ENTERTAINING NUT JOB
Last night was the first night with a true testing out of the deluxe Bison Solar Heater (
SmartPool SunHeater for Above Ground Pools
). It wasn’t really a fair test, as we had unseasonably warm weather ( setting a record for the last thirty years ), but the water was scalding hot and had to have cold added to it before I could bathe. The remainder went into the thermos and was hot enough three hours later for washing dishes. Also last night, I watched the newly arrived DVD, “Collapse”(
Collapse
), based on Ruppert’s book. Well, that was my thought upon ordering it. Overall, it was a hatchet job. Do NOT buy this DVD. Buy the guys book (
Confronting Collapse: The Crisis of Energy and Money in a Post Peak Oil World
) for the same money. It contains ten times the information and isn’t someone else’s attempt at portraying the author as a crazy ass bastard, full of rage and emotion. Of course the guy is emotional. He’s been publishing for thirty years about how corrupt our system is (
Crossing the Rubicon: The Decline of the American Empire at the End of the Age of Oil
) (
The Truth and Lies of 9-11 )

and by and large is being ignored. That gets old after awhile. And who cares if he is crazy. His information is accurate. No genius is recognized in his own time. Just look at me.
*
Last weekend I tried to read “Power Hungry” by Robert Bryce (
Power Hungry: The Myths of "Green" Energy and the Real Fuels of the Future
). I read most of it but was able to skip a lot and still get enough information. His basic premise was that alternate energy is not enough power and he proposes natural gas, then nuclear, rather than wind and solar. As illustration, he points to a small obscure coal mine back east. The thirty-fifth largest in the country. And in terms of BTU’s it produces almost as much energy as ALL the solar (
Sunforce 50044 60-Watt Solar Charging Kit
) and wind (
Sunforce 44444 12-Volt 400-Watt Wind Generator
) in the country combined. He is correct there. But grossly inaccurate in his rosy future plan. He thinks that since the new technique of fracking has proved successful in Texas and the NY state area it will translate into a proverbial sea of gas wherever we look. No facts support this. He also totally ignores Peak Uranium. And his answer to Peak Oil (
Hubbert's Peak: The Impending World Oil Shortage (New Edition)
)? He claims that we are finding more petroleum all the time, the transition to gas and nuclear is to reduce emissions. Yes, we are finding more oil all the time, Captain Space Cadet (
Danger in Deep Space (Tom Corbett Space Cadet)
). But we’ve been using far more than we find, for decades now. He ignores that part also. Another idiot to the rescue.
*
During World War Two, the military and government were pretty forthright asking for cooperation from people and industries to help them in their propaganda efforts. It was for “the war effort”(
Nim and the War Effort (Sunburst Book)
). We had to boost morale, so it was okay to paint things in the best light. I’d say by and large it was mostly positive rather than evil, with a few exceptions such as the false portrayal of Pearl Harbor as such a surprise. FDR, everybody’s hero ( ooooh, ahhhh, he is our hero since he turned the free enterprise system into a Commie Light state and employed us all in the military or war industry ), was the idiot that stole all the gold by force and devalued the dollar overnight 40% and the great unwashed idiot masses worshiped him. The same puke that was the bankers whore. Yes, geniuses, he tried to get us into the war because he was told to. And he had to goad the Japanese or Nazis to attack us. The details are unimportant. After the war, secrecy was more important. Now propaganda (
Propaganda
) is harder to prove or spot. But it never stopped, our masters brainwashing us for our own good. Part of that campaign is to discount any warning that exponential growth will lead to disaster and collapse ( keep the sheep content until they fall off the cliff ). Prophets of doom have been discredited as part of the propaganda.
*
So what do you do? Forbid any warnings? No, you encourage them. Publish any crazy bastard that screams the sky is falling (
The Sky is Falling
). Make hundreds of movies about the end of the world ( preferably with giant ants or zombies ). Overexpose everyone to a mind numbing amount of doom and gloom. Then, it is automatically looked upon with distrust and scorn. When the papers scream of eminent death and destruction by crack babies growing up to be super criminals or chemicals from industry killing us all, or whatever, you stop believing the bad news. Then, when they publish nothing but feel good entertainment instead of real news, it is easy to go along. You saw for yourself that nothing too god awful bad happened. All is well. Remain calm. But, you proclaim, I’m different. I’m concerned.
*
No, you are just like the guy that ignores the products on TV commercials but is still a consumer. You don’t think all is well, but you also think little baby steps in preps are going to solve the problem. You don’t think the ass will fall out of society. You think a few weeks of food and a gun will see you through. This is where I admire Rawles (
Patriots: A Novel of Survival in the Coming Collapse
)( he pisses me off with the long term slow collapse crap, but two sects of the same religion always disagree the worst over the small details ). He tells you to prep for multi-generational collapse. Since everyone listens to him rather than me, at least the word is getting out. Expect a long collapse. We disagree when it will get here, or how, but at least we agree it will be a bitch once it happens. You see, the propaganda HAS worked on you. You think you are courageous by stepping away from the herd by worrying about the future, but you don’t step too far out of line. You continue consuming, so those in power could care less why you are doing it. I’m not trying to be an ass here. To a good degree I am just as guilty. A foot in each world and hope your timing isn’t off. What I’m trying to say is that some crazy bastard out there is correct about how things end. By discounting his message we endanger our own lives.
*
I know I tell you to have fun with the collapse (
Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed
). By all means, let’s enjoy ourselves, have a few laughs. Be entertained by my paranoid ramblings. Just keep in mind that you still need to assume the worst and plan on that assumption. Do not be lulled into complacency just because the center has held so far. A growing population meeting declining resources equals die-off. Period. The details are unavailable, but that is the hard reality in broad form. On the remote chance things hold together until after your death, you can leave your preps to your heirs. It will be worth a lot more than money or stocks. Fight the propaganda!

James,
Post some pictures of your deluxe Bison Solar Heater. I'm not quite understanding it.
Also, given the fact that you haul in your water, what do you store it in? Do you just keep 1 gallon jugs lying around or do you consolidate it in a 55 gallon barrel?
I was also a little disappointed in the movie "Collapse". Maybe I was just expecting to much based on his books. It was probably a good movie if your just waking up to Peak Oil. But I find his solutions a little optimistic on the "people working together" front.
His new website CollapseNet.com is all about people connecting up to build "life boats" and learn of sustainable living. I agree that people need to be prepared. However, I don't have much faith in people. When there is only 1 slice of bread left, do you really think people will be thinking of others?

Alrighty; this post oils my hair and makes it shine;
Ya see I WANT to follow the Bison path and consider it the most valid. However that's a cold and lonely life being a cantankerous desert[?]hermit and there wouldn't be a lotta people's trash to pick for my amusement projects.
I get along with my biological family and they will work to keep me happy. So I'll keep doing the prep/sur--ley mode on the 1824 ex dairy farm 7 acres, recreating and laying aside "dumb" stuff in case anybody can use it when I'm gone. The drawback being only that they gotta deal with it...tsk tsk tsk T.S.---call the auction guys.
At 62 and my given health [not bad] sudden collapse is such a crap shoot with bad odds anyway and I really can't cut the tough times anymore. So just kindly point the way to the ice floe and I'll get out of your way. I'm taking the tequila and/or wild turkey with me tho'. I May die from cold; wet and lonely; but I won't give a poop.
C--just working the odds--57
What is the point of preaching to the masses that life as we know it will come to an end? Who benefits from having others prepare? It doesn't matter what resource you are talking about, they all have a finite life so to speak. If everyone prepared as you suggest, then all we are doing is prolonging the inevitable. Life support for comatose Grandma. This is the fundamental problem with trying to alert others. You should be selling the hoax not exposing it.
Can't wait to see if that Australian movie TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN will make it to video and be sold here. Supposedly an Australian 'Red Dawn' movie, the trailer looks pretty interesting. Here is a link to the trailer.

Looks better than THE ROAD.
WOW. So THAT'S why Ruppert was able to get onto so many movie screens. The movie was made to discredit him! It was made to discredit the prepper movement. Well, this time the joke's on them because satire and irony are dead in the Godly Empire, I'd say 99% of us who saw the flick just saw Ruppert being Ruppert, and agree with his message. For once the American inability to understand satire, innuendo, irony, or just plain humor in general, has worked for us.
Those who tread beyond the Ernie and Bert and Big Bird level of message in the US, treads at their peril. Speak AGAINST racism on most Internet discussion boards, and you're sure to get banned, for racism. Call the Tea Party movement's followers "teabaggers" and be prepared to have more than one little old lady tell you proudly that she's a teabagger. Sing a song against Reagan type policies called "Born In The USA" and be prepared to see Reagan himself use it in his campaign. Same goes for the Beastie Boys' "You Got To Fight, For Your Right, To Party" song, anti-jock, became a jock anthem.
Folks, Bison is right. Just buy the book.
"the great unwashed idiot masses worshiped" FDR!!?
They still worship him. He is right down there with Lincoln for being an over-rated increaser of government power.
I have to agree with Anonymous 9:38. What motivates you to keep trying to wake people up?
This may sound harsh, but personally I'm done trying to tell people anything. They just think you're crazy, so why bother. If the people are clueless, it is probably kinder to let them go into the stewpot not knowing what's happening. "Look here, gramps, we got a nice hot bath over the fire for you."
I talk to my friends who are on the same page. But, frankly, you either believe (and I mean truly believe) and are spending all your time, money and effort on what's coming or you don't. It really does remind me of Atlas Shrugged. The ones in the know are getting prepared and leaving the rest of the people to lie in the bed they made.
Not that you should stop your blog. How else could we keep updated on your glamorous hair.

Agree with the other poster. Tell us more, about the Bison Super Heater? I've let my gym membership die and now I warsh up at home, In this hot weather, hose set on sprinkle standing on my "porch" (a pallet) is fine, while the neighbors could concieveably get a look, they never look over this way so that's not a problem. But cold water sux in the cool/cold times of the year. And a good heater will work even in overcast.
So, put that .303 and the Natty Ice down and tell us about your superheater. Maybe cite the article or wherever you got the plans from, or adapted the plans from.
PS - if you have to shower with cold water, the old Vienna sausage can dipper isn't the way to go. Sudden dousing with cold water makes me gasp every time. But if you have a light little spray, then even though it's cold it's not shocking. This sounds like a minor thing but it's really not.
I, too, would like to see some pics of this solar heater Bison-O-deluxe. For all we know you could be living it up in the high roller suite of the MGM Grand feasting on Dom and hookers with your Amazon loot. Some people have a gift for storytelling and I would hate to sell the rest of my possessions, kick the high maintenance arm-candy to the curb, and live an existence that makes the Unabomber look like high society only to find out that the joke is on me. My water heater was made from scrap pvc, a junked water heater, and a broken aquarium. Add a little glue, some fittings and two cans of flat black paint...presto, water you can almost cook with. That is just for the camp.
Neighbor's pool has something that looks very similar to that solar heater. He runs a 12v pump off of a 12v battery/small 5w panel to circulate it through the pool. He claims he has the same thing up at his trailer on the lake that uses a old hot water heater as a holding tank then at night pumps it through baseboard radiant heating to warm the main room, claims he is running antifreeze in it so it doesn't freeze in sub-zero weather. I don't believe him.
With 6.8 Billion Hominids running around the Planet, and say 99% die off in the first couple of years of the Big Crash, that leaves about 70 million who were prepared AND lucky enough to make it ("ooops forgot to tell you, that chlorine gas cloud from the derailed train hasn't dissipated yet, so sorry you died trying to get across the valley, old chum"). But trying to get the 99% to wake the Frak Up! and get their act together is just an exercise in Futility. One's time would be better spent grinding wheat rather than trying to convince a Sheeple at the Starbucks why they should Prep. The hell with them. Probably just drive up the price of wheat anyway.
"A foot in each world and hope that your timing isn't off" -well said.
You're gifted at putting things succinctly.
I would like to point out, Oh master of the incredible hair, that we are ALREADY IN THE DIE OFF STAGE.
yes it is true.
they arent even trying to hide it.
population GROWTH is NEGATIVE in almost every first world nation, and is declining significantly in all most every other nation.
When does the ball stop accelerating upwards? at the apex when it begins to fall.
Simple demographics has most of the world dieing of old age in another 30 or so years, IF THEY ALL LIVE TO THE CURRENT MAX expected life expectancy, since there will NOT be enough young people to service all the old folks that max life expectancy will decline steeply. I expect the phrase will be 'if their hair is grey, underground soon it will lay'.
It is actually not a bad fit with our declining infrastructure and resources....
Of course old people have a LOT of experience and knowledge that will be lost as this occures.
--- the grey
Don't dispare, oh loved minions, pictures of solar heater will be posted soon. Don't get too excited, it's Mason jars under glass. But I love you share all that is ME.
Grey------I love and trust the feds. sooooo much.
According to the US census bucrats site the US and world pop "clocks" are still moving positive.
Gains in both.
Richer country lower birth rate and such no aurgument.
Some thinkers note china's change in "let'em leave" policy... is to simply make room.
I Haven't checked the demographic age data.
I'm not augur-uing with you. but the growth/die off thing is a concern of mine. From whenceforth cometh your info/data?
C-bad data; sit data, sit!-57
