It suddenly occurred to me that my one of a kind, super duper deluxe wonderful hair served another purpose besides its current function of driving the ladies mad, striking jealousy into the hearts of men, inciting herds of animals into stampeding and in general making life a much better place for everyone ( you are welcome ). ). Now, normally, you have to be young and famous to do that, but in my case, as streaks of grey decorate my skull, I just look better and better as I age. So, as I am destined for the stew pot, my severed head will be given abnormal reverence and attention. The shrunken head I leave behind will be well preserved, as a thing of beauty. It’s nice to know I can still help other people after I’m gone.*
I wasn’t sure of a name that conjured up Jewishness. For a German, you say “Hans” and it is pretty obvious the culture he belongs to. “Sergey” could only be Russian. You get the idea. But I wanted to rehash the idea of fleeing an oppressive regime while you could and I needed a catchy title to conjure up the necessary mental image. ) played a Jew in a movie with Jacob so I went with that. Rightly or not, we use the example of Jews not fleeing the Nazis to underline the need to get the heck out of Dodge while you can. Well, me and you use the example. I don’t know about the Yuppie scum. They probably thought the Jews had a bug out bag stashed in a SUV and would get out just in time. Oy, vey! What, me worry? I’ll get out in plenty of time, here I’m making so much of the money! Get away with you, you worry too much! ( by the way, in case you missed the sarcasm, I was not speaking highly of those staying in dangerous cities because of good paying jobs ). ) thing. I have no doubt the Jews went up in flames at concentration camps ( I’ll reserve judgment on whether the numbers were too high for propaganda reasons ). What I question is the reasons given. The Nazi’s hated Jews and wanted to kill them all ( it was just politics-all governments need an enemy- we have the Muslims ). I don’t doubt that, but I believe that the Germans were too aware of their resource shortage problem ( they didn’t invade the Soviet Union so much because they feared the commies as they needed the commie oil to wage a longer war-yes, the second front was a reason, but keep in mind that WWII was about oil ultimately for all nations ) to waste transportation on Jews and fuel to cremate them. They needed free labor for the war effort, underfed the bodies and then replaced them. That paid for the resources used. Use common sense and stop believing everything your fifth grade teacher told you.*
Germany is something like the size of Oregon. It is easier for them to be completely dependent on rail for transportation. Easier to cluster housing. Easier to implement transition to alternate energy sources like windmills. And easier for the whole population to be kept track of, rounded up, controlled. Our country, by contrast, is a huge place. So huge that if we hadn’t had the excess petroleum reserves we did, vast areas would still be useless desert. ) droid aircraft hunting us down in the wilderness if we fled civilization. While true that sometimes you can hide in an urban area, also keep in mind the mixed performance of unmanned vehicles in Afghanistan and the Mexican border. The results are given to imply constant success, but if you think about the insurgency still being waged and the drugs still being smuggled, obviously plenty of people AREN’T caught by the planes. And the more unrest we see, the more that oil is in short supply and the more the grid goes down, the better your odds against the high tech craft. ) to play at their game. *
Also, in case you missed it, the US dollar is on the down slope of global dominance ( The Dynamics of Global Dominance: European Overseas Empires, 1415-1980
). If you rely on a pension to pay you while overseas, you are gambling on being cut off with no resources. If you go elsewhere to work, you invite the hostility of foreigners against American Empire ( American Empire Before the Fall
). I see little upside in leaving this country. You can prep here on minimum wage, and I doubt that can be replicated elsewhere due to everyplace else being less consumer orientated. If problems arise, you can hide anywhere you choose. You can camouflage yourself easily here, you stick out like a sore thumb elsewhere. Plus, we have no idea who the new Jews will be in the future here. The rich? Republicans? Pro-Constitutionalists? Non-Protestants? It is kind of hard to pinpoint the next persecuted group because all of us are turned against each other. I don’t help matters myself, trying to bait seniors, yuppies, independent women, whoever pissed me off this week. We are all played against each other to deflect blame on The Powers That Be. And gladly fall into the trap because, let’s face it, everyone else is an asshat.*
Yes, by all means escape target rich environments such as heavily populated areas, areas directly downwind on nuke plants ( awesome article at Rawles on the spend fuel storage areas being the weak link ), coastal areas ( just in case Monkeyman Gore is right ) or whatever. But there are plenty of better places awaiting you here in this country. Safety outside is a fantasy. It is inside also, but here you have a lifetime of learning the pitfalls to add to your chances of survival. Plus safety nets that will last a little bit as far as family, welfare, etc. Nothing is ideal, and dreams can easily turn to nightmares. Better the enemy you know than the one you don’t. We aren’t Jews. We don’t have a freer place to go with a decent economy that welcomes immigrants.

I often wonder at the perverse pleasure yuppie survivalist have at being refugees. Most survivalist articles seem to be about bug out bags, bug out vehicles, moving to another country, etc. I really don't understand what the allure is to this. Is it too many beer-sodden college nights of Monty Python (run away, run away)?
If you don't feel safe where you are at, MOVE NOW! Do you really think when SHTF you'll be welcomed with open arms?

Never attribute to malice what can be explained by sheer stupidity. I honestly have this private (not so private now) theory that the Germans never started out to kill 6 million Jews, things just kind of fell together that way. Let me explain. They were trying to find places to re-settle the Jews, from Madagascar to Palestine to the US to .... well ... anywhere, and I think it caught them somewhat by surprise that in essence, no one wanted them. No one wanted the non-wealthy ones, at least. And the wealthy ones may have been a bit lukewarm about getting their brethren out, it seems. The camps started because they had to be put somewhere, "concentration" added to the name as the camps got more jammed full of poor souls, as it became evident that they couldn't be placed outside of Germany. Typhus, spread by lice, was a constant problem and a constant killer. The Germans' obsession with order and cleanliness even in the otherworldly camp environment, is probably the only reason so many actually survived. Meanwhile all the youngish men and most of the women are working their asses off for their war effort, so let's put the "campers" to work.
Let's not forget that Gypsies, German liberals, feeble-minded, neurotics, etc were all scooped into the camps too. They were all worked and starved, as Germany in general starved.
I'm even going to bring up Zyklon, a commercial bug poison. Great for lice. No one sat at a desk in the 1930s and wrote up a plan for killing people with the stuff, and right up to the end, the gas chambers may have been meant for delousing, not ..... Again, the conditions produced a LOT of bodies, and in the battle against disease, it may have proven adventageous to "jump the gun" on the Grim Reaper, remember lice leave dying bodies like rats leaving a sinking ship...
The whole thing looks in retrospect like an evil diabolical plan, but instead I see it as a series of short-term solutions that got slapped together into a coherent-looking whole.
All horrible to think about. If that regime were in effect now I'd have been offed long ago.
The importance is, we like to think, "Oh, we could never do a diabolical plan like that", well, consciously, no. But something just sort of falling together. ....?

The Nazis-Germans originally pushed the Jews out the door. But they found that too much currency was leaving with them. So they made leaving the country very expensive as a way to prop up their foreign currency reserves (somehere around 1934): remember they did not want a repeat of Wiemar hyper inflation. So in general, poor Jews had a very hard time leaving the country. By 1938 they were taking all the Jewish property of those who stayed as well.

Russian resources:
The Germans in the short term already had Russia's resources. The Russians were their allies. Remember that they had a non-aggression pact, and agreed on a partition of Poland before the Germans even attacked.
The Russians were selling all the supplies the Germans could pay for, and even Hitler was not foolish enough to believe that conquering Russia to get their supplies would be less expensive. There is some argument as to the German thinking about Britain and the United States. But it is fairly clear that the Germans attacked because they thought they would win, and because it had been their long range goal to some degree even going back to WW1.
Hitlers focus on specific resources (as opposed to general statements about living space, etc) seemed to come in more focus when they failed to knock out the Russians in the first campaign, and had to decide how they were going to keep this ever widening war (now that the US and Japan were involved) going.
I have to say, we have quite a few transplanted US folk here in Australia. And, amazingly,these folks don't seem to trumpet the American Exceptionalism crap that seems to be trotted out on a daily basis in CONUS. They actually actually accept the thought that the US,while it may be a great example for some good things it does in the world, is not THE greatest thing in the world and the country all other countries should emulate; and that they can see the dirt under the polished chrome fenders... ...Gives me hope for the future.
