have fresh meat instead of frozen soy burgers or whatever that garbage was they passed off as meat in the grocery stores. For turning in two old guns, we got steaks, hamburgers, hams and more that would last for at least two months and I was thankful for that. My family had been losing weight on these caloric rations that you were limited to on your card and if I had to eat any more tofu, I thought I would vomit. “At least the guns were going for a good cause” I thought to myself, as terrorist infiltrations across our borders had increased and the number of attacks exceeded my worst nightmare. Maybe now the excuse that “Americans aren’t doing enough” can be put to sleep."
I was driving down the road in my neighborhood the other day.
The local radio station (Ministry of Truth) announced the weather as
sunny (it was heavy overcast all day) while I passed under all those
nice white survalance cameras (Big Brother is watching you). I started thinking to myself... War is Peace...Freedom is Slavery...
Ignorance is Strength...
fallout11, where did I say "free money". Your including the terms in quotes leads one to believe I used those terms. I didn't.
Further, you're confused about the discussion at hand. The answer to the question you posted is, of course, D: all of the above, but that's not what's being discussed.
CNN (and I thought Dakin) said this rebate would be deducted (my word) from your 2008 "refund" (assuming you'd receive a refund in 2008). So, by providing an example, let's say I'll get $2,000 back in taxes from the feds when I file my 2008 taxes. CNN originally said, in essence, that the $600+ I'd be getting as part of this "stimulus package" would then be taken out of the $2,000 I would have otherwise received.
THIS is the part that's not true. It won't affect 2008 returns in such a way.
Newsbusters.com (exposing liberal media bias) did a piece on this exact issue. Here is the quote:
Some time Friday, the cable network's website posted a piece entiitled "Treasury chief: Tax rebate checks to go out in May" which included the following (emphasis added, h/t NB reader Chandy):
"The package, which passed the Senate 81-16, will send rebate checks to 130 million Americans in amounts of $300 to $600 for people who have an income between $3,000 and $75,000, plus $300 per child. Couples earning up to $150,000 would get $1,200.
The checks are an advance on next year's refunds, and most, if not all of the money, will be deducted from taxpayers' refunds in 12 months' time."
If you click on the link to the article, the above-bolded sentence is nowhere to be found. Yet, it certainly did exist
Here is the link to the source: http://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2008/02/08/cnn-deletes-line-about-tax-rebates-being-advance
Many people were (are) confused on this. Of course it's our tax money (or borrowed money), but I'm not sure how you made a leap in the discussion to something other than what I was stating. Maybe I wasn't clear.
Ah, now I get what you are saying Rangerman, and yes, you're right in that regard. However, Jim was simply reporting based on the information available, which, as you point out, was incorrectly reported by numerous sources.
Still, in the end, it is still a case of robbing you to pay you. As Robert Heinlein was found of pointing out, "There is no free lunch".
