mutiny on the bounty

MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY

While I normally am rather scornful and rude to slow collapsers, yuppie survivalists, or others who refuse to read my pearls of wisdom and then go running out into traffic screaming that the end is nigh, I do like the Three Amigos over at http://tslrf.blogspot.com/, who seem to be pretty good eggs. They are Libertarian Survivalists, and while they could be nearly perfect such as myself and be Anarchist Doomsters, that is close enough to keep them from my Hated Enemies Of Bisonia list. You don’t want to be on that list, trust me. Anyway, there was a movie review of The Book Of Eli ( The Book of Eli ) over at their site and they mentioned a scene highlighting the problem of No Ammunition. This is not exactly new, since it was splendidly portrayed in The Road Warrior ( The Road Warrior (Keepcase) ) as the few hoarded shotgun shells either misfired or crumpled to dust ( remember Hockey Mask Evil Outlaw Leader dude with the briefcase containing the scoped revolver and its few cartridges? ). But it is a good reminder that while guns should last a long time, the ammunition will not. Which probably answers my question as to why the Afghan Freedom Fighters ( before they were magically transformed into Non-Christian Terrorists Who Have The Audacity To Thwart The Aims Of American Empire ) went from battle rifles ( good ) to assault carbines ( bad ). They might have been taking a beating tactically with their choice of firearm, but logistics is king on the battlefield. They went with the available ammo. I would say, let this be a lesson to you, but to be a pain in my ass you would just go out and buy an AR-15. So I won’t.

*

Americans have always known resource abundance. We no longer live in that Happy Place, but few will admit that our reign is over and we have already entered into Energy Down. Even the best selling authors soft sell the collapse, trying to pass off the reality of rat skin wearing, bubonic plague ( The Black Death: Natural and Human Disaster in Medieval Europe ) carrying flea scratchers beating each other over the head with salvaged rebar for tonight’s dinner with idyllic visions of Yeoman farmers peacefully feeding themselves with organic radishes, basking in the glow of solar powered energy efficient light bulbs. Doom doesn’t sell unless it happens to everyone else but you. The other side of the abundance coin is our reality being politics of peacefulness ( perception is reality ). I’m not saying there have never been exploited classes here. I’m not saying things have always been peaches and cream. I am saying that the majority believe the American Dream, which is largely summarized as More Abundance Always. We might fight tooth and nail with each other over luxuries but almost never over necessities. So the fighting is civilized. Lawyers rather than tribal slaughter. It colors our whole reality, that way of fighting. We don’t know real want, so we don’t know real conflict ( I’m talking subsidence wars, not wars to retain leadership which is what we’ve had for 300 years ). So, to finally get to the damn point here, our rose colored glasses do not prepare us for collapse conflict. Starting with the fabled survival group.

*

We all pretty much envision our survival group to be a mutual support society. Even if we can’t find a co-op to bulk shop for survival food now, we figure that come the start of the collapse we can form a group of survivors ( Survivors: Complete Original Series 1975-1977 ). It hasn’t happened since the citizens of Nagasaki started glowing in the dark, but we are convinced we can pull it off soon. As one wag wrote ( sorry, I can’t think of who ), survival groups don’t work because everyone thinks they are going to be in charge. That explains why the groups don’t work, but what happens when they must work? No man an island. Man is a social animal. Man must group together to survive long term. Now, take it to its logical conclusion. We will be forced to group, but that means the Alpha Male ( Alpha Male Syndrome ) must fight for dominance. Which means, unlike our recent past where conflict could be leaning towards a more civilized path ( at least for the whites ), conflicts will be for keeps. When one tribe must die for the other to live, things get ugly. And when only one man can be king, and the losers become serfs, conflict turns ugly. Who amongst you will voluntarily live without heat through the winter, eating only grains and tubers, seeing your children die of simple infections? It goes far beyond living in luxury. It becomes one man living in luxury and his subjects living on the razors edge of death. To keep power under those circumstances requires total brutality. You might think that your devote little group of Jesus freaks will honor and protect you because it is the right thing to do, but you may wish to view exhibit A, the good works of the Roman Catholic Church such as The Inquisition.

*

No group is too small to have this problem of leadership conflict. I’m not implying that a small group of six will degenerate into a war over The Man Who Would Be King. ( The Man Who Would Be King ) But there will be a tendency to lean towards unfair and dirty fighting over control at whatever level. And the farther down the level of supplies goes, the greater the tendency to want to control how it is used. Remember human nature? It will overcome philosophy, legal documents, good sense and even blood ties. Humans are programmed to fight their fellows for survival. If one member decides that, say, a sickly wife should be triaged, conflict starts. No matter the wives husband pooled a fair or larger share of supplies. Human nature ensures survival through fair or foul means. The others will be convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt in their own minds that what they decide to do is right and just. And that is just survival. There is also the question of simple greed. Coveting another members wife, say ( and I’ll guarantee you, with the wife’s encouragement ). I’m not judging. I’m simply accepting people as they really are. A female sees a potential Alpha Male, she uses the money makers. A male sees his survival odds increase with his own more enlightened leadership, people die.

*

I’m not discouraging groups, per se. I’m warning you that they won’t be peaceful. Most of you will die or submit, regardless of the original ownership or group dynamic or airtight agreement. Greed and survival. Save The Whale types always bemoan mans lack of natural predators. Hogwash. We keep ourselves in check.

Good advice pointing out the problems that can arise in groups. If one does live with a group, it would be wise to have a plan B bug-out site that nobody else knows about (stocked with wheat, a grinder and a Lee Enfield of course!).

I think the most important thing to avoid in a group is having someone there who is prone to extreme fits of anger/venting. But I suppose you could always shoot and eat him.

Love the new spider-hole. Now you need to camoflauge it. Nice pics.

re CCI 22 CB Longs
Survival Guns by Mel Tappan page 177 quote " In a barrel of 22" or longer the CB cap is almost totally silent. At a distance of 8 feet from the muzzle of my 24" Anschutz, the sound level from firing was only 9 db, and at 15 feet was totally inaudible. Not only does this lack of noise make the CCI long CB caps desireable for indoor or backyard target practice, it makes them virtually a necessity for survival use should you ever need to do some shooting without attracting attention or alarming game in the neighborhood."
You will wish to try the Remington subsonic 22LR round. It has three times the impact, but is little louder than the CB.

Jim,

One point, I feel that you are wrong about how "subjects" of the group leader would be treated. The would be a "Noble" class as well as the Royal and Serf classes. The Noble class who be the Head Honcho's "helpers" and who have plenty to eat, etc.(as long as there it to be had).

"A female sees a potential Alpha Male, she uses the money makers"

Ya know, while that statement seems true enough and in fact has happened plenty throughout history I think I might have something to add here.

Of course we have all seen it. Women know they do it and it works very well but lets add in another point you made Bison:

"We might fight tooth and nail with each other over luxuries but almost never over necessities. So the fighting is civilized. Lawyers rather than tribal slaughter. It colors our whole reality, that way of fighting. We don’t know real want, so we don’t know real conflict ( I’m talking subsidence wars, not wars to retain leadership which is what we’ve had for 300 years )"

In a group bent on survival where men learn to trust each other this potential for women to stir up trouble falls. Sometimes by a significant amount.

I have had some experience in this area and when the retribution or counter action is swift and the women do not have a badge and prison terms to hide behind those types of games become much more costly. Also as men become "brothers" and part of a team (something men have always been good at) the jealousy factor falls.

Without this feminist society and biased family courts and laws the female manipulation factor will fall IMO.

Excellent post today.

One way to get some "hardcore" training may be to actually join a group of homeless people for a while. No, I don't think any Right-Thinking American will actually do this, but bear with me here.

"The homeless" are killed for sport by cops, teenagers, and frankly anyone else who feels like doing so, including other homeless. Disputes are not settled among them by calling 911 or threatening to sue. While they are not truly wild, living off of the pick-a-nick baskets of our still-bountiful culture, they are a lot more "wild" than anyone else one is likely to meet. And they're all over the place now, so it's not hard to find a "tribe" to join.

And they do live in little tribes, or bands. Some are formed around an alpha male most other homeless tribelets can't stand, some are formed around a common interest in alcohol, certain drugs, etc.

Is it a violent way of life? Accounts I have read differ. Some are full of accounts of continual danger, and the chance of rape and murder stalking everyone, male and female alike. Others writing of this life say things like, "We were always trying *not* to argue or get into a fight, because we could not take the chance of getting injured".

I myself am a slow-crash-with-sudden-drops Doomer, we're into the Doom now and it looks like just what I see around me: Whole blocks of empty stores, more and more abandoned houses, households of 7 people "and grand'ma in back' where there used to be 3. But we will have periods of occasional craziness. The odd riot, the odd marauding passers-through.

As for guns'n'ammo, near'n'dear to my heart .... get into what they call "buckskinning" that's basically pretending to be Dan'l Boone, fringy clothes and all and Oh yes, the old Kentucky rifle, a wonderful thing a really serious buckskinner will at least know how to make the powder etc for, even if they use Pyrodex day to day.

sorry for changing the subject for a minute but I have a couple of questions.

What is the purpose of the cave you dug on your property?

Is it going to fill up with water when it rains or snow melts?

Are you going to do more to it in the future?

Are you going to frame in a door?

Wouldn't a periscope be a good idea for "looking around"?

I genuinely want to know and this is not a smart ass post.

Ah, the old standby. "The Inquisition! Checkmate!" It's wrong to kill someone for their beliefs, or to torture them. No doubt about it. However: the inquisition saw about 2,000 people killed over its decades-long span, and it was kept going by Ferdie and Isabella when the Pope had already told them to knock it off. Compared to materialist atheists, who starved millions of Ukrainians in a few years? (And why not? They're simply matter to be manipulated by other matter.)

Instead of dwelling on an admittedly evil event that runs counter both to the teachings of Christ and His Church, an event which is somehow supposed to disprove the idea that Christians look out for their fellow Christians (and non-Christians,) I recommend that you look up why the Chief Rabbi of Rome converted to Catholicism after WWII. I would recommend you research the Assisi Underground. Read the encyclical Mit Brennender Sorge. Look up Maximilian Kolbe. Look up Cardinal Clemens-August von Galen, the "Lion of Munster." Look up Cardinal Mindszenty.

Or you can just keep saying, "But . . the Inquisition! Checkmate!"

I am not an alpha male. I will bow to your greater power and be helpful and no trouble. Until that moment when I see the opportunity to eliminate you. Do you really think you can trust anyone who is not close family or life long friends???

Society has emasculated males, we are expected to act as geldings except when summoned to reproduce. Like it or not, we are all animals. Like Jim said our instincts are programed-primal instincts.

Yet when we sleep with the waitress and get caught, we are blamed. Deep down its just primal instinct. But, by the same token, a woman is programed to trade-up.... When she screws your boss its programing instinct.

A prison is a good example of destitution and primal instincts (gangs are tribal), Throw in a woman and a Alpha blood bath would erupt. And that's just over the woman, their food is a given. Women are told to say they want a sensitive guy with feelings; one that weeps. But what they really want, is a powerful warrior of strength and power.

If the world goes Mad Max it wont bode well when a woman sees her man butt raped by bikers...She'll lust for a stronger animal.

Yes, those materialist communist atheists. Put any thought into your inane drivel, Brass?

The Crusades; the Spanish inquisition; the persecution of Jews and the forced conversion of peoples to Catholicism, especially in South America.

The vacuity of recent Catholic apologies by drawing on the case of Cardinal Bernard Law – shamed out of office in the US for his part in covering up the institutionalized sexual abuse of children – whose punishment from the Vatican was to be appointed a supreme vicar in Rome, and who was among those assembled in the 2005 Papal Conclave to choose the next Pope.

The Church has been responsible for the death of millions of Africans because of Church’s disastrous stance on Aids prevention, as well as the ongoing trials in Rwanda in which Catholic priests stand accused of inciting massacre during the 1994 genocide.

Funny. Before the Pill, there were three STDs, all of them curable. Now there are dozens, many incurable. And you think it is downright unreasonable to ask someone to get married and have sex with one person as a method of not catching a lethal disease?

The Crusades? What was wrong with the majority of the Crusades? Christians were living like second-class citizens. Forced to pay extra taxes. Refused religious freedom of public worship. The Crusades liberated them from Mahometan rule.

If you find an Institution that has human beings in it, you'll find atrocities. If you think that doesn't include organizations like the Red Cross or the March of Dimes, think again.

Cardinal Law should have been put in prison or executed, along with every other pedophile or person who covered up for the pedophiles. What do you want from me? Wasn't Jesus betrayed by one of the twelve he personally hand-picked? Didn't he warn of wolves in sheep's clothing? Didn't he say that it would be better for such people that they would never have been born, and it would be better for them if they had a millstone hanged around their necks and were drowned in the sea?

As for "AIDS in Africa is spread by abstinence." From the scientists I've read, the pope is dead right in saying that condom usage won't stem the AIDS scourge. The countries with the highest distribution of condoms, including Kenya, Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe, also happen to be the countries with the highest rate of infection, while Uganda, which has an abstinence-based program, has one of the lowest. I can't say I'm surprised, but I hope you can explain why that is the case, if the Church pushing for abstinence has led to an increase of HIV and AIDS infections.

Dr. Edward Green, anthropologist at the Harvard School of Public Health, also says you're wrong:

"It is a very indicting statement about the effectiveness of condoms. You cannot show that more condoms have led to less AIDS in Africa.... I look at the data and I see that what might be called a more liberal response to AIDS — more and more millions or billions of condoms — has simply not worked, especially in parts of the world with the highest infection rate, Africa and the Caribbean."

Wrong. People will still have sex, look at the failure of abstinence only education in America. And to lie and say that there are little holes in condoms that don't block AIDS to peasants in a third world country is murder. Also, condom usage is an effective, but not foolproof, means to prevent AIDS.

http://www.who.int/inf-new/aids2.htm
"Uganda's success in reducing high HIV infection rates is the result of high-level political commitment to HIV prevention and care, involving a wide range of partners and all sectors of society. Same-day results for HIV tests and social marketing of condoms and self-treatment kits for sexually transmitted infections, backed up by sex education programmes, have helped reduce very high HIV infection rates."

The Crusades? What was wrong with the majority of the Crusades? Christians were living like second-class citizens. Forced to pay extra taxes. Refused religious freedom of public worship. The Crusades liberated them from Mahometan rule.

Too bad they had to kill all those jews, pagans, and heretics during their holy wars.
