MORE ON YUPPIE SCUM


Here I was listening to NPR on the radio at work Friday, against all Bison regulations and common sense ( you can’t allow your mind to wander for the lunchtime article if a bunch of commie clowns are blathering in your ear about who supports their wonderful efforts at spreading official propaganda- seriously! They call their crap commercial free because the announcer reads the advertisement instead of an agency paid actor. Why, that certainly makes it alright ) and some fool fem was reviewing the recent movie Suckerpunch and throwing in Red Riding Hood and vampire movies. To whit, vampire dude bites young luscious female in the prime of breeding season and she lives forever, hence this lesson is teaching young ladies that you should fall in love as a young teen, marry and live happily ever after. The reviewer isn’t opposed to this fantasy but thinks it is unrealistic and might lead to impossible expectations. Of course she misses the main point. Hollywood gets it spot on sometimes, by design or by accident, by tapping into the subconscious of the masses. Smokey And The Bandit and Cannonball Run ( and more such as Convoy ) were popular in the 70’s/80’s because facing the prospect of running out of oil we embraced an earlier era where the car was king. Today, I’d wager that young fems aren’t as stupid as assumed and subconsciously yearn for a traditional, historic, time tested life long commitment. The FemiNazi, Butch-cut, carpet lapping, plastic over organic loving, mutant scum that embrace “non-traditional” lifestyles can caper on all they desire about overthrowing the empirical tyranny of the male dominance system but the plain fact is that a cultural trait doesn’t continue tens of thousands of years without survival value. The nuclear family is normal, as is the multigenerational household. And while outlawing divorce might have a few downfalls like an abusive spouse ( hello! Go Bobbit on him, go Farah on his bed ) for the majority it is beneficial and serves a purpose. When the surplus oil is gone, so is the welfare state. So the family is all that can pull your fat out of the fire. And the tribe defends the family. This crap is elementary, people.

On occasion there is a comment pointing out something that was particularly lame and or stupid over at the Rawles site. Now, I’ve done my share of bashing. Semi-autos being hailed as salvation make my scrotal sack retract into my body cavity. Freeze dried foods start my anal orifice bleeding. And saving nickels, which require smelting to utilize the copper, is on par with concrete bunker retreats for practicality. But, I try to keep my displeasure in context. Like back in the day when I complained about Stirling’s hatred of firearms without mentioning despite that he is one great storyteller. That was wrong on my part. I’m supposed to be the one getting paid to communicate effectively. So when I bash on Yuppie Survivalism ( Peak Oil is weasel worded by saying “the end of cheap and plentiful oil” rather than “end of oil” and Yuppie Survivalism is defined not as “expensive preps” but rather “less than adequate preps due to the sky high cost of all advice”. You don’t have to MAKE a lot of money to be a Yuppie Survivalist, you just have to try to SPEND it ) I like to explain why. Not only does this give me a way to fill in the required one thousand words, it explains why I come to the conclusions I do. So, today we explore a little bit about why all the advice out there is the way it is. What got me thinking along those lines was the book “Surviving Off-Off Grid”.

That books author picks apart the whole problem with urban consumerist lifestyles. One aspect is that we are pretty much blind to that faulty worldview, seeing it as normal. We see a bunch of trees, not the forest. And this is where Yuppie Survivalists are ( which is probably 97% of the species Americanus Survivalistus ). To them, money is security. So everything money can buy is security for a collapse. If they even genuinely acknowledge that the central bank/oil/factory/specialized worker paradigm can actually ever fail. They either only think in terms of natural disaster disruptions or short term government aid disruptions. To think that all they cherish and relish will forever disappear is unthinkable. Which is one reason that Greer’s Ever-So-Slow collapse is embraced readily. No one has to REALLY give up their dogmatic belief in Uncle Obammy’s Wage Slave And Oil Land Occupation. Things will eventually get worse but no one has to change much other than planting a Victory Garden and take over the family protection from criminals while the local law enforcement force shrinks due to budget restraints. They can all live with that since it is a small adjustment rather than wholesale change.

To think that a strong government would devolve into warring factions fighting for control ( like most of European history or Africa today ), to think that six months after the troubles ammunition won’t once again be available through barter ( of course modern ammo is energy dependent ), to think that you can’t farm all your food from a small backyard and must instead give up your modern house and live in a Yurt while herding, all these things are totally unacceptable to even contemplate. To do so would be to question the absolute rock solid reality of our wealth paradigm. Reality is shifting like quicksand the most preppers refuse to truly accept that. MRE’s and ammo wasting carbines are band-aids to cover that wound. Which will go rancid and turn to gangrene. Because as the oil runs out, everything you did that mimicked the last few generations quest for security and wealth will turn and bite you on the ass. Interdependence, paper promises, powered tools and petroleum will all be gone. You can’t use the current system to make money to buy insurance if you are only postponing the abandonment of oil based luxury and false security. You must embrace sustainability. Factory packaged foods, plentiful ammunition, urban employment, welfare and government security, none are sustainable. If you insist on living in luxury, insist luxury will shortly return, you aren’t really coming to accept the end of oil.

Looked at this way, a lot of the teaching and practices of Yuppie Survivailsm make perfect sense. Cover up that nasty sore and it will surely go away! No need to panic, move along, all is well. My industrial plastic rifle and my irradiated soy meat are all I need to feel secure!
