ECONOMIC BABBLE
I want to thank everybody in the comments section for trash talking Rawles for me. It saves me time and makes me look caring and compassionate that I'm not the one saying it. But seriously, let's not forget a few things. He may not be much of a writer, but he is a heck of an editor. Unlike my site, random splatterings of drivel you can't find, you can find information over at www.survivalblog.com with a simple search. I don't remember what I wrote about or when. Also, I am pretty much a one trick pony, subject wise. Over there you get a variety of experts on different subjects. I disagree with Rawles over his philosophy, I don't dislike him as a person. I just like to keep the record straight. I think I'm a better writer, and I think I show The One True Way, but you must out of fairness acknowledge the good points of others.
*
Now that I've proven what a swell guy I am, I can disappoint you with random ramblings of nothing very new or original. If you had tuned in for the last article at http://www.oftwominds.com/blog.html you could have read a great analogy on the economy and the Titanic sinking. He pointed out the four engines of our economy that are shutting down as the sea water level rises to extinguish them. They are debt, rising assets, government borrowing and rising employment. Obviously all are in big trouble. Debt worked wonders in the economy, from corporations borrowing to buy their competitors consumers at the cost of interest payments to home owners paying mortgage rates on credit card and auto loans. That was possible through rising assets. If the stock price of a company goes up, if the equity of a home rises, the collateral for cheap loans magically appears, no actual effort or value added needed. Government borrowing substituted for taxes, freeing up capital for businesses and consumer spending on consumption. And all of that was possible, more debt and more consumption, through rising employment. Who couldn't afford a NINJA home loan when both spouses worked?
*
Well, as Zimbabwe would have been happy to tell us if we had just asked, you can have a great party off of the historical economic capital you pillage but sooner or later that runs out and you need to start printing worthless money to keep things going. You would have thought that after almost a hundred years of pillaging the once gold backed dollar and collecting hundreds of billions of dollars a year in interest just from the Federal government alone, the bankers would have been content with their golden goose. But, no. They didn't want to wait for the next egg, they started thinking about the whole animal baked with a honey glaze. Okay, I can sort of understand. Honey glaze really does spruce up a meal. But eggs are for months and goose is for one meal. Any five year old listening to Aesop's fables can tell you not to eat the damn thing, honey glaze or not. Of course, to be fair, perhaps generations of blue blood inbreeding didn't make them all stupid and enough realize that with the global decrease in affordable oil the game was over and done anyway and they might as well be the last generation to live in splendor and style.
*
The debt engine is sort of hard to run during a global credit contraction. Banks are forced to restrict lending, so that ends company acquisitions and buying a way overpriced home. Or, I should say house. Home is were you live, a house is an instrument of debt. This means that suddenly, assets start to fall rather than rise. Stocks take a battering and homes turn upside down in value. As the economy starts contracting, there is no more money to park in government treasuries. As I write this I am filled with a perverted and twisted glee, recalling that the Chinese have pulled back their purchases of US government debt 95%!! I guess we did need them more than they needed us. With governments in trouble, all the tax money they threw into the economy starts to shrink, which stalls the other engines even more. And of course, unemployment is rising. Not only does this translate into less consumption, it also means less debt is complied or even paid back. Going from a two income household to one means, first, no more Starbucks, then no more second SUV at $600 a month payments, then no garage to park the remaining vehicle. All of these working together, fueled by debt which was fueled by cheap energy, grew our economy even though we produced nothing anyone wanted. Now, all those factors are working together against us. The perfect storm. It sure looks pretty, like a meteor storm right before a rock lands on your head at high velocity.

Your Danin-ness:
If Rawls isn't a good writer, then why does his book get four stars on Amazon? Why dose it have a ranking up on the Top 50? (Out of like 3 million titles)?
What laurels have been heaped on YOUR writing?
Mr. Rawles made me a millionare. I did it by following his financial advise. Purchasing out of state properties (cheap then) and now all paid for and about every three year I collect after taxes and expenses the full value of the invesment. I did purchase junk land. the only thing I have collected from that: is tax bills.
As longest the mesage gets out, the writting means nothing.
Another millionare.
Thanks to Mr. Rawles.

Rawles is OK .James is better. It's that simple.Rawles advice is good if you can afford it,I can't.I can afford to do what James sugggests.
James should write a book.He has talent and a good sense of humor. Rawles blog is sort of boring. Bison Survival Blog is entertaining. James doesn't censor comments,Rawles does. Yep,I like James better.
It is worse than all this: dumping used SUV's and second homes and other crap on the market means there is no need to build more since there is an oversupply.
The masses cannot afford to buy objects - and at the same time the merchants are awash in these objects that have already been made and are just sitting there.
There go the factories and everything else that depends upon them.
Anon 1:35 PM
I'm a millionaire too,I made my money in the big purple double sided dildo business.Maybe the two of us should get together,I'd like to show you something. Whatcha think ?

"the merchants are awash in these objects"
I don't see that as a problem, those objects were made in ching-ching land anyway. The factories that will be closing are in China.I hope the chinese end up eating all that plastic crap.
Lets see, you are a millionare in todays money, which means you are actually worth $46,000 in real money. you are kidding yourself. And Rawles will tell you so.
Rawles site has some value, His books are very good. ( sorry James).
However, James has the edge in that he has a leg up on living in 2012 America.
I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for another nor expect another to live for me.

Rawles has good information but much of what he proposes is just too expensive for the majority of people. So they visit his website, look at the advice to buy $ millions worth of retreat properties, bug out vehicles, guns, ammo, food, etc. etc. and realize that there is no way they can do it.
James is hole-in-the-wall survival. Much more affordable but much less attractive to the average person. They want the Rawles system of high tech survellance, food storage systems, etc. He relies on people wanting to live the same lifestyle after the crash as before to sell his ideas. Ultimately, if survival is the goal, I'm not sure which is more likely to survive. It really depends on the situation. I'm not convinced that Rawles would last any longer than James.

Good post James.I think you're better than Rawles too.We have the same warped sense of humor.
I won't shed any tears when our sheeple economy is history.Good riddance.Working your ass off so you can buy more crap is stupid. The elite profit from my labor and I ruin my health,no thanks.
The quiet before the storm.Hang on it's gonna be a rough ride for us bottom feeders. It will be one hell of a trip for TPTB.
We've been warned.
Hey guys don't worry.Obammy sees a glimmer of hope.Go back to sleep.
Obama is a calamity waiting to happen.
Yea, I love how Obama is trying to appear like he's on the side of the tea party people. In response to this the news is showing him saying he's opposed to high taxes and has changed the withholding structure to give you more $ back in your pocket each week (though you'll owe it all back at the end of the year). Whatta guy.

Who cares if the economy is FUBAR ? Let the motherfucker burn. The system is broke and can't be fixed. The rich will keep the economy limping along for a while longer.Maybe some people will wake up and start to prepare for the collapse. Most will do nothing.
We have the ultimate showman for president, All showw and all spend money he doesn't own, and doesn't know how to earn, just like nancy the commie.
we are fucked.
Old Fart
Obama is so much better than Bush. He's made a lot of good decisions. He really seems to know what he's doing. The country isn't the same as it was under Bush.I think we have a bright future. Man, he's so eloquent.
Oh shit ! I ran out of crack ! Gotta go find my dealer !
Didn't anyone here get the news? Cramer has called the bottom of the bear market. Invest now! Life is good.

Would you trust your survival to someone who is a comedian on every post??
If you do, youre a fool.
Do you trust someone that tells you, *live like a dog*. Would you??
Would you take your family under his advise??
Minster. * you have got a seroius problem.
That o.k. The less of you the more for me.
With all the doom and gloom coming out of NPR and you, I have decided to end it all. The world will cease to exist in 5 .. 4 .. 3 .. 2 ..

You toothless jizz guzzling crack whore.Trust ? I am responsible for my own survival.Go fuck yourself naked running backwards.
Rawles is just too yuppy for me. If I were some wealthy banker spending your money or loaning it to you at interest then it would be fine.
The blogs are a great source of ideas and a way to see how other people think about the shape of the world and the options for dealing with it. I read bison all the time. And sometimes it is just plain entertaining,, other times it may stray into an area I have not considered before. And there is the value, making some of us think. And laugh and cry.
No one comes to blogs to find someone to follow except a sheep. Accept that these folks take the time to share their ideas and use them as you will. But Rawles is not really my speed i stopped reading his site a while back and prefer the real people. Who are not millionaires.
I think what is really important, is to read all the blogs. That way you can get some good tips from Rawles, some here a good laugh and tips from Mayberry and so on. No one has said they have all the answers and no one way is right if it is not for you. Pick a little here a little there and apply it to YOUR own lifestyle. Learn from them all, try some of the ideas out. I had never heard of a Dakota fire before I went to survivaltopics.com. Tried it out one day, and what an amazing thing to do! And I have spent many years in the backcountry of Colorado and Kalyforneyea. Point is, no need to trash a blogger because you don't like his ideas or suggestions, take some of their knowledge and "wisdom" with you.

Obammy's favorite song :
Well we're Movin' on Up!
Movin' on Up!
To the east side!
Movin' on Up!
To a dee-luxe apartment in the sky,
We're movin' on up!
Movin' on Up!
To the east side!
Movin' on Up!
We've finally got a piece of the pie!
Fish don't fry in the kitchen,
Beans don't burn on the grill.
Took a whole lotta tryin'
Just to get up that hill.
Now we're up in the big leagues,
Gettin' our turn at bat!
As long as we live,
It's you and me, baby!
There ain't nothin' wrong with that!
We're Movin' on Up!
Movin' on Up!
To the east side!
Movin' on Up!
To a dee-luxe apartment in the sky!
We're Movin' on Up!
Movin' on Up!
To the east side!
Movin' on Up!
We've finally got a piece of the pie!
President Obama will make it a lot easier for most people to do their income taxes next year. No jobs, no income.
Why are the dildos purple? I would think a flesh colored one would be fine.

Another billionaire,
Thanks to James Wesley (comma) Rawles!
Hi,
In my point of view the polices of the new president of the America Mr Obama is very nice and goes to fever of his public of the country. He decided to decrease the ratio of income Tax,It is the good news for the businessman.
James runs a good blog which I find useful mainly because I cannot afford a "great" survival plan. Also, James does look at things from a different perspective than the one I have been brainwashed (er, I mean "educated") to believe. Rawle's blog, when he talks about something I can afford, is also great. However, given my skill sets and income, I think my survival will involve more luck rather than tactical military skills and will not involve any high tech or comfortable living styles.
What really surprises me is that in my own dimwitted way, I have come to realize that our economy really is collapsing and hence my whole way of life is disappeaing. I like Obama and think he's a very intelligent man, but I also think that there is not much he can do. He would better serve people like me by just telling us that things are going to Hell and to prepare for the worst. Instead, he's caught up in all his law school crap and thinks Washington can make a difference. He really doesn't understand how bad things are and doesn't have a good vision of how to fix it, probably because there may be no way to fix it.
James gave a neat web site to visit in regard to the economy being like the Titanic: www.oftwominds.com/blog.html

There is a huge gap between Dakins junk land and Rawles remote fortress.
Many of us fit comfortably between. I would go nuts trying to live someplace without electric, septic, ect. When the wife and I were makin the bucks we would travel about and point out trailers and shacks on small acreage and exclaim "cheap livin" with a tinge of envy. Even though we were living in the big house and driving the big car we were being eaten alive by taxes and being beaten down by the jobs.
We quit the jobs and bought our own version of "cheap livin". It's an old farmstead on 8 acres with a shack thats had more facelifts than Polosi. We can get by on $50 a month for utitlites if we need to.
We heat with wood and tapped a spring for water. Our current life style could easily be met with two minimum wage jobs and in a stretch with one. If you live in a no tax state you can make $20,000 a year with less than $200 tax liability.
It makes all the difference in the world when you get to keep all your income.
If you are going to garden, get at it now. I am on my 5th year and just starting to find out how to deal with the curves that are tossed at you every year. Wet, dry, frost, bugs, critters, hail, soil, ect. Each spot will let somethings grow but not others.
Try to find two or three ways to do everything you need to get done from highest tech to lowest. The highest tech will be most productive and lowest will keep you going.
Every person does not have to do everything well. If you do chickens or garden or firewood well, stick with that and barter. I can't get beans or peas to grow, but onions are easy. Down the road they have plenty of beans but can't grow onions.
I think Dakins has the best sense of humor among the group. These are the places I look to keep informed.
Urbansurvival, Mike Folkerth, the American energy crisis, cryptogon, oftwominds, the tree of liberty.
These guys are not funny, but they are very very smart.

Sorry about the wife. Wish you were closer. I would like to hang with you.
