"Hot Springs"
book review
"Well you thank your fucking lucky stars I didn't decide to wipe your ass on the railway tracks, you got that Tex? Do you get that?"
"Yes sir," said Earl.
Bugsy leaned close. "I killed seventeen men," he said. "How many you killed, you pitiful farmer?"
"Ah, I'd say somewhere between 300 and 350," said Earl.
Bugsy looked at him.
"And see," Earl explained further, here's the funny thing, the boys I killed, they was trying to kill me. They had machine guns and tanks and rifles. The boys you killed was sitting in the park or in the back seat of a car, thinking about the ball game." Then he smiled a little.
At first Bugsy was stunned....

This is a review of the book "Hot Springs" by Stephen Hunter. The above is from pages 72 and 73
Even though it is fiction and is not an "End of the World" book it is still useful for survivalists.
It is a demonstration of attitude.
When the worst happens and everything is collapsing, we will be seeing fear, hopelessness and desperation in the faces around us.
Because of our attempt to prepare, many of us will find ourselves the "de facto" leader of the group. We will have to find calm and confidence within ourselves and try to instill it into the others.
Many battles have been lost because of low morale.
Our struggle after a collapse would be the biggest battle.

I enjoyed the book. If you saw the movie "Shooter", Stephen Hunter also wrote the book ("Point of Impact") the movie was based on. The book is much better than the movie.

Cool - thanks for the review.
Hey Jim, thumbs on the the book you reviewed previously - THE UNIT. I've only got through the 1st 70 pages, and its a pretty good read.
Steven Hunter is a great author. I've read several of his books including POI. He really gets tactical situations, weapons and how to write a page turner.

Stephen Hunter is amazing. I was simply flabbergasted by the first sentence of, "Dirty White Boys". Something to the effect (memory):
"There were three men in MacAlester State Prison that had larger penises than Lamar Pye though, being black, Lamar considered them barely human".
Talk about getting your attention!
