I’m not actually leaving. I’m still going to post every day. But I desperately need to take a break and so will be writing a lot less. I threatened that before and went from a thousand words a day plus down to about seven or eight hundred. It wasn’t enough. I still want to write because I enjoy it, but I feel like I’m starting to recycle too much. Perhaps it’s my imagination but I feel like other than a few hard core folks such as Vlad ( I love you man ) my minions lose interest and are replaced. Then the current crop loses interest and fades away. I’m spinning my wheels. Granted, the basic message can only be stretched out so far. But if I go down to once a week you might lose interest anyway. So let’s see if reducing things to a hundred or two hundred words recharges my batteries, reduces my stress, makes me less cantankerous. And, yes, some days you just might get nothing more than a link. Others, a full thousand word article. Let’s see how it unfolds.

I’ve been saying the same about grain, but because of potential crop shortages. But don’t buy a grain grinder

All Minion alert; SEND CASH!!
But Jim; please note that the system is making me re reg if I want to comment. Maybe we t'aint leaving.
Bison,
If you're interested, I can pick up the slack. I can become Bison .75 -- has a nice ring to it. If your doom porners can't get enough on your site, let them come over to mine: www.creampuffdiaries.blogspot.com.
Think of it myself, I'm pretty stressed out getting jerked around at my job working 10 hrs one week and 35 the next. Corporate America really has us by the cajones!!
I had to creat a Google account to respond. That's part of why most people don't respond to ya - no anonymous - its not that I want to choose anonymous, I simply didn't want to make yet another email account.
That said, I read you daily.
I've taken some of your advice, thought about some, and even (gasp!) not done some of what you say.
Enjoy the break. Rest, relax and come back swingin' at your loyal minions. Some of us might even pay ya.
There's a guy TED BUTLER that's been claiming that the silver market is being fixed by insiders and their short positions ( they may have, in fact, been the Hunt's brothers downfall decades ago). And claims that silver is gonna skyrocket to hundreds of dollars an ounce. He's been predicting it in his monthly sales sheet for years and years.
I bought some silver dollars as a little squirt in the 60's and 70's at an average of $2-$4 each. If you do the math it works out to about a 4% annual return. Nothing shabby in the real world, certainly better than stocks or real estate.
But your not going to turn $100 into $5,000 in six months, you can't even do that in the meth or crack business....
Tiring of silver coins, i got a small lot of 30 sterling silver chains a few years ago. No one will pay money for one, end up giving them as presents. Actually, 'jewelry parties' still are a happening thing as people scrap their 'spare' jewelry for quick cash at about 60% of spot.
But, if every american bought 3 ounces of silver, there would be a shortage. Of course, that's a BILLION ounces, which is about what the Obamma-Surge will cost for the next month and what the Goldman-Sack Banksters spent on champange and caviar on New Years.
How about posting links and brief commentary on current events. My favorite part of Rawles site is his links to articles about the economy.
Don't think we have gone away... read you daily... sometimes I even check on the weekends in case you have slipped something in!
Some cannot afford to buy a $30 corn mill.
http://www.bisonpress.com/amazonproducts.html
No problemo. Have the wife plant, tend and harvest the corn after it dries in the field. She can tie the sacks of corn to her bicycle and push it the seven miles to my place. She probably will not have to wait long to use one of my three corn mills or Country Living Mill. I sincerely want to help, I will keep only 50% of the dried whole corn. What are friends for?
Just because I don't comment doesn't mean that I'm not reading you everyday.
You're a daily read my friend...and sometimes more than that if I think I need to dig through the posts from further back. But take a rest if you must...we all do.
Oh no! I just found you a few days ago and now you are going to slow down ......just my luck :-( I was just telling some friends of mine about your blog and sending out a link to it. But hey, I understand how it is. Having closed my blog completely on another forum. Sometimes you feel no one is listening. It gets discouraging.
Hang in there Jim. There is nobody in the prepper blogosphere that can deliver a daily dose of reality, served with a side order of cutting wit, like you. What other blogger could accuse their daily readers of getting "hard nipples" in anticipation of another post and get away with it? I know not one. Only you Lord Bison. Look for a snail mail donation.
oldsubotai, what is with the insults to the blog host?? Jim allows a free comment board where minions can vent their frustrations in a spirit of good natured sarcasm, but you, being a cripple, go and splash him with the contents of your stinky catheter bag. Perhaps your wife needs to put a lock on the liquor cabinet after 7 PM.
Blog on Lord Bison.
Bastard!
You're going to hibernate now that I'm finally on board with a wheat grinder and a bag of berries? Damn you! Sorry. Anyway, I found a sweet little Family Grain Mill. Lady had it on Craigslist for $40. Awesome! I waited forever to find a deal on one. Now if only oil would go away :-)
Oh Great Bison!
say the word and I will read your wisdom everyday and never make a comment.
I don't want to hurt any minion feelings.
Ah Jim, I'm a long time reader and first time commenter. I consider myself a loyal minion of the Great Bison! I truly believe your blog has great value, love your sacastic wit and doomer outlook, and yes my nipples get hard (ok not really). the fact that you are "living it" gives you serious cred and respect. Take all the time you need, we will still be here!! BTW I see today Rawles did an article on your philosophy of milsurp bolt actions as viable MBR's!! Love your work!
On Monday you announced you would be posting seven days a week and now you're going to cut back to a couple hundred words a day. This week has been an emotional rollercoaster, good thing I love abuse.
I know you love Vlad more than you love me,I understand.I'm still jealous, but I can handle it.I love being abused.
Go ahead and take a break,I'll survive somehow.Don't worry about it.I love the abuse.
If I can't handle a bit of abuse back from my minions, I have no business using sarcasm and dark humor. That said, yes, a few scathing comments were a bit spot on. Something about crowing about riding my bike. This is not my first near burnout. It was the first time I woke up the next morning still determined to quit. Luckily by the time I got to work I had chilled out a bit. But I did ask myself, am I becomming an unsufferable ass? I need to slow down a bit for my sake and yours. I will be back to normal word count soon, I can't see much value in such low volume. Others do the concise reporting better, I'm in my niche as long winded gadfly. Like Limbaugh, but I'm logical. Biguns, I love you too. Sorry for the roller coaster. At least I'm sticking with the new seven day a week schedule, even if they will be round file articles. Hang in with me for a few weeks, everyone.
Was it my imagination or did you not just write recently that you were going to be posting more since the sun was shining? You need a staff, wait what is that wife of yours doing to earn her keep. The greats always had help, Rush and Snerdly, Howard Stern and Robin, Tyson and that crazy fuck with the white hair. Batman and his butler guy. In other-wards you need a sidekick, a research arm if you will.
Better yet lets move it up to defcon 1. Quit that stinking job move out to the paid for land and lets get this show started. You will still have to come in to town to post but don't be tempted to indulge in the other aspects of working civilization. It will be you the wife and nature baby! At least for a week at which point the wife will bail again and then it will be just you and nature.
That will be some good reading.
I will be sticking around. And I DO own a grinder.
As some mentioned the market for silver is being fixed...so is the rest of the market. there were some very strange events that occurred in the trading world this week.
http://seekingalpha.com/article/182579-are-we-trading-in-a-rigged-casino
That said, silver won't go too crazy yet due to industrial uses not just monetary exchange value. Though it has climbed nicely in the last few months.
As to buying silver vs gold...Silver is definately a better choice. Easier to negotiate with and it's price hasn't reached ridiculous levels (yet).
Love your writings, but I understand the time thing.
Hey Jim,
I check this blog out every month or so and end up spending considerable time here. You have offered some very good info but I just can't seem to get off the crapper to do anything yet. My fault but it is nice to hear such a politically correct person as you RANT and I love it! Hang in there guy.
The silver debate will continue until the FRN'S are absolutely useless. I wish I could have bought a silver dime for a dime in the Hunt Days but .... and here we go again. Use silver to preserve wealth and if you make a little fine. You'll love it more than a worthless IRA or 401K. You just might not get to experience that but knowing that you actually had some real money may effect some tranquility.
Bill
