Night Vision

I recently had a Birthday and my sweet wife bought me,among other things , a Night Vision Monocular. Yes, I know how blessed I am. Turns out she bought me a 5x with Russian optics.It was reasonably priced considering what these things go for.

field of view= 39ft. at a distance of 200 feet.11 degree angle

Infrared =IR field of Illumination is 35ft diameter at 100ft (10 degree projection angle)

power

supply =CR-123/3-volt lithium battery

weight = 16 oz.

dimensions= 7.75x 3.79x 2.48

You can see in TOTAL DARKNESS! I can (if I have a clear field of vision) see you light a cigarette 5 miles away( possible in the desert) on a moonless night. You can cup your smoke and the glow caused by the inhale will be discernible. On a quarter or half moon night , there is enough ambient light to see fairly well with the infrared turned off.

Aside from wildlife observation, boating, camping, and security, I'm sure all of you can see additional uses for this instrument. Other than gen3 and 4 devices a gen 1 can give you all you need in a device of this kind. Since 3 and 4's are military applications and are heavily protected they cost you an arm and leg. Mine has glass optics,DON"T DROP IT! Mine is used in a relatively stationery environment so banging it up isn't an issue.

How it works. Magic! No seriously, light coming into the device is focused onto a intensifier tube. The intensifier contains a photocathode which converts light into electrons.

A high voltage supply converts 3volts into 17 kilovolts. the higher voltage hurls the electrons at a phosphorous screen. The phosphorous screen illuminates with an image when struck with electrons. A optic focuses the screen image to your eye.(explanation simplified).

I highly recommend this product if you can squeeze it into your budget. It comes with a one wear warranty, a good instruction manual, and a nice carrying case. Look up Night Owl Optics and see if you can figure out a way to buy it from Amazon so Bison gets a cut.
