Wednesday night I noticed a general drop in robustness, Thursday morning I was dragging butt a bit and by Friday morning I tried to drag myself to work with one foot in the grave. I simply wasn’t here other than in spirit. Only my animated corpse shuffled around and mentally I was no where near the place. So Friday I couldn’t get Monday’s article written, and I’m here at 6:45 AM trying to splash together something you might manage to chock down in fifteen minutes. No, I don’t keep any articles in reserve for such contingencies. I work better under time pressure and having article reserves makes you want to be lazy.

While sick, in a few lucid moments, I thought of a few things that you would need to have for general colds and assorted self-treated sicknesses once the corner Walgreens was a gutted zombie ( The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead

This video is a depiction of what could happen in the near future. If this were to happen, are you prepared for it? It’s worth watching to see how fast we can be thrown into poverty and hyperinflation. Food for thought anyway!

Kind Sir, (that means you, Jim) For all your (dis)loyal fans I would like to offer up this plum. Those of us that shoot the 12ga (or 20ga) are sufficiently shocked at the price of shotshells. Even the cheap stuff is giving us all sticker-shock. Well, here is the remedy: Take a double-tube of epoxy (99cents) and after removing the cap off the shotshell, inject the resin into the birdshot, allowing plenty of time to cure/harden. You now have a frangible 'slug' coming out of your barrel at oh say 1100fps. Try this load on some rotted tree stump. You will be impressed. Have fun! (Parental supervision advised) By the way, Happy Holidays to all.

"Sugar, besides being a non-sickness dietary treat, will give you easily digested calories when you can’t eat regular food. Also used with salt to make your own Gatorade type re-hydration drink."
Sugar and honey also double as an antiseptic Jim.
Good idea on that SG slug - $1 stores have them tubes 6 for $1, thats 6 slugs out of bird shells - not bad at all.
Might be an idea to buy a few extra boxes of popular shotgun shell gauges of your area. One very common firearm beside 'some .22 rifle is a shotgun, but unless you are a hunter, probably have only a few (if any) shells. Be a good thing to hand out to neighbors for mutual aid - home guard efforts. Be a major favor for them - and you as well. That is, if you trust them.
Hail Lord Bison .... OK formalities taken care of ... I believe I had a bit of the pig flu last year, and the notable symptom at first was TIREDNESS. I had to RDAG myself along.
I don't recommend pepto unless you have an immediate risk of crapping your pants, and crapping your pants isn't allowed, like at work. Otherwise, all it does it delay the process. You have the shits because your body is trying to flush something out. Instead, try to stay hydrated (gator-ade diluted 1:1 with water and a pinch of salt is good or look up WHO recipes for dystentery).
For C, Pine Needle Tea. Amazing people in the covered-wagon days didn't know this.
Aspirin is indeed cheap, might as well stock up now. Just good old uncoated aspirin. What folks need to educate themselves on is Ibuprofen/Advil/Motrin. That stuff is a much greater risk for stomach damage than aspirin is. Another no-no in my book is Acetomeniphen (sp?) AKA Tylenol. We were all raised thinking it's safe as sunlight, well, it's a suicide drug of choice in England, take a whacking big dose and it's Goodbye, Liver. Yes it's possible to get a whacking big dose in you if you think it's safe as sunlight and just keep eating the things.
So: for fecer/headache etc aspirin, for aches 'n' pains ignore 'em or take a shot of whiskey, for chronic pain learn to "zen" it away (I have a friend who does this) or marijuana is probably the answer. All cheap remedies, and 2 out of 3 you can make yourself.
Sorry to hear about your illness Lord Bison. When I get sick I take Lypospheric Vitamin C. 3 to 4 packets per day will cure damn near anything. Lypospheric C is much more readily absorbed than regular C. It costs about one dollar per dose but is way cheaper than going to a sawbones. Buy online from the Vitamin C Foundation or Liveon labs. for more info on using vitamin C to cure many maladies, checkout Doctoryourself.com and read up on a guy named Frederick Klenner. Klenner discovered that families who drank Bonesett tea during the 1918 flu pandemic had a very high survival rate. Bonesett tea contains 20 or 30 grams of vitamin C per 8 ounce cup. Would this make a good guest article?
Hail Darwin
At breakfast and bedtime take one teaspoon each cayenne, cinnamon and honey in water. Shake well. Chase it with plain water. At bed time you may wish to add an ounce or two whiskey. It works for me. :-)

Have you or any readers used Oscillococcinum? I read about it yesterday and found it at Amazon and vitacost.com. Supposed to provide relief of cold and flu symptoms and help with that "run-down" feeling.
Like the DIY slugs.
My favorite cold remedy is my mom's: 1 1/2 oz. whiskey, juice of 1/2 lemon, in 1 cup hot water. You feel Much better in moments! However 3 of them makes you feel like crap the next day!
CocaCola has always worked for me.
The kind with Cafiene and not diet.
For those that pamper themselves with Gatorade unlike the freeze dried water that Lord Bison uses consider try buying it at cw-usa.com. We buy the 1 gallon pouches of powder in a case (which has a long shelf life) and with shipping it works out to ~$1.80/gallon if you watch for the coupons you can save another $0.20/gallon.
