VOTE TO STEAL
Has anyone heard a rumor to the effect that most artificially added fiber is in fact sawdust? I don’t know if this guy was pulling my leg but he claimed he saw it on one of the cable channels, bleached wood in place of bran. I’m sure it wasn’t literally scooping up from the sawmill floor, more than likely a byproduct of paper making or some damn thing. Anyway, if it is true I find the whole thing quite amusing. Sawdust bread was made famous in the siege of Leningrad. Is our food industry now on par with the Chinese, so desperate to find enough profit/available food stock that they are resorting to this? In our case obviously we have no shortage of food, yet. But are profits that hard to come by? In the Chinese case I would imagine there is literally a food shortage, not just greed. At least for a percentage of the population. The middle class eat well, lots of meat and fat. The poor still sucking on a few balls of rice each day? Perhaps all they afford is Haitian Mud Cakes? If this the case you can imagine we will duplicate it one day. Not even Soylent Green (
Soylent Green
) for the homeless living in SUV’s under overpasses.

Today’s article has pretty much no point whatsoever. Just me blowing off steam. Of course you could argue that I do that with most of my writing and few days have any real point. I won’t necessarily argue with you. Most days I stress about the content and try to be somewhat entertaining and enlightening. Even if I fail half the time at least by striving for more than meritocracy perhaps I put out a product that can at least be swallowed rather than outright rejected in a violent projection of stomach content. But today I’m just coming up empty. I’m actually writing this on Thursday’s lunch. Friday is a work holiday ( celebrating Nevada Day, [
Nevada Day, Part 2
] a paid work day here ) and while I have to put in a few hours picking up the slop I don’t necessarily want to stay the extra hour or hour and a half writing Monday’s article. And I just know the weekend will be overcast so I can’t write at home ( the last three or four weekends were all cloudy ). So not only did you get a repeat on Friday, you get crap today. A case of the blahs, winter is setting in, me and the old lady are on the outs again and I ain’t getting any. Work is stressful ( of course, in relation to yours mine is great, but it’s all relative ). So, BLAH! But I know you don’t pay me to feel sorry for myself. More greatness will follow even if in short supply today.

Tomorrow is election day (
Election Day (Rookie Read-About Holidays)
). And thank all the gods because if I have to watch yet another commercial showing the greedy face of political evil too much longer I just might scream. Crook #1 proclaims with a straight face that crook #2 is a worse crook than he/she is so they should get your vote. Crook #2 tells you in the very next commercial that they have just uncovered new information that crook #1 is in fact worse than they first imagined. Who cares who gets elected? I haven’t voted since Billary’s second election. The Libertarian Party (
What It Means to Be a Libertarian
) got a record low vote. After four years of Clinton. After Waco (
The Ashes of Waco: An Investigation
) and Ruby Ridge (
The Federal Siege At Ruby Ridge: In Our Own Words
) and airplane traffic diverted three hours while our Pimpin Redneck In Chief got a $500 haircut. I knew then that the elections were rigged. One of the worse Presidents ever and the only protest party worthy of the name had the fewest votes in almost twenty years? My dimpled pasty white Hank Hill ass. Hanky panky was afoot. The sneaking suspicion that computerized voting made rigging simpler was confirmed. It didn’t take me by surprise when Gore threw the election for cash money ( his global warming circus which paid handsomely ) and the Supreme Court acted in record time settling the matter. So now, my only available act of defiance is to NOT vote, hereby withdrawing my consensus in getting screwed.

Politics almost from the very beginning have been a form of corruption. And I’m talking from long before the last two hundred years. You expect politicians to help themselves to the treasury. I just wish they would stop insulting my intelligence trying to make me believe they are “public servants” (
Simpsons Chief Wiggum Public Servant Keychain
) just trying to help a brother our. Harry Reid (
Harry: Money, Mob & Influence In Harry Reid's Nevada (Volume 1)
) is one of the many things Nevada has to be embarrassed about. Las Vegas, radioactive sand dunes. A long tradition of Basque sheep molestation. But old Harry takes the cake. What a greasy weasel (
Greasy Weasel
). He could care less if you know he is a crook ( outside of a few weeks before the election ). He follows in the fine tradition of Chappaquiddick Kennedy (
Senatorial Privilege: the Chappaquiddick Cover-Up
), looting other states to bribe his voters into reelecting him. Again, this is nothing new. It is just embarrassing that it isn’t hidden out of plain site. But you can’t just blame the politicians. Politicians and whores are an age old profession and both sell themselves. The difference is that going to a prostitute you voluntarily pay for a good time. The politician only returns a good time after stealing your money if you like anal sex. No, the voters are just as much to blame. They want something for nothing, something free. They turn a blind eye to the theft because in their perception they get something of greater value ( not doing the math and realizing that after a century of this the accumulated theft by government is the greater sum- 95% of the Greenback inflated away, anyone? ).
*
If you are voting, you are either trying to change an unchangeable system or you are voting for more socialist bribery. Stop already. You are embarrassing both of us.

If you are so damn smart WHY DONT YOU RUN FOR OFFICE!!
The candidate from Dayton/Elko.
Let see how many votes you'll get.

It was certainly true a while back - Marion Burros covered that in one of her books on cooking from scratch (digs up book). Okay, she covered it in the Washington Post in 1976, and on the Today show later that year. The breads then had 'powdered cellulose' in them.
Breads with fiber from wood pulp have to be labeled "Special Formula breads' because legally they aren't bread due to the wood pulp.
And, yeah, at least at the time she wrote the book I have (1978) there was no info on if wood pulp was 'healthy' fiber. I don't know if any research has been done on it before or since then.
BTW, can I be a minion of both you and the Druid Dude? I'm moving out near him (not on purpose), but I have an 18 month supply of food....

Mr Bison blog person
I figure just go vote for the best "THUG".
To the dip called ANONYMUS (2)
"Ya talkin' to me?
In your dreams you pimply faced wart.
I can totally believe the sawdust story - because sawdust is cellulose (non-digestable - by humans) plant material - which is actually exactly what fiber is too. It's "roughage" that's non-digestable. I think the interesting thing is what's the long term consequences of it? I don't know that. Will you get "microsplinters" Anyway, good article like always. I have a mad scientist experiment for you too. What if you found a way for termites to eat that saw dust, and then grind up the termites and eat them? Or, perhaps we could put the bacteria that eats cellulose into our appendix and we could have a mini-cow stomach? It's an idea. Later, Ken
I choose to be a non voter because I think its all a sham. How could you consider it fair when the minority of votes are cast out, winner take-all? A state with 50 million votes votes 30 million one person, 20 million the other. The person with majority won, but why should those 20 million be thrown away to count for nothing? They should count ALL THE VOTES (One Man - One Vote) and do away with electoral college. Speaking of which - Super delegates. Why in the hell should ANYONES vote count more than one?
Sham, all a sham.
Lord Bison, you know that Baby Jeebus and I both love you but you are incorrect on this one. I vote mostly to cause gridlock in our FUBAR corrupt political system. Having either party in control is a recipe for disaster as you get stuff shoved down your throat like endless wars, bailouts, Obammycare, and the incredible shrinking USA/Zimbabwe dollar. This year I voted straight Rethuglican. If Obammy loses one or both houses of CONgress it will slow (not stop) the reduction to serfdom. That is the best we can hope for. The Quiet Paranoid sez to trust no one and stock more food and fuel. Hail Darwin
Yep sad but true, the first bread with "added fiber" that was pushed big on the market, was found to have WOOD FIBER, now may fiber is fiber, but still, the mental image.... especially when you can eat whole grains etc., and get plenty of fiber.
Fast-forward a good 30+ years and I'm sure anything with added fiber is full of sawmill leavings.
They use wood fiber. It's a white fluffy powder product called "flock." Used to be made in the mill town I grew up in. It's also used in a lot of pet food. Yum, yum.
That's what you get for writing about food additives and something or another about politics: everyone zones in on the food additives.
Upton Sinclair in "The Jungle" pours his heart out on the evils of capitalism of teh day, and all anyone could remember was a couple of lines he wrote about how they made sausage.
It was pretty disturbing how they 'made' sausage in the jungle though! That's a more concrete visualization that the human brain can hold onto---the ethereal nature of "capitalism" doesn't leave us with something to hold onto mentally, its too large an abstraction. Tired brains, fed too much sugar, and too much passive entertainment don't allow for much more than limbic-emotional responses, neocortical responses take up more energy and tire people out.
The wolves run the show, and the sheepdogs quit fighting a long time ago, now the sheepdog types just vent on the internet and live lives of quiet desperation. We live in a 'matrix' representing the Republic, that apparently was co-opted a long time ago, now the levers of power subjugate the masses, rather than free them, most of the chains come in the form of seemingly harmless activities such as TV that snuff out 36hrs per week+ for the average american Child, adults aren't so much better. Watching the cult of personality types like Beck etc. give people some false sense of 'fighting the system'--what by being angry and buying his book? Yeah, right. Dems/Rep's showed their hand a long time ago--control you for your own good.
Hey Ellen, I was just wondering;
How do you rationalize "My God is alive,He is still in heaven,He still sits on the throne..."
with
"in your dreams you pimply faced wart"
or attacking me personally instead of attacking my article.
You all goody two shoes with your crafts and your cutesy little life. Then you go to survival blogs and vent all your anger and frustration because some reality entered your pathetic life and that "He Abides" stuff just don't cut it anymore.
And for your information you self righteous _____ I can no longer express my love for a woman in a sexual way. I lost the use of the that leg when I lost the use of my left one
You got some mouthy remark to make about that?.I don't ordinarily get personal but you make me sick.
