Review: Category 7
by Bill Evans and Marianna Jameson
A weather related SHTF book. On one side side is the U.S. government using HAARP. On the other side is a disgruntled former government scientist who has a superior weather control device. He has a grudge against the president and is creating and steering a category 7 hurricane towards New York.
The book is about what you would expect from a weatherman (meteorologist).
There were some noteworthy items in the book:
Operation POPEYE, a military weather operation against North Vietnam beginning in 1967. It resulted in the monsoon season being extended 30 to 45 days.
Project STORMFURY (1962-1983) and CIRRUS (1947)
The LONG ISLAND EXPRESS 1938, the most powerful, deadliest, and costliest major hurricane to hit the north east coast in history. The winds were so powerful they caused the Empire State Building to sway. Hog Island was wiped off the map.
Historically a major hurricane hits the northeast with regularity about every seventy years. So it's due anytime now.
The most interesting sentence in the book is found in the authors notes on page xii:
"When asked, the overwhelming majority of city residents responded that they would take shelter in the NYC subway in the event of a hurricane."
The subway? Well, I guess lemmings will always be lemmings.
Overall the book is just average. There are lots of better SHTF books to read.
