organic radishes and M-16's

ORGANIC RADISHES AND M-16’S

I previously reviewed The Ecotechnic Future , which has a lot to recommend for it. Alas, our buddy Greer is a bit down on survivalists. I don’t understand why, except perhaps he realizes that we will enslave him on his organic radish farm and when he is not tilling the soil we will use him for our entertainment in gladiator events. Okay, I’m kind of kidding. He accuses survivalists of one way thinking, just busier than a herd of one legged ass kickers stockpiling ammunition and MRE’s. This really just underlines his shallow understanding of our bylaws and SOP’s, but he also has a point in that we are overly dependant on consumerism. We mock mall shoppers, but we are little better with our mail order catalogs from Cheaper Than Dirt.

*

Regardless, neither approach is correct. He only envisions a slow collapse with farmers being embraced as the new saviors and survivalists only want to shoot everyone that helped screw up society in the first place ( you realize that while politicians and lawyers and bankers stripped the earth to remain rich, we don’t help much in our buying frenzy ). I’m on the survivalist side, no question. If we are going to all end up in the stew pot, the soil infertile and incapable of feeding but 1% of our current population, I would rather go down fighting and take a few scumbags with me. It would accomplish as little as my writing does, but it would feel just as good. Both camps need each other. The tree huggers need to arm themselves ( to save the trees from harm if not themselves ) and the survivalists need to seriously invest in permaculture. Which is no more expensive than regular gardening, it just takes a different approach. Food will be the weapon against us, not just napalm.

Finally you have a post that doesn't make me feel guilty for being an old fart on social security.

I can still do a little gardening...and my shotgun doesn't require perfect eyesight to be effective against looter's, animal or human!

Of course, I'll be glad to share what I grow with the others willing to lend a hand growing it!

Good post!

Bastard!

Did I miss the explanation for a Saturday post? I know you are in semi-retirement, but I would think that means less all the way around. Not more... Rock on!

I've got one for the aspiring feudalist.
Stockpile insulin and/or ability to manufacture the same. Then all the useful diabetics (and I know a few) belong to you.

Take warning about your own personal corn supply. Much of it could be bad for your Internal Organs. This article is from the International Journal of Biological Sciences:

http://www.biolsci.org/v05p0706.htm

The basic gist of the article is that Monsanto has genetically engineered corn types with massive amounts of herbicide and insecticide inside the corn kernels which basically destroys your liver. I guess the idea is to produce corn fit for motor fuel rather than for human consumption. I suppose it's great for producing ethanol corn without all the extra energy inputs to manufacture, distribute, and spread the herbicides and insecticides on the plants.

All this info makes me want to store wheat rather than corn. At least Monsanto has not fooled aound with wheat, yet.
