I wish to thank my minions for their alert on the Druids Dread in this weeks post. http://thearchdruidreport.blogspot.com/ . Don’t think that he has joined the Dark Side

Druid Dude seems to be saying that his view of the future has started coming true much faster than he had previously thought. I can’t see him saying that we are going to have a waterfall collapse. My view, and while I try to live under its assumption I also acknowledge that I could be overly paranoid, is that we are headed for a waterfall. A constant series of small failures until suddenly the tripping point is reached and we fall straight down. His view, and he can proudly also point to living what he preaches, is that collapse is a staircase. We go straight ahead, hit a problem and fall down slightly, then make adjustments and continue straight ahead until the next small fall and adjustment. Remember, we both base our assumptions on the same book. Which, by the way, is really the only book you need on understanding the coming collapse. I think he is wrong in his views but that does not diminish my respect for him on an intellectual level.

If nothing else, I suggest you read this weeks article for its concise history of the American continent and its energy sources. His will showcase to you how we have already been in a long descent for forty years. In other words, we don’t have the luxury of time ahead of us. No, I have no idea when the waterfall crest is reached. This year? Next decade? How the heck would I know. I just know that panicking now is where the smart money is. Do you really think I could give a rats ass about my writing income because I am so laid back and mellow? I don’t look on this income as something that will see me into retirement. I act as if I must write that kind of output, I act as if this is what will put food on the table in the future. Because, just in case…But really, I know deep down the probable outcome is that all this, the Internet, UPS, the ability of readers to buy products from advertisers, all that is only years away from vanishing. Don’t discount my intangibles here. I really do care that the most people possible get prepared cheaply and quickly. That is my charity ( not stockpiling for refugees ). I’ve written for years at a loss. Profit is recent. I really don’t think it is going to last. If it is a choice between my book and a sack of corn, I would be the first one to heckle you if you bought my book. Words to the wise, I trust.

Good to know about how you get credit, I thought I selected an Amazon item via your site and then came back later, you would still get credit.
Greer finally gets it. Didn't he just move from nice liberal Cascadia somewhere, to someplace like Kentucky? Taking the Kurt Saxon tack, Kurt said something like "there's 40 miles of armed hillbillies between me and the nearest large town" I love ol' Kurt.
I love your mental picture of a waterfall. Beautiful. Myself and a fellow Doomer or two think it'll be more like Greer's original idea, a long slow downhill with periodic small drops, but your waterfall idea is not to be ignored. There are too many things that can happen or be made to happen that can make things go all to hell right quick.
I do agree the sensible thing is to panic NOW. Thank you for giving the gift of paranoia.
I swear, I get some money again (I have about $15 to my name right now) I'm gonna send you $5 or $10 anyway. You are the real deal.
Most of, no, wait, all of, the other sites from UrbanWhatever to SurvivalDonutCast to TheAutomaticWallet to RanHome to TheYuppieDrum to SurvivalYup etc on and on and on (note I don't name any actual sites living or dead) are run by fat donut-eating yuppies with central heating, mortgages, and car loans, and there's a reason for this. They grew up typing on keyboards, were class nerds in school, went to trading stock or selling insurance, and are USED to typing for hours a day. And buying stuff. And eating donuts. Setting up a big commercial-filled site is easy, they've been building sites and selling stuff since age 12. All of this is natural to their donut-filled selves, what's not natural is the actual survivalism. That's OK, they get a bunch of other ppl on there who've been there, to do the writing, distill the best of it for a podcast, delivered with the same winning mein they used in Dilbertvill, and .... PROFIT.
What makes 'em shit their Dockers is, the thought of actually having to DO IT. On say $300 a month. That's why their trying to sell sell SELL, so they can live yup style through the Apocalypse. Everything on their pages is as PC and genteel as in any tech company. Don't talk about forbidden subjects. Don't hurt anyone's FEELINGS. That would cut into profits.
Now you love to write, but you are doing the real thing. Living it. The functional eunuchs running the other sites would have their balls retract in fear at the thought of living as you do, if they hadn't already been sucked up into their adipose sugar-dusted bodies. One or two may have once lived La Vida Apocalypse, but that was 10 or more years ago and now they've RAN back to their parents and become nice little middle-class types with pudge around their middles, who give lectures in politically correct venues like private colleges for the spawn of the elite.
The problem is, all these pudgy tools and their followers are NOT going to be helpful in the Crash. In fact they'll be the ones willing to shoot you with their custom AR because they think you have a stash of pop-tarts. There's probably a tiny, almost homeopathic, amount of good people reading these fools' output, and they're gonna be led astray. Any site that is based on PC and FEELINGS, and that's pretty much all of 'em except you and Exiled (which is not directly a survivalist site).
Have you considered making stuff you can sell out of local stuff, like if you have manzanita, you may be able to make rabbit sticks, musical bows, kinda funky/cool jewelry or something. The big problem is you have to have a lot of readers for that .01% to buy something. Another thing you can do is make stuff and sell it during tourist season or at fairs etc., I know along I-40 you have to get the tourists they're the only ones with money.
I've got a copy of Overshoot on order from the library. Sound interesting.
Feel free to offer your idea.
re semi v bolt rifles. I am groping toward an idea. A simple gizmo to lock 10/22 bolt. fire. unlock. cycle bolt by hand. or leave unlocked for semiauto fire.
As you know Yugo 59/66 SKS gas cutoff button for launching grenades allows you to fire as
pull-bolt and drop reloadable brass at your feet.
anon215-I'm not sure where you are coming from. Creekmore has been living off grid for years. Rawles for (?) decades. Mayberry is still anchored to his wife's house but has stocked RV's ready to go. I actually think I was the last one to leave. I appreciate the support, but let's give credit when due.
