a trillion here...

A TRILLION HERE…

A trillion there, pretty soon we are talking real money. Three trillion worth of minerals over in Afghanistan isn’t spit, though. What are we going to do with it? Build a wall on the Mexican border with the unprocessed ore? That might slow down the flow of low cost workers and profitable drugs. It’s not like we are going to use it ourselves to build anything. That might require investments, which has long been passé. Unless the investment is a computer that manufactures free wealth through derivatives. The recent news that three trillion worth of rare minerals was found in Afghanistan does not suddenly demonstrate why we were there all along. Nor does it explain why we will be staying. It is simply whitewash, although for the life of me I can’t understand what took them so long. They were falling over themselves to explain the Iraqi invasion. Oh, look, weapons of mass destruction, no, no, we are introducing democracy to the people, no, wait, it’s because Junior was told by his father who was instructed by the illuminati who got sent a telegram from the alien overlords ( the reintroduction of the TV series “V” a cleaver ploy to mock the idea as camouflage ) to set up a mothership landing area. But it was always enough to occupy Afghanistan simply because the Taliban wouldn’t turn over Bin Laden. So why the need now to confuse the issue? Was it to counter the fact that Afghanistan is now our longest war? Again, I don’t know why, as the media is as docile as an S&M adherent locked to the bed with shackles ( and like said individual, the media enjoys such perversions as rim jobs on their masters ). Why would one idiot yammer away about the war and another try to justify it?

Not having the answers doesn’t mean that there isn’t something afoot. The media is merely part of ourbread and circuses spoon fed to the masses to keep them quiet. The majority of Americans are on some kind of welfare, which of course I’m sure every single one of them is entirely justified in receiving and why not, since to each according to his NEEDS is now the law of the land. Don’t spew your commie crap at me, I’m being nice and for this once going with you on this to avoid another food fight. I’m sure you are all entitled to your place at the trough. Of course, if you like being dependent on others, more power to you. Just know that everyone will lose those checks, sooner or later. Even without a energy collapse, an economic collapse will end your cushy way of life. Not that you aren’t ENTITLED to those checks, just that the system will collapse. Hell, when I was in the service, I knew that my paycheck was a rip off to the taxpayers and I was on the tit. And I didn’t care, just as you don’t. So long and thanks for all the fish. And I don’t care that my current job is indirectly from government grants. I just don’t think it as an ENTITLEMENT. Anyway, since the majority are dependent on Uncle Obammy’s monthly check, and since the media does a nice job whitewashing and since we are all nicely asleep at the cable sports channel ( most sports being subsidized by the taxpayers themselves ), obviously our narcotics of choice are working quite nicely. I’m sure most of us know we are suckers and don’t even really care. We can’t change anything, if voting actually worked it would be illegal. Must of us, if not on the government tit, are wage/debt slaves.

Mineral deposits in Afghanistan are pretty much besides the point. It changes nothing. We went to the country, then to Iraq, to control the oil. Not that we are pumping it out into our own tankers and shipping it over. It seems our normally ham fisted idiots in charge are a bit more subtle. We have in essence locked the whole region down. Look at the map. By occupying those two countries we freeze the status quo as far as who gets the oil. No invasions are possible, at least by the superpowers. We are right next door to all the troublemakers such as Iran and Syria and Pakistan. We can even have a say in the glaciers which supply India’s and China’s water. Of course the occupation has already helped bankrupt us ( although not at the same pace as Goldman Saks ), but empire decline is already a given. It just prolongs things. It certainly makes more sense than the idiotic Domino Theory we had to get us into Vietnam. This is The Great Game, as first practiced by Britain and Russian, and those two were never too stupid in their strategies.

A bit short and inconsequential today, sorry. I got too busy at work and never gave much thought to a subject for lunch. Hey, what can I tell you? Everyday can’t be “Jim As All-Knowing” Day.

Seems that we stopped winning wars after we implemented enhanced Rules Of Engagement. Just another notch in our Stupidity Pole for all to see before it (and we) will get tossed onto history's ash heap.

Jim, China allowing its currency to appreciate against the dollar means that the direct variation in the cost of Chinese labor this causes will allow for more production of goods here in the U.S.

I speculate that this will cause us to have a more savage attitude towards the people of Afghanistan, like the horrors we foisted upon the Vietnamese for tin and copper.

You're alright, Jim. It's posts such as this that I like to read your stuff.

Dude, I spent a year in Afghanistan and didn't see one friggin' oil well.

I think you've been drinkin' the peak oil kool-aid a little too long. Try Keystone Light for a few weeks. It might help.

O Great Oracle of Elko! I have been reading your blog for so long I am beginning to believe you are right.

I don't want you to be right, I'd rather you were a paranoid nutbag BUT your arguments make a great deal of sense. I watch a half hour of Fox, then I watch a half hour of CNN
and then I read your blog. By then I am crying and sobbing and yelling "O God Why " Then I usually drink myself into a stupor. Although I must confess I used to drink quite a bit before I started reading your blog.
It is difficult to face the harsh reality that the elite want to thin the herd and we are the herd.thanks for the insight.

Taliban now terrorists I remember 30 yrs ago they were "freedom fighters".
We were giving them weapons and money to break the USSR, It worked, they won the cold war for us. We won by default, after their pockets were inside out,Russia ceased to be a threat. It's an expensive country to have a war in, especially if your fighting a large country covertly. I have suspected for a long time that China is funding the Taliban.

I suspect our reason for being there now is the same as before, and the same reason Russia wanted control of the oil then. Its the currency more than oil, the largest players are in position to dictate oil trade currency, we are there at least in part, to retain our currency as world trade currency.

Probably doesn't mater, Like Jim says "were all going to die" anyway.

"The majority of Americans are on some kind of welfare"
You were just gonna spend it anyways.

I heard on the radio the average wage earner receives 112K in government employment and 50k in private employment.

Summer time is coming the old farts traveling in their RV's ranging in costs of 175k to 750k They purchased these units with there 70-90% pay from there public-service jobs. People in the private sector could never afford that crap. Most of these public service types could never make it in a world where pay was based on a level of productivity, they would be lucky to have a job pumping gas.

Even our farmers are on welfare, they get paid not to farm, and keep supply low and prices higher. And crop insurance is a government subsidized kick back. The best way to control a population is by controlling the food.

But its all well and fair! Right?

Brass- thanks, I couldn't remember where I stole that from. Jack- that's why I shouldn't publish a book of quotes. I write on "mental diarrea mode", sometimes not knowing myself what was hatched and what was remembered. Anon413- as was stated in the article, it isn't stealing the oil as much as controling the whole region.

Lord Bison,

Understood. When you read and write that much, it's easy to forget who first said what.

Not sure how many people read your day old posts, so this might be a waste of time...but what the heck.

I'm ANON413 and I need to make a couple of quick points in the name of facts.

@ Lord Bison; You said, "as was stated in the article, it isn't stealing the oil as much as controling the whole region."

The problem is that not only are there NO oil wells in Afghanistan, it is not in "the region". It's on the periphery.

Now, if you want to argue that Afghanistan was attacked in conjunction with Iraq to box in Iran, because NeoCons wanted to democratize the Middle East (maybe because of oil and also for stability) you might have a better arguement.

However, Afghanistan WAS (I'm not sure what the hell we're doing now) was in response to 9/11. I know, I know Bush and Cheney really blew up the World Trade Center. The point is that 9/11 was the single largest attack on our soil in our Nation's history. Thank God we didn't just bomb a dern aspirin factory in response.

My point is that the whole Afghanistan expedition is much more complicated than "Hey let's grab all the oil".

Finally...

@ Buck; The Taliban were not the "freedom fighters" of thirty years ago. That is simply false and is a manufactured arguement by the left that tries to pin Ronald Reagan and GW Bush for being the bad guys in Afghanistan. I would not expect paranoid conspiracy theorists to parrot MSNBC!

Most of the Mujahideen that fought the Soviets are either members of the Afghan National Army or belong to militias of regional War Lords. Very few are actually Taliban. Yep, Bin Laden was there, but he was a logistics geek!

The majority of the Taliban are orphaned children of the Soviet invasion who were indoctrinated in Madrassa's in the refugee camps in Pakistan.

The reality is that the average Afghani is not totally different from the people who visit this site. For the most part they are fiercly independant, do not want to be controlled by a corrupt central government and generally reject any organization that seeks to impose their values upon them (Taliban, NATO, UN, etc.).

Again, maybe a few Keystone Lights and a little more research would be worthwhile. Just a suggestion.

Carry On...

Plese do not equate your service with the Civil Air Patrol in high school to military service. And no you did not deserve pay for that service. But those of us who squatted on jungle trails, and worked hard to see your ass safe did deserve our pay. Keep to your particular brand of madness and leave the military comments to those who served. Why don't you poll your readership and see how many combat vets you have. No, not the 197th mess kit repair units or the Air Force or Navy (other then the PBR boys) but the genuine groundpounder, blow your ass off at 300 yards, mud apes?

James m Dakin said...

Doc- as I was peace time military, I had no illusions I was on the tit paywise. I don't equate that with combat duty, a whole other kettle of fish. I have stated here before that I view combat veterns differantly than those that put in a hitch in peacetime.
