WITHOUT PEAK OIL
I keep forgetting to mention one of our very own minions is a knife maker. You can check it out at
http://www.docburgessknives.com/gallery.shtml . That said, let’s meander over to
http://www.thearchdruidreport.blogspot.com/ to once again visit the Druid Dude. Last weeks article saw a speed up in the rate of “
slow” decline
and this week sees the end of the
American Empire
, or more appropriately our transition into a Third World Crap Hole. Okay, he didn’t use those words because tree hugging religious guys are not allowed to be so crude and uneducated. But I have no problem with that so I just go full on vulgar when it suits me. Hey, at least I don’t drop the “F” bomb. I would think you asshats would appreciate that. Ungrateful bastards. Sorry, where was I? Okay, this week was a very good article by the Druid Dude, just like last week was. I think he does a lot better when he gets off straight economics and adds in geopolitics. Although his blog is almost a weekly book update. He spells out a bit at a time and keeps adding to it, so perhaps the pure economics were needed. But what do I know? I say the same thing a different way and everyone loves me. I try for original and I’m scum. And, speaking of your opinion of me, the article of bugging out from the city was meant to portray the fallacy of city living just for money. I know there are many reasons to stay, from sick relatives to an upside down mortgage to non custodial children. I was critical of staying just to buy better preps. But at least you all got a bit more upset. Come on, don’t be a kiss ass just because I’m approving comments. Tell me when you’re upset. Tell me I’m an idiot. Let’s not have boring comments.

You all know how I feel about
Peak Oil
. I’ll tell you again anyway in case I got one or two new readers last month. Peak Oil is already happening and the end of both dirt cheap oil and its unwavering abundance will spell the end of western civilization. In 1950 we imported more oil to the world than everyone combined pumped. That ocean of oil won us World War II. Not brilliant strategy, not a mythical generation of Americans. Not technology. It looks like the birth of the modern age was due to the spoils of war, importing Nazi tech. Brute energy flow and the sacrificial lamb of Russian fighters barely won us the war. But I won’t get too far off base here. Perhaps another day. Today, we import 70% of our oil and the lose of our domestic production has been made up by turning nearly half of our corn crop into ethanol. Canada turns her natural gas into gasoline by heating up tar sands. Mexico is in cliff diving mode over at Cantrell. Saudi Arabia is drilling more and more outside their major field to keep her numbers up. Peak Oil isn’t in five or ten years, it already started.
*
But forget about Peak Oil. Focus instead on imports. As already covered here numerous times, the last three years saw an 8% drop followed by a second year of 8% and last year was an 11% drop in the amount of oil imported. Let’s just say for the sake of argument that we’ve made up the “temporary” decline with that ethanol. Let’s go further out on a limb and say global oil production won’t fall anymore, that our 70 million barrels a day will never decrease. Let’s just concern ourselves with
economics
. China has already stopped buying our debt. We are starting to buy our own debt. Paying off today at the expense of tomorrow. We’ve bought some time. But for how long? After some point, our military starts to feel the economic contraction. Once our military goes, so goes our oil protection. As goes our ability to buy oil since military and economic superiority are together. The article sighted above spells it out very well. Once our dominance is over our oil imports start to freefall. Even if you don’t buy into American Empire, you have to acknowledge that at least there has been an arrangement where we were the worlds policeman in exchange for oil. I do buy the Empire theory, but even if we buy the official version it still leads to oil imports suffering with our military.
*
Pointing out how many millions of solar panels we could have bought with the Iraqi invasion money ignores the point of business as usual for the power brokers that historically always deplete their environment for control and riches. We are locked into the petroleum model. But we import almost all the energy we use. Even if Peak Oil wasn’t a reality, a significant drop of our imported energy spells
economic collapse
. And it will continue to happen. Denying the oppressor the tools to conquer. Going to a better paying customer. Taking money not being hyperinflated. Your pick, but imports will continue to decline. Less energy equals collapse, it is just that we can’t say when. But it will happen. Plan accordingly, and start by reading the Druid Dude who presents this case much better than I.

Dammit put something up here that I can get my bowels in an uproar about.
Hey; I was lounging around watching the big ass TV in my centrally heated living room last night. While mildly flatulant from my rich diet and engaged with competing with the dog in gas passing I couldn't help noticing that they played a history channel piece on Tesla. He saw the depletion of fossil fuels negatively and had some plans. Could he have had a line on the magic pixie dust?
Durn FBI note stealers.
Even if we get a wagon load of magic dust or gallons of sweat off a leprachinesian's gonads.--- THAT can be used in a similar fashion to pixie dust in fueling room temp fusion nukes that by-produces only flowery aromas.
Does that keep us out of the stewpot?
-and-
How many Haitians should the feds import to do the jobs the Mexicans will not around Elko.
How many can you comfortably support and house in Ranchero Bison?
Your allotment/order is almost ready to be shipped. Future Wife Quintos thinks you look delisioso.

Your experiences with rechargeables must be different than mine; ya probably take care of them properly and just "how" is that?
NO NAME
Bison,
What about coal to oil? The military already does it. Since we have 300-400 years of coal. Granted a lot of it's locked up by the tree-hugger, crunchy types. We could have a shitload of coal plants, employ some people and even use coal-fired trains to "export" every last illegal alien!!! Now that's a Stimulus Project that will actually do something!!
We don't have anywhere near 300 years of coal. Even if we did, as you convert the equivilent BTU amount to oil the figure drops considerably. And keep in mind that the Nazi's had coal to fuel and it was a net energy loss. No big deal if your survival is at stake, but we won't be invading Russia with that but rather using it to keep our domestic economy going. If it all doesn't go to enrich the entrenched. But net energy loss doesn't work economically.
More Bison brilliance. You're the ONE doomer who's got the rare combination of Peak Oil awareness (sorry but the other serious doomers seem to think the world is ending because people weren't Godly enough, too many poor or the wrong color, or .... it's the Bildersburgers' fault.
Peak Oil is not easy for the average wild-eyed wrench-bending Joe to get a mental hold of. How's a few % decline in oil production a year supposed to result in a 30% unemployment rate and actual food shortages? It just doesn't compute. It takes realizing just how leveraged our way of life is. Everything is leveraged to the extent that a few % decline and your business fails, there goes Circuit City or Mom's Flowers. A very slight decrease in confidence on the part of the consumo-proles, and these few per cent declines become widespread. The best way to illustrate it is, just a little gasoline hitting a Styrofoam cup. Meltdown!
I've ignored the Druid dude for a long time but now he's facing reality. He's always known we'll decline to a 3rd-world nation, but now his theories are becoming fact. We know it's gonna be a long, slow decline with occasional sharp drops, and now he's making note of that - and we can look out the window and see it in real time.
Prepare for Doom ....
Terms to learn: Loss/lose, cited/sighted
I got some stuff on Amazon today, including your book. Started out on your page so hopefully you make a few bucks off it.
I'm glad you "sighted" my gaffs. I look like more of an idiot when I make those simple mistakes. I could blame time pressures, or compare to my spelling of years ago. But I can't. My fault, I'm the one who let the cat out of the bag and let you know I'm perfect. With my throne comes high expectations. TOR-thanks for the purchase. You will soon hold in your hand the worldly manifistation of all said perfection. Glory in it mere mortal!
Jim, I've considered starting up a whole web site devoted to helping people on the Internet learn English and sound less like morons.
Then I realized we're past peak a lot of things, including spelling and grammar.
Again like in the movie Book Of Eli, in a couple of generations most of the fuckers out there won't be able to read at all.
It'd be wasted effort.
As it is I may disappear at any time myself; this keyboard is so old and stiff I'm developing finger strength again for the manual typewriter I expect to use in a few years, and when the computer dies that's it - I'll be able to visit the Internet once or twice a week and that will be it.
This is why I am planning to make whatever meagre but hopefully sufficient living I do in the future, without the internet or modern tech of any type. My footprint on the 'net is steadily decreasing and yours should be also.
Why not just coal? Before allowing the country to crumble I can see TPTB leveling every mountain in the country, digging every last piece of coal out of the ground and using it for electricity or developing modern day coal trains that they would claim are "environmentally friendly"

Ok, I have to ask so I can purge my favorites list and become more efficient.
I'm assuming you read/heard of all the garbage about the Beck interview with the friggin' genius from Texas. Are you a 9/11 truther? Just wondering.
I'm sure you may have covered it before, but I don't have time to read everybody's archives.
On the note of military decline: it started in earnest this year. Massive cuts are underway for personell in the nat guard around the country. The next ones to get hit will be the active side
Survival group against God?? LOL. Good luck with that. Truth is, no one knows the exact time this will happen except the man upstairs, however, I firmly believe that there are people placed here by God that post the warning signs and it's up to you to take heed.
