aids and oil rigs

AIDS AND OIL RIGS

Before we begin today’s Quest For Wisdom And Truth, a short word on the inner workings at the Bison Compound. It was implied in yesterday’s comments that if I would only write at night I would see riches beyond my wildest dreams pour in and I could quit my day job and devote all my extra time towards editing out typos and misspellings. I don’t blame folks for the misconception about electricity off grid. They grow up and spend their whole lives using very cheap electricity. The old codgers saw nickel an hour electric and even with the recent jump in rates most folks are paying just ten cents a kilowatt hour for juice. A house full of lights left on all evening cost about three bucks a month. A laptop ( Dell D600 Laptop 1.6ghz 40gb DVD/CDRW B Grade Includes Genuine XP Professional restore cd! ) on four hours every day costs about the same. As does running a small chest freezer. Off grid, even running 3 watt LED lights ( Rite Lite LPL623W 5 LED Puck Light 3 Pack - White ), you need three or four hundred bucks worth of panels and batteries. I would need to double that to even have a chance of using my computer every day ( and I must write every day- I’m not an “inspirational” writer, I’m a “disciplined schedule” writer ). My last book on Apocalypse movies was written during the summer, and during the weekend to get all the sun ( as opposed to writing during dark after work ). The book before that was written by computer battery. I would take the computer in to work every other day to recharge it from the wall plug in. Shortly thereafter, the battery died ( a $300 computer and they want half of that to replace the battery ). Since I’ve lived off grid, writing at home has been a challenge.

And yet, I churn out twenty thousand words a month, minimum, just writing at work during my lunch hour. I put out the equivalent of three novels a year. Name me a professional, mass market writer that does the same without a ghost writer ( The Ghost Writer: A Novel ) helping. I can write up a storm. I love writing, it is my call in life. We might disagree whether I do it well or not, but at least by volume you have to agree I’m doing well. It is the money for electric issue that holds me back from writing fiction ( which, at least in this genre, is the money maker ), and, to be honest, my doubt as to my proficiency keeping me from making the investment. My non-fiction, all my books, averages about $25 a month. It will never pay the bills. And I dare not quit a steady job until my child support is paid. Frank Herbert ( The White Plague ) might have been able to stay ahead of the law continually dodging his support ( and he also lived part time in Mexico when he needed to stretch out the money he did have ), but today I would be tracked down like a dog and put in jail. I might not be able to write as much there, what with lack of sleep while protecting my anal entry and using TP to write on.

You have to simply chuckle. The federal government is helping out state and local governments with their budget deficit. But not by giving them money. Oh, no. Free money to bankers, to everyone else another loan. The reality of this bailout is that the feds will help you take out a loan, and then pay a third of the interest payments. Big flippin deal. A third of one percent. The message is crystal clear. All bailouts must enrich the ruling class- the bankers. All taxpayers must lose services and pay higher taxes ( The End of Prosperity: How Higher Taxes Will Doom the Economy--If We Let It Happen ). Which brings us to today’s article once again skirting the edge of paranoia and tin foil hat fashion statements. Back to the conspiracy theories ( American Conspiracies: Lies, Lies, and More Dirty Lies that the Government Tells Us ). I think conspiracies happen. Seriously, you think Oswald acted alone? The issue is the mechanics of them. The theories can be largely discredited in the publics mind by presenting them as being controlled in micromanaged form. I think it is wrong to assume those pulling the strings plan and control things down to the smallest details. They don’t- they simply control major events that nudge things in their direction. Which would explain the one step forward, two steps back nature of events. Kind of like the government setting up a new tax. Everything that happens after that is from market forces, but the government started the ball rolling. Two things that concern me today, or at least popped into my head and won’t leave, are AIDS and the BP oil rig. Don’t you think it was a bit of a coincidence that AIDS appeared right about the time things were seriously falling apart? Our control over energy slipped. We were no longer the global leader in petroleum. We lost our manufacturing lead and had to reign back in our conventional military role ( we pretty much waited to get in another conventional war until the technology got good enough for a lot more smart weapons to decrease resource needs- the Gulf War didn’t really count as everybody else paid for it ).

*

What better time, as it looked like the Oil Age was imploding quickly, to sharply cut back on the number of people needing energy. Introduce a plague and get rid of those pesky eaters that we no longer need to work the factory floors. Or, more likely, AIDS ( The Invisible Cure: Why We Are Losing the Fight Against AIDS in Africa ) was never meant as a serious threat here in the US but was always intended for Africa. When you have upwards to 50%+ of the population infected, that would seriously destabilize things on a permanent basis, allowing uncontested resource theft. Africa became our ore and oil deposit ( as well as more gold to prop up the dollar ). Now that China has moved in as we are occupying the middle east ( one wonders who got the better deal ), that source is in danger, or at least declining. Which then brings us to the BP oil rig. I thought from the first I learned about the riches gleaned from short selling days before the explosion that something didn’t smell right. I had no idea what. Now, since I find it hard to believe that even our government could be this idiotic, I am wondering if the whole thing wasn’t orchestrated. First, a banker makes more millions. Then, the Damn Yankees once again use the South to enrich themselves. Next, companies are pulling out of drilling in the Gulf. Who would want the drilling to stop, and why? I’ll change my mind again, but right now the only thing I can think of is that the bankers want to save themselves a little longer and are trying to crash the economy.

*

Dry up a lot of oil supply and kill the economy. And the bankers, who almost bankrupted themselves through derivatives, are saved another day as they resell foreclosed homes, liquidate retail stocks of bankrupt companies, collect the balance on home equity from those threatened with debtors prisons, etc. Yes, perhaps a bit far fetched. But if you think, how will the bakers continue to save themselves, it might begin to make sense. Or at least get you thinking along those lines. Does it seem silly to even worry about it? Maybe. But, despite Wild Ass Guesses, when/if you are right you might catch a glimpse of the future and how it might effect you.

Monday's article will be a guest article, as I'm going to visit family this weekend and won't write Friday afternoon or this weekend.

Interesting theory. I realized the cause an affect of rigs leaving, but you suggest the cause is intentional to collapse. It does make sense.

We were able to absorb high fuel prices in the past, but we had some cash reserve.(fuel costs gave the economy the push that started the downward spiral) With no change to spare, a fuel increase now would bring about a rapid crash.

Also oil speculation is like to rise soon as more rigs sail away (fearing Obama will be successful in a moratorium)Speculation alone will affect pump prices.

A moratorium on oil drilling is also a huge risk to national security.

I have an idea! If JWR gets ten cents for posting others writings, yours is worth a buck.

Rather than a voluntary random donation, you could ask for a voluntary subscription of a dollar a month. Random donations are fine, but people never will know how much is enough so they do nothing.

But if a price is stated, one knows what is expected. If they want to send more, they can.

Imagine if you have 5-thousand readers (i dont know what your site count is) But if only 200 of us send a dollar every month that would defiantly improve your situation. Also to save on postage if 200 sent 12 bucks cash in an envelope (year subscription)you would get a good influx of cash.

You would need to push the subscription- perhaps explain the program at the bottom of each post (with your current info).

Wow. Your article today is long AND thick.

You laid it on the line. Writing is what you love and what you do, period. Settled. I guess that message has been out there all along, but now I believe you. Just like, these days I practice my trumpet and now cornet (a student cornet only a couple of years older than I am) daily, because .... this is what I am going to do. I have grandiose plans of playing Xmas carols for cash come winter, but in truth even if I never do that, I'm gonna get good on this thing because it's what I'm going to do. I do honestly think I can make about $5 an hour playing it anyway, and at places I can reach by bicycle, bus, or train. Hence, the motorcycle is gone, too expensive to feed, register, insure, and maintain at my income level. Actually, remembering the old math from 1985, $5 an hour was a gross of $800 a month and a take-home of $600. That's double what I made last year and I worked pretty hard. This year I'm trying to work smarter and may do about the same, but have more fun. A Depression/Apocalypse or "Depocalypse", is a good time to do whatever you want since you won't miss out making huge money by doing so.

About the electricity issue - yeah I'm spoiled. I have juice courtesy of the landowner and a long extension cord - hooked to another long extension cord. Why, I'm just switching on Mr. Coffee right now. At least I have several alcohol stoves to use in a pinch, and have, a nifty little Coleman "sportster" I got at Wal's for $50 (which may provide winter heat too) and know my way around cooking with wood fairly well. I get to use my laptop here, I have to admit, it's pretty nice. (Internet courtesy of 2 long ethernet cables end to end lol). In this respect you are living in the future more than most of us.

Have you considered writing using longhand, learning shorthand and using that, or getting a good old fashioned typewriter? I'm not joking, I'm serious. Then you just have LED light to worry about, not the juice to run a computer. Of course then the stuff has to be transcribed into the computer ..... ugh. Well, maybe just jot down plot ideas etc and you probably already do that.

Where can the pics of the Famous Bison Bunker be found? Jim is living the example and I am still trying to do just some of what he does to make a go of it. Thanks for sharing your life with your readers, your ideas have inspired more than you know.

Your Lordship, surely you can threaten your minions with no Friday content if you receive less than $XX (I cannot put a price on your words) during the week before. Why should your writings fall from the heavens like manna when you are bound to this earthly realm? The pit needs a heat source, m'lord! Lady Bison deserves a forty ounce bottle of colt 45 every now and then!

The proposed ban on drilling is only for 6 months and any rig that sails away from the gulf can sail right back and hook right back up to the well it was sucking oil from before it left, or from any of the 100's of other capped wells in the gulf.

This on the other hand:

we can't do much about. We're pretty much fucked.
