I imagine that you’ve noticed a new trend here. Well, besides the fact that the comments section is a bit skimpy after I hacked off those on Social Security yet once again. I don’t know what they are complaining about as they will suck up the last of the government cheese and leave the younger generations still paying in without any return whatsoever. Why do we also have to also kiss their ass and tell them it’s okay? It isn’t enough they are getting our 15%? Anyway, no, that’s not what I’m talking about. Economics and politics gets only passing mention anymore. There is little to discuss. Economics will follow oil decline. Printing money ( or, the same thing, buying our own debt ) only accelerates it. And politics is nothing more than window dressing to disguise the fact that the central bank is screwing us over. Why get all bent out of shape when both parties serve the same master? We will have the last laugh as money is worthless, even over in China, when the oil runs out. Controlling the money made them fabulously rich for centuries, but you need resources to make the money work. You can bury oil into the ground again to grow crops but you can’t do much with paper currency except use it as mulch ( which will eventually work as fertilizer but then we get into the whole energy to print deal ).

So, without the old money or political screw job articles as stand by, I am left with a lot less options. Luckily, Creekmore ( http://www.thesurvivalistblog.net/ ) acted as my underpaid and unappreciated laborer, polled his readers and found that they all wanted off grid articles. I quickly seized on this information and stole it and have been regurgitating stale information about the Compound ever since. He most likely won’t thank me, but he should. A valuable life lesson in how evil bike riding mutant zombies will steal anything of value from you. You’re welcome, dude. Also, a valuable lesson to my minions on how to take a three sentence idea and turn it into a seven hundred word essay. I’m a professional so please don’t try this at home.
*
The typical survivalist, having swallowed the Yuppie School Of Surviving The Apocalypse By Consuming High Priced Worthless Crap line hook and sinker is busy paying thirty bucks a foot for a well, installing a pump, powering it by solar panels, storing it into a large tank and otherwise happily preserving his standard upper middle class lifestyle. The Redneck Survivalist will grab a few gallon containers and walk down to the creek and fill them up and conserve his water carefully to cut down on the number of trips. Cost comparison, ten thousand bucks for one and ten bucks for the other. You can easily live on two to three gallons of water a day. One gallon for drinking, a half gallon for washing yourself. And very little for cleaning dishes. I used to tell you to use a garden sprayer for a shower, but I get better results with a cleaned and empty bleach bottle with three or four holes in the cap ( if you nail them in you split the top, just work in a screw and withdraw ). The sprayer had too fine of a mist for winter use, making it far too cold.
*
I also am getting a lot more crap quality wise in plastic devices. I think this followed the $150 oil spike where a lot of manufactures were trying to save money. I won’t buy anymore sprayers after the last batch failed quickly. The same with the hand held sprayer ( the kind such as a Windex window cleaner comes in ) I was using to rinse the dishes. A buck per at Wally World, they used to last months and months. Now they don’t last but days. And it wasn’t just me and Wally, I’ve noticed the same with the ones at work bought at janitorial supply places. Now I just use an old bleach bottle for the dishes also. To clean yourself with a half gallon, wet sparingly. Wet the soap and lather from the neck down. Then wet and lather your head. Rinse head ( some water running down helps loosen up the soap on the torso ). Then rinse everything else. I usually have enough left over from the half gallon to pour down my back ( with the cap off ) to get any spot I might have missed. This works for me with a crew cut. Heavy hair, just alternate one day body with one day hair. You won’t be gross unless you dig ditches. You might have to squeeze the bottle occasional when the water won’t trickle out on its own, but try not to do that often as it will deplete your water too quick. I usually just shake the bottle overhead to get the flow again. It takes practice not to hit your head while your eyes are closed with soap running into them doing that.
*
For washing dishes, it is important to not let them sit. Something comes out of the pot, put water in it and heat immediately. Don’t fill it all the way up, just a bit in the bottom. Heat, then take a rigid bottle brush ( not a sponge type but a plastic bristle one ) and wet and scour the sides of the pot to get the food off the sides. That should only account for a few cups. For the plates and silverware, put a cup of water in the bottom of your scoured but not yet soaped pot and a drop of dish soap ( if you threw away gross water from chili or cheese or whatever residue, throw the water away and splash a tiny bit more in the pot ). Use the bottle brush to scrub the pot, plates and silver once you’ve eaten. You need to keep dipping the brush into the water. The sponge, even a sponge with green scrubbing backing, holds the water and soap easier but I find it doesn’t clean as well, getting the food off. Hence, the need for the bottle brush. Rinse with the bleach bottle. Easy, and only a few cups total are needed. A little practice and you will be using almost no water for showering or dishes.

Social Security again?
IT'S THE GOVERNMENT STUPID!!!!
Berating the old folks again, Jim? You are a brave soul and that's why we love you. Now that the Boomers are starting to collect S.S. they are starting to talk smack too. Some of my Boomer relatives thought it funny to chide me (I'm a Gen Xer like you) about making sure we keep S.S. solvent for them. I told them that since they aborted 50 million of us, we would just euthanize an equal number of them and call it "Choice - Our Choice" to solve the budgetary dilemma. The f*#kers have no sense of humor.
Bison,
I'm reading Arsenal of Democracy: The Politcs of National Security--From World War II To The War on Terrorism. I'm also going to review it(as soon as I read the 500 page behemoth) on my website if you or your loyal minions are interested in reading the review or quite possibly buying it(hint, hint). It basically talks about how the Progressive and Internationalist movements have hijacked government power(on all levels) for the benefit of those in government in industry. I'll fill you in on the rest when you read my review. It's scaring the crap out of me. Just another reason to follow your lead and get my own piece of junk land before that becomes illegal.
Well SS is another ploy to force subornation, It makes need to serial number everyone. It forces indebtedness to the Government, Then creates a subservient culture, Needing the government to survive vicariously through, the same power that enslaved them. Creating masters of what once were servants.
The tax for SS is 6 1/4 % of gross, your employer matches this to total 13% employer amount does not appear on your check, so most employees are not aware of the additional payments, although their work produced this money.
People need a collective movement to move away from ALL government, programs and schemes. People need to adopt a mind set of sovereign individuals accepting responsibility to succeed or fail pursuant to laws of nature. Survival by law of nature is only afforded to those that can. Rather government services violate natural law, by allowing the weak to flourish by benefit of extorting the strong.
You will never produce usable stock by encouraging the poor stock to breed, and castrating the the preferred stock for short term usage.
Its no wonder, the generations as a whole, become more inept with each succession of new.
(present company excluded, I think)
Jim, I got the whole blog mirrored on one CD, where do ya want it sent. 563 and some megabytes.
Mahtomedi, very nice. No, no sense of humor. If the WWII generation was "The Greatest Generation," (and it ain't,) then the Boomers are "The Most Selfish Generation." They proved it by their genocide.
Buck Sexton, excellent points.
There is the option to opt out - but you must sign a small library of paperwork & agree that you will never try to draw on the system. Once out never back in is the scare tactic. Learned that from a preacher's wife whose dh had freed himself before they ever met. He doesn't pay into the system - don't know about his employers though.
The best hard times survival training are the back-packers and "TENT" campers, where they don't have running water or electric. They know how to be frugal with water, lanterns and flashlights, how to make a fire and cook food, make coffee and hot water from it.
poor Jimbo, just when he reaches retirement and qualifies for social insecurity, the evil one is going to get it all. provided Obama and the rascals haven't spent anything left on champagne, caviar and nose candy.
should be interesting when "the greatest generation" finds out that they sucked the world dry, and that there's nobody to pay for their pills, the doctors won't see them, and their kids will throw them out on the street to die. har har har, a fitting end for a bunch of fat boring fucks...
gotta, love american society and it's: "what's in it for me" mentality. can they honestly blame the collapse of the wall street casino economy, the foulish mismanagement of the taxpayers purse on those "lazy welfare cheats"...yeap, blame the victims for the plutocrats actions.
Buck talks about 'social darwinism' and in the same breathe talks about a 'collective movement' to do it 'his way'. a bit of a contradiction. Are you talking, totalitarianism, fascism or freedom.
By the way, people, your 'genes' are organic and an ongoing process and not a machine or a computer. that is your DNA regulates your cells on a day to day basis.
You can be born with alpha genes, but eat donuts, white flour, trans fats (formerly margarine and hydrogenated vegtable oils- remember how 'safe and healthy' those things use to be for you ?) drink alcohol (the health cocktail of imbeciles and intellectuals), but produce damaged spawn, ritalin heads, and precious little fatties.
you can stop abusing yourself with the overpriced big corp processed convenience foods and you will start to enjoy better health...
Stephanie in AR,
That's not at all what the SS website says.

Q: "Can I opt out of Social Security?"
A: "No. Social Security coverage is mandatory."
If you know a loophole, please let us in on it.
You can opt-out of Social Security by joining an Amish sect. Put up some links for faux beards Jim;).
Yukon Mike is right. The best training is hardcore "doing it". Whatever critisism Jim may get, he is living what he preaches. I have the highest respect for him because of that, but in the mean time I'm keeping my well pump running at all costs 'til the four hole bleach jug is absolutely required.
Good comment board today. Gotta get some more Baby Boomers to weigh-in though. Tell us some more about how it was so righteous of you to throw a canoe on top of your 5 mpg station wagon and then drive 600 miles round trip to spend 72 hours in a wilderness area for your own personal self-fulfillment, but now you have "seen the light" and need to warn the rest of us against "wasteful use of fossil fuels". I don't like partisan hacks from the Left or the Right, but Ann Coulter was right when she called the Baby Boomers "the Worst Generation".
Jim, what about a (faux) Amish Elko sect?? Think of the (tax-evading) possibilities!!
Buzz- A collective movement for sovereign people is not a contradiction.
You see my suggestion for a movement is voluntary, in form, for the desire of sovereignty, call it freedom if you like.
Our participation in government tax for crack-whores is not voluntary.
I did not say "my way". My suggestion, yes.
Bottom line its not ok for the government to steal from me, to give to another.
People can forge alliances to achieve a goal, this does not negate their birth right to sovereignty.
Our government pays people to be "parents" living of the gov. is all they know.....Guess what their kid will know when it grows up.
opt-out
If you have your own corporation, and your income is from dividends:you dont have to pay SS tax.
If you pay-yourself by payroll, then you have to pay SS.
awwww! does the Bison miss oldsubotai?
It's not your view of SSA benefits that pissed me off. It's the idea that ALL benefits are welfare. There is such a thing as EARNED BENEFITS! If you spend 20+ years of your life in the military you EARN a retirement check. If you get a traumatic brain injury in Iraq you have EARNED the disability check they send you. My injuries from military service are rated at 100%. I have had to give up a lot of things in my life that were important to me and I did so without complaint. I have given this country everything but my life and I EARNED my disability retirement check.
Everyone can have their opinion about the government.that's called free speech. I didn't get disabled defending my government I got disabled defending my country. Climb down off your " I ride my bike to work high horse" and quit being so smug. Not everyone who reads your views are boot licking minions. Some of us have a brain just like you.
@Buz
"By the way, people, your 'genes' are organic and an ongoing process and not a machine or a computer. that is your DNA regulates your cells on a day to day basis."
You make a good point, A person adapts that's why the living evolves.
Otherwise we would be a tape recording.
Now understand this; If the geldings do the work their experiences are never adapted,a gelding does not breed. If the breeding stock is never exposed two the required work for a species,a DNA correction will never occur; to adapt to working conditions required for the species.
"Climb down off your " I ride my bike to work high horse" and quit being so smug."
Here is a quote worth keeping. I'm gona send this to JWR for his quote of the day.
Funny stuff!
oldsubotai is right, but the younger generation is so under distress they will not be likely to empathize with him. A country that doesn't take of disabled Vets isn't worth spit, but that's where were headed.
For the record, I agree with both of you. To prove it I did a post saying the same thing last week "random ramble" was the title.
My issue is with entitlement programs. The costs to run them is the majority of their budget. The thing is, now we need to end all programs. that way we can relieve the tax burden and make people accountable for themselves and only burden them with themselves. At present one has a burden of their own self and required government charity to all who qualify.
Government needs to change direction rely on their ventures to gain profit.
Today if you want elected to office you just have to convince the masses you will give them free stuff.
However, the charity program costs a dwarfed by the costs of bail-outs, cash for guzzlers, and all the big business cash infusions.
I missed the tin cup article.
Most of us only read it because its required reading for the members of the "peoples Resistance Movement" we also work for the "save the wails" to stay sharp with picketing, in the lows of the resistance.
oldsutai
I'm with you. We older guys stuck it to the next several generations. I'm sorry for this.
But here's the deal. Before you younger guys finish me off, ask me if I learned anything so you don't repeat the same mistakes.
Unless that is that you are so pissed off that you don't care. In that case,
God help ya. And after that, please look your children in the eye and explain to them why you just had to dust all the old people. They'll understand, as long as you feed them the propaganda that gets fed to all generations. "It was for the good of the country honey, now just sleep tight".
This does not excuse what I have done to the generations that follow. Just know this, I don't have the same knee jerk reactions that I had when I was younger. I would rather feed you than kill you.
Sound like some leftwing nut was let out of his cage to surf the survival blogs?
Well okay, but it's a blog and I posted to it.
Jim, it's your blog, you decide whether to post this or not.
Just trying to make it through the mess to come.
Farmer
I think I'll split the difference between the Yuppies and Jim and use one of those solar showers (at least until it falls apart) You can save water by standing in your laundry tub while showering and using your shower water for wash water.
Got to give props to Jim though, showering with an old bleach bottle is hardcore.
As for SS, I take a deep breath and let that stuff go. If it's there for me when I'm old cool, if not there's not a lot I can do about it one way or the other. I've got too many other things to worry about to have stuff like SS on my mind.
I probably ought to go order my solar shower now, before congress passes a solar shower tax.
Top stuff, Jim! The first paragraph very succinctly summed up our situation. I don't think it's too paranoid to assert that any meaningful reform is impossible until a disaster strikes.
Social Security? Perhaps people are so touchy because it's their money. In Germany, the system was begun as a "generational contract", that the employed are paying the benefits of the oldies and it's firmly understood that there will be less in the pot, later.
Guns and politics are fun but I'm enjoying very much your recent posts about things like: getting rid of your turds and washing yourself. I think your strengths are: your unusual sense of humor and that you are actually living the frugal lifestyle.
Keep up the good work!
re Mr Dakins
Life at this point is like being on the Love Boat. Everything we desire is at hand. Phone in a CC order and UPS delivers in a day or three. Medical aid is minutes away. Amazing variety of food is at the corner grocery. We have good highways, running water, electric power etc.
Mr Dakins is the Life Boat Captain. He explains how to cope after the Love Boat sinks and
we are in a life boat drift on a sea of shit.
Amen Vlad.
I talked about social security one time. Had a guy who I though was a like minded fellow blogger show his true colors as a hypocritical parasite. Also the kind who like to talk tough over the net which everyone knows is the hobby of the worlds actual toughest people.
Also a 50 year old mild mannered fellow told him to bugger off and challenged said parasite to a fist fight.
I do not have anything against people who are on SS. However I do have an issue with ones who talk about being pro liberty and anti big government, except those checks every month, which they deserve for working so hard.
OldS- believe it or not, I hear you about military disability. I admit tht is a grey area for me and requires more thought. No matter how noble and needed a service, military, cop, fireman, there does come a point where their compensation becomes too high of a burden on the economy. Ask California. Anyway, I have no fears of things NOT going to crap. Living poor now is training and practice and will be needed soon. Unless the UFO's give Obammy room temp. fusion plans. Good to have you back, if you are staying.
Oh, and let me stir the pot further. Does anyone know if the wounded vets of The War Of Northern Aggression got disability payments? Don't think I'm uncaring about a vet dragging his legless torso behind him with a tin cup full of pencils. I'm asking if it was historically the norm to provide disability or if it is another aspect of our current system. I'm not saying "welfare state", I'm saying"surplus wealth from oil state" to keep those flared tempers down. Yes, I know it is all about the central bankers buying off the mobs. But that is a subject for another day. Peace, my minions.
I have been catching the news while in CA. The budget in LA for pension plans is 25% of the entire tax budget, 11% for prisons 7% for schools. Strong union pressure gives their Teachers, cops, fire, all, state/gvt. workers retirement after 32 years with 90% pay, plus all the medical/dental benefits.(this is true in most states)
AND, and,not only do they get 90% of original pay plus cost of living increase. They also get the full SS retirement pay. So after retirement their income actually goes up, some times several thousand per month.
So if your entitled to SS because you paid it and worked, the municipal worker does to! Even though its a wind fall of cash for them........ Right?
How come I gotta re register every freakin time I want to comment here?
Biguns got it in one.
Folks: Stop blaming generations young and old for stupid stuff. Focus on hating the handmaiden of satan and the reptaloid overlords.
Farmer gets to go to the front of the line for showers cause he feels guilty.
wet soap rag pint to a qt. of water in basin [on stove if ya want it warmer] like somebody said """WHAT"""" da freak we diddlin with this for? Same for "washing dishes"... feminine mind control item; got a travel cup in the car tain't been "washed" for years. Tain't killed me yet.
Ice floes for the toothless old folks; coathangers and magic potions to limit the young---- just like it's been since forever.
Individuals do not evolve; species do. The next generation does not inherit acquired chacteristics. Stop sleeping in class.
durn; my first draft was more amusing.
Let me also point out: A municipal worker, even the ones behind a desk, retire with better benefits and pay than our wounded Vets.
Is that fair? the Vet lost limbs, or skill of function, or worse. The municipal workers injuries were obesity, by on going combat with coworkers over the donuts box, and disputes over who's turn it is to make coffee. And they get rewarded much better than our soldiers?
In the history of pension plans some organizations --"unions" and professional organizations opted out at the beggining of SS. Which was permitted at the time. They have been on SS's "get in with the herd" list ever since and many actively fight to stay out. As far as teachers "unions" I don't know how many have managed to survive.
Might be a majority; might not Buck
I have relatives that are retired police and fire. They get both pension and SS.
The thing is the unions that want out to avoid paying, want their retired to continue getting SS and the working portion to stop paying-in, and still allow them some SS for the time they did pay.
Its a tug-a-war, But currently we have municipal workers getting both pension and SS. across the country.
Not only that but the feds have had to bail out the pension plans, So we get to buy their retirement twice. No wait that's 3 times if you count SS.
and to qualify for SS they have to meet the requirements on qts just like others.
Paid work outside the "profession" we get the same am't slotted out to the .gov but recieve reduced benefits because of the alternate retirement plan. To add to that, my wife's benefits are reduced buck for buck for what she might draw from my teachers retirement bene plan.
I've paid into SS since I was 12 as did my employers outside that "profession"
FAIR is where ya go ta sell your pig...but if you gave into the well during your travels why shouldn't you draw? and I'm not goin to feel guilty about it. If there is anything left when I can't hold onto a job anymore.
Can't reason folks outta what they don't reason into.
"Individuals do not evolve; species do. The next generation does not inherit acquired chacteristics. Stop sleeping in class."
You are correct. I didn't say "next generation." during the DNA discussion.
But people do Evolve to conditions, that's a fact.
However it is logical to wager, the next generation would have to change from the previous, even slightly. otherwise their would be no significant change over large periods of time.
I think anyone that can get SS would be unwise not to take it. But it is still a problem. And if you dont take it someone else will.
Anytime a government administers a program, they do not apply reason, there decisions are made by rules. The rules can and are blind to logistics.
Let underline that I did say:"The bailouts and pay-off dwarf the expense for things like SS and welfare". or some thing like that. So ya there are bigger fish to fry.
I'm not saying one is not entitled to things like SS. They did pay and are entitled to their money.
BUT BUT BUT, My point is a person should never have been forced to pay-it in, the first place!!!!!
If one is left to their own choices, one can plan their own future better than a bureaucrat can!
I have to go. I'm late for a save the whales rally!
Don't think of it just as saving whales; think of it as saving your own a--. An old saw used by senile droll boring science teachers is how many rivets can you allow to fall off the plane before the plane falls out of the sky. So save me a used T-shirt painted with bio degradable dyes.
Mutations first and always; Then they are neutral, favorable to reproductive survival or detrimental. That's what can be/gets passed on.
Lord Jim's mighty quadricepts do not pass to his progeny. Individuals DO NOT evolve in the genetic biological sense.
.Gov is the parasitic worm in your bowel. It fills the power void and will defend it's host[s]against other similar parasitic powers.
I yeild the floor to Bigunsfan.
Sorry bigunsfan;
BUT But but-- Buck; you threw the folks that tried to stay clear of the ss system up as systematic examples of whatever you want to call your position. Back in the day SOME folks said; Dat's a durn PONZI scheme if I ever saw it; let's try to avoid it.
But we gotta swim in [the leech infested] pond we're in. Take a paycheck; pay the caller setting the dance.
There Lord B; is that enough audience participation.
I feel the urge to buy something on amazon does Mayberry have a link???
Yield to Biguns..... i before e cept
I say increase the payments to those on Social Security. Keep them fat and plump for the day when the rest of us will have to eat them to survive.
That is our social security!
Ok that's not fair! You cant talk about me when I leave to "save the whales"
Besides, but, but, but. I think I have made my position clear.
I know "fair" is where you sell a pig! You can also un load an ass there too!
Oy, Oldsubotai,
Who'd you protect "your country" from? Nobody was attacking the mainland in the past 180 years. At least, not my geographical area.
GEOFF
I don't discuss my personal history with someone who hides their profile.
You don't think this country has enemies? Where have you been?
Oldsubotai, what would you like to know about me? What would you expect to see on my profile?
I don't have any personal enemies overseas. Anyone who does want to kill me doesn't want to do it because he knows me. He does it because he thinks I am represented by a government that has murderous policies. He can kill me if it makes him feel better. This world isn't my ultimate home. Some things are worse than death. And so, I'd rather get turned into hamburger by a terrorist than be nanny-stated and code-oranged to death. Or be nonsensed to death by all the people claiming they've protected me and my neighbors.
It's not as though there's anything a grunt can do to prevent 'em from killing people anyway. Just like they didn't prevent 'em nine years ago.
Just the facts.
You can find meaning in your injuries, sir. God will use them for good if you let him. But you don't need to act as though your wounds were acquired in the course of nobly protecting anyone in America besides politicians and weapons manufacturers. It would be dishonest. That's the feel-good emotional line you've been fed. Don't buy into it.
Hey Jim,
My view on Peak oil is that there's plenty for a price but that the PTB want to limit it to the few that are willing to pay the most for it. Is there enough for all the peoples of the world? Probably not.
The real answer is that unlimited pollution free energy would cause the PTB to lose a control mechanism. It would be like giving up their controlled media and central banks. Technology of the internal combustion engine has made lackluster gains in efficiency since it's inception by design.
There is an unlimited energy source/device that will free us from them that lies to be discovered/revealed but I seriously doubt we'll see it. The best scenario would be that it is divulged in a quantity that is hard to suppress.
Jim, what would you do with unlimited power at your place?
Bill
Found a way for brushing teeth that requires only 2 Tablespoons of water. Put 5-10cc (about 1 tsp.) Listerine in a plastic medicine cup and wet the toothbrush. Start scrubbing. Dampen your brush repeatedly until there is no Listerine left. Remember to brush your tongue, roof of mouth and inside of cheeks. Put water in medicine cup, rinse brush, rinse mouth and spit.
