THIRD WORLD STATES
I finally saw “The Book Of Eli” (
The Book of Eli
) last night. You know, I was really looking forward to watching “The Road” (
The Road (Movie Tie-in Edition 2009) (Vintage International)
) and was VERY disappointed. With “Eli” I wasn’t sure it would be any good so I kept putting off watching it. This despite the fact that I love Oldman and Washington ( I didn’t realize Beals was in it- loved Flashdance [
Flashdance
]. I saw it originally in theatres with an Eddie Murphy movie- remember double features? ). But Eli was a darn good movie. A damn fine movie. Was it a good post-apocalypse movie? Weeeelll, I think I have to say no. Too many holes in it. But I doubt it was intended as such. It was clearly a religious fable. The whole Moses wandering the desert before delivering the word of God thing. I’m not sure if it was meant as a modern retelling but that is my guess. As I said, a very good movie, but not what you would expect for post-collapse.

I think the Druid Dude is doing a pretty good job in his newest series trying to debunk current agricultural practices and our dependences on them. By dissecting the process he points out the problems.
http://thearchdruidreport.blogspot.com/ . On a related note, did you hear about the Australian mining firm trying to buy a phosphate (
Bonide #969 4LB Triple Super Phosphate
) outfit for $40 billion? They said they were worth at least sixty. My goodness, how little of the stuff is actually left if the valuation is that high? Or is it just stock still being insanely overvalued? You go! Plunge Protection Team. Don’t let the financial market decline, what else is holding up all those derivatives (
All About Derivatives Second Edition (All About Series)
)?

National Pravda Radio reporting on the issue of Pakistan not receiving much disaster aid from the rest of the world. Some idiot talking head with that cute little colonial English accent guessing that since Pakistan has a corrupt government no one wants to send money. Guess again, you dumbass. It doesn’t matter if Grandma Josephine Six Pack sends ten bucks or not. It matters if China or Saudi Arabia ( neither country modeled after a democracy ) are sending millions. Now, the normal guess might be that the scale of the disaster is slow in getting out ( millions dead? ) so governments have been slow to pledge help. They don’t know it is so bad. But we don’t do “normal” here, now do we? No, we do extreme paranoia here, and I will thank you all to remember that. You want the voice of reason, go visit Rawles (
How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It: Tactics, Techniques, and Technologies for Uncertain Times
). Someone that wouldn’t want to offend you. Oh, right! Like that pays the bills. Now, as the nominal head of the local chapter of Paranoids R Us, I postulate for your pernicious pleasures the following. Lack of aid is from one or two things. One, the global economy is far worse than anyone is letting on and there is little spare cash to spare or, my personal favorite, two, the aim is to see Pakistan fail as a state. Why? What, I’m Henry Friggin Kissinger (
Kissinger: A Biography
) now? Okay, the US is actually the better aid donator right now, so my guess is that others see the failure of Pakistan as a blow against our middle eastern occupation. If Saudi Arabia is afraid of us ( in their position, I sure as heck would be- as afraid as I am of Hillary nuking the prez and those under him so she can take over and do things right the second time around ) and China wants us out of their hemispheres ( I’m sure they would trade us a Chavez for an Iraq ), what better way than allow a nuclear weapon enabled Moslem state to fail? And, unless the Russians loaned them their Tesla earthquake/weather modifier machine, they didn’t have to do a thing to help its collapse along. Isn’t power politics fun?
*
And, speaking of power politics (
Power Politics (Second Edition)
)( if I might be so bold as to follow up on my own set-up ), how about those state finances? As I said before, when the feds subsidized loan interest payments rather than giving grants outright to the states, we are now in a period of state colonization. Things have gotten so bad financially for the Federal Reserve that they have to start eating the feed corn of the individual states. Again with NPR, West Virginia was reported as having a yearly surplus. One of ten states. How did they do it? By not paying into the state retiree fund. Oh, hey, that sure is fiscally sound. The flip side of green shoots- put off pain until next year when the thrice delayed rebound takes place. And how about Illinois taking some of their loan to pay current interest payments a few months ago? This is pure financial fun and games out of the Third World playbook. Our states are turning into Third World entities, or, as I put it with cleverness and no small amount of cuteness, Third World States. Now, it has become a cliché to say we are all turning into a Third World country. America. But what if it was more selective than that? On a state by state basis. Exploit the weak ones, the overpopulated ones first.
*
Colonization is exploiting the economy for the benefit of the master country. And now the Federal Reserve (
The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve
) Bank is exploiting selective areas in this country. Loot the pension fund. Check. Indenture the populace by lifetime amounts of debt, concentrated in urban areas so they can’t grow their own food. Check. Only apply band-aid solutions to natural disasters. Check. Allow the excess population to die off. Check ( in this case, death by food lacking nutrients ). This has always been the case, states working for the benefit of the masters. But now that energy surplus is gone it becomes obvious. There is no more attempt at putting a nice face on things. America is different, and we do things differently here. Health care will be to freely distribute toxic “cures”. Overeating is caused by desperately sucking in calories without nutrients. It is death by too much food with too little sustenance rather than death by no food. Instead of death by lack of money, you get lots and lots of money- it just won’t buy anything. You are in a Third World state, and you toil for the home country. You may not be shackled to a loom, thin with hunger and dying of smallpox. Instead, you are fat and sick, with a pair of golden handcuffs chaining you to a mortgage and SUV payment, dying of cancer. Now, you can expect a continuation of higher taxes ( those monkey anus molesters in the state government here want to tax my Amazon book purchases! Sold from another state, transported over federal roads. If I bought them over a telephone line, that was subsidized through a federal tax. What has the state done to participate in this sale? ) with much lower services. Your life will be endangered through water contamination, unpoliced roads, unpoliced neighborhoods, contaminated foods, etc. Taxes are going up to support the bankers, not to keep services running. And you can absolutely kiss your non-fed pension goodbye ( fed workers and SS recipients get all their money- paid in hyper-inflated Greenbacks ).
*
But, hey, don’t listen to me. The recovery is just around the corner, right? No need to try to increase your self-sufficiency.

Great post Lord Bison! BTW I saw Blago on TV today, your hair is better. I live in a corrupt east coast shithole and here is a scam the local government is running. This scam WILL be coming to all towns as it is VERY profitable.
Step one - Triple property taxes so many poor and elderly homeowners cannot pay.
Step two - Sell the overdue property tax bill to private investors who cover the taxes and charge the homeowner 16 percent interest on the unpaid balance.
Step three - Some homeowners simply cannot pay the property tax plus loan shark interest so the investor takes your house after a year waiting period! Yep, even if the house is paid for!
Who makes out?
The township gets triple the normal property tax and the investor vultures get 16 percent interest and get to steal your home for back taxes if you cannot pay.
Who gets fucked? Anyone who owns property in Shithole Maryland.
This scam is why your junk land and trailer setup will work better and better as time goes on. Tripling property taxes from 100 bucks a year to 300 bucks a year will probably not make you homeless.
I see a lot of pissed off ex homeowners using gasoline/oil mix and a road flare to make sure no one steals their home. the investor vulture will inherit land with a smoking hole where the basement was. The land will have value but not as much. HAIL FUCKING DARWIN!
I love that Eli movie line uttered by Bad Guy - WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT OUR HYGEIENE? Lol, good one!
re 1976 GMC 3/4 4x4 stickshift pickup I once took Edelbrock 1405 carb, disassembled it on tailgate, installed new float, and drove home.
Also I installed two inline fuel filters in tandem at intake side of fuel pump.
I may live to regret buying the 91 3/4 4x4 sub. On 1991 suburban the fuel pump is inside fuel tank,
and fuel filter is on the frame under front passenger seat.
I am thinking of installing the fuel filter; and an electric
fuel pump and fuel filter inline, in the engine compartment where I can replace it easily. If I happen to in a foot of red mud when the fuel pump in the tank fails, I could turn a manual switch, direct fuel through the new fuel filter and electric fuel pump, and get going. A clogged fuel filter or fuel pump failure is the same difference.
Also if you had cutouts on backup, tail, brake and inside lights you could leave town at oh dark thirty without attracting atttention.
Heironymus here .... heh heh it rhymes
Book Of Eli is a good movie. Perfect? No, but very good. I recommend it. I see about 1-2 movies a year, when some friend treats. I also saw 2012, avoid that POS.
The scene with the house out on the prairie, where the old couple are, the old gal playing the old record of the song "Ring My Bell", is that initial scene of the house an imitation of a painting, by Edward Hopper I believe?
The movie is quite good. "Peaches! Can't ye read??"
The lizards running the IMF have their eyes on the next collapsing country to suck dry - us. If a country's debt gets to 90% of GDP, then the country can't grow itself out of debt (and this is calculated for good times) and "austerity" measures are in order. What meaningful austerity measures could come into place in the US, a country where 90% of us are on our own austerity measures? Where are the veins near the surface for easy tapping? I'm thinking more gas taxes, jack up the costs of owning and operating a motor vehicle in general - Americans will deny the baby milk before denying the Chevy gas, it's been set up that way. Pensions are another fat nut. Tax foods but most importantly, tax "fun" foods like chips, soda, alcohol. Maybe ramp up drug addiction (heroin's been making a quiet comeback) and have those profits feed back to the IMF. And so on.
Makes a person want to hole up in a junk trailer on junk land.
I enjoyed Eli as well, and never expect a movie to be 'realistic' in terms of post-apoc. Maybe the that movie "the Crazies" is more how it will go down eh? But I have to disagree Blago has the best hair ever, its so surreal, it looks like it must be fake--but isn't he's like the Brooke Shields of Phony Politicians.
The best days of my life were in a trailer, we played board games and the family was still together, at pretty well and didn't worry about much, now that life is one big anxiety-fest if you open your eyes too often.
It is definately time to live below the radar. Junk land is looking better all the time.
Bison, you're comment section yesterday had more than 5% females. As scary as it sounds, maybe you're entering the mainstream.
You might start giving Rawles the run for his money. Plus you have waaaaay better looking hair.

Mr. Bison, today is a happy day for you and I. Ordered a grain grinder from amazon, I hunted down a link you had to the grizzly grinder so you'll get your commission.
I also mail ordered my first 35lbs of wheat. Tried the local feed store but they didn't have wheat, only wheat bran/corn mix in a dirty looking paper bag. They thought I was strange and I beat a hasty retreat before they asked me too many questions about what I wanted it for.
Have you tried to grow your own wheat? I'm going to try growing a small patch in the backyard for fun. Watching grass grow is my type of entertainment.

Well Anon 9:37, so much for the land of the free. Here in England under English law, someone pays your debt ie buys it, I being the debtor has my debt paid in full.
What this means in practice is that American companies like Global Arrow LLC who have recently had their arse handed to them on a plate for buying English debt and applying charges then sending round the heavys to intimidate people.
The first question to ask is "Have you bought this debt?" They answer "yes", You then say "In that case my debt with company X has been paid in full, I have no contract with you, oh and thanks very much as the demands from company X were becoming quite a pain. Would you mind awfully closing the gate on your way out theirs a good chap".
They then say "We'll see you in court", and you reply "Oh good see you there" as they haven't a leg to stand on.
As American law is based on English law, and this law goes back 100s of years, the same law could apply on your side of the pond. Worth looking into.
O great lord Bison. Another great post. Read you every day and hope to get my yuppie SUV driving wife to start reading you....
HEADS UP!!!
John Melvin Davis, aka 'GunKid', BOP# 84034-012 will be released from the Forrest City FCI in Arkansas on October 26, 2010
Trying to get the word out early---cause you know he is gonna be all over your blog like a debarked chihuahua on kibble...
O' Ye' of little faith! Haven't you heard, were in the "summer of recovery"!
I for one, am sure glad the "economic down turn" is behind us!
I recon by next week us peasants will be dancing in the streets!
In fact I'm jumping for joy as I type!!!
Maybe the theme the movie is simply, God is still in charge. Maybe despite all our stupidity, greed, and hatred he still loves and cares for us. Maybe its about hope, faithfulness, kindness, courage, devotion, or determination. But what do I know I'm the dumbass that thinks you are way ahead of your time.

Greetings Oh Ye of Good Hair,
Great post on the Third World States. I laughed so hard at your writing that I spit tea all over my keyboard. Now, because of you, I have a (self-imposed) ban on drinking anything while reading your blog. Just wanted to let you and your loyal minions know that I have found a great stress reducer. Whenever the daily news gets my blood boiling I follow a simple three step plan. 1-Take three slow deep breaths. 2-Turn off the tv, radio or whatever stress source. 3-Immediately go to store and purchase one more box of ammo.(usually .22 because it's cheap)
This calms me, lowers blood pressure and has the added benefit of increasing my preps and at a low cost. Try it! Sincerely, a loyal minion.
