collapse tool

COLLAPSE TOOL

If you were to mosey on over to the 5-10-11 posting from Ure over at Urban Survival, http://urbansurvival.com/week.htm you would find yet another timely warning over future grain supplies. Simply, all this wet weather is significantly decreasing both planting and sprouting. And not crap we can do without such as asparagus but GRAIN, the staff of life and such ( previously, crop failures in the US saw imported grain take up the shortage, but there ain’t nowhere that isn’t also seeing failures ). You have been warned, and if I hear any whining and bitching about not being able to squeeze $36 from the budget to bucket-up a hundred pounds of wheat I shall soil myself with a bloody discharge. If you can pay Billy-Bob the Banker to live in a sheetrock shack and drive an SUV you can afford storage food. Actually, if you live beyond walking distance from me, go ahead and NOT prepare. Choke on your worthless dollars for all I care. Damn, you buy them books, send them to school ( even if that ain’t all that much fun with your kid being shipped fifty miles away so they can be the only cracker in an all black school, which to me would be a signal to move to a home-school state- nothing against individual oppressed minorities, but as a crowd they can be dangerous- witness the recent white beating from blacks as the black employees cheered it on rather than calling the po-po ) and still they don’t learn a thing.

*

The Cunuck couple that got lost in the hills ( there ain’t much in the way of woods, other than areas of overgrown bushes ) up this way in Elko Nevada has everyone tittering about GPS sucking, or the advice for BOB’s or to stay with the vehicle. My take on it was that Elko is a GREAT place to hide as the world falls apart. Remember that rich pilot that got lost on the other side of the state? The search and rescue to find him uncovered other plane crashes that had happened decades ago. This is a pretty good area to ride out the die-off. I’m so friggin sorry we don’t have lush forests or fertile agricultural land. Which of course would NEVER be a destination of local city folks nearby. Who do you think rode out the collapse of the Roman Empire better, the farmer or the desert nomad? Never mind, go weed your asparagus patch.

*

Because I love all of you unnaturally, I keep doing things to benefit you even though I know better ( see above ). I set my alarm back another twenty minutes so I can actually get something done in the morning before I clock in at work. Today I downloaded the last year and a half of Bison articles, which means if some asshat makes a fuss to Google about politically incorrect content on the blog and the blog gets pulled, I haven’t lost anything. If that ever happens, just remember Bison Press Dot Com. Write the damn thing down. My web site. That is the official home of Bison. This blog is just a distribution channel.

Despite our caterwauling about Peak Oil, man has overreached his energy supply from almost day one. And despite rich whores like Al Gore racing around in fuel wasting jets warning the rest of us to stop using so much energy so he himself doesn’t run out, climate change is nothing new. There is a strong argument that agriculture itself significantly altered the climate ( mass forest clearing, burning the trees ). It seems our species is just like all the rest. Overpopulate, draw down resources, die-off until an equilibrium is reached. We are smart enough to develop tools to kill ourselves more efficiently but clearly not smart enough to see this. Tools are merely mans way of manipulating the energy system. “Catching Fire” by Richard Wrangham says that fire allowed early Homo Erectus to evolve by shrinking the jaw, teeth and intestines. More calories could go towards using the brain ( I’m thinking, if I remember correctly, we use something like 20% of consumed calories to keep our computer running- well, up to a certain point because fat pukes ain’t thinking any extra or they’d stop stuffing in pizza ). With a better running brain we can use more tools. Evidently cooked food allows extra calories to be extracted from food ( explaining the universal craving for hot food even in the tropics, and a good fun filled fact for raw food advocates- although if they are a fruitarian I don’t think this applies ). One great tool is a knife or knife on a stick, as the edge multiplies the force behind it. Draft animals were another great advance. They create human food out of waste plants, allow deserts to be inhabited, or colder area by using their fur/wool. And of course quadruple the area being planted in temperate areas.

*

But fire has always been fundamental. Not only does it make available food perform better calorie wise, you can smelt ore to make much better tools. Or, heat your body in winter which would otherwise take food calories. So fire has been a necessary tool from day one. Which meant that running out of fire, whether from trees or coal or petrol, runs down your civilization. Look at the coming collapse from lack of fire this way. When the forest was all chopped down, ancient civilizations didn’t have enough dung to burn to keep everyone alive. Dung is a lower energy content and if it goes into the fire instead of back into the fields, you start seeing crop failures. The current population was built up dependent on wood energy. Without wood, they collapsed. With 7 billion folks being raised on oil, they can’t survive on solar or wind energy as it has a far lower energy density. We will collapse without enough fire for the current population. We use tools to fill up the place, and collapse is a tool to depopulate us down to sustainability levels again. Slow decline isn’t how Mother Nature gets its overpopulation back under control.

Blogger was down last night, hence less replies to your post yesterday - we couldn't get in.

Got tribe? There are Black, Asian, Jewish, etc people I love, and admire. But as an example, I grew up in Hawaii and while a lil' part Injun and hence olive-skinned, there I'm a "Haole" and a target. I got the hell out as soon as I could. I tried going back in 2003 and I just could not do it. That place is going to go Easter Island and Haole is going to be "the other white meat" in fact there are already t-shirts over there saying that.

You have to be where your tribe is. Some places it comes down to minutae like nose shape, as in the case of the Hutus and Tutsis. When resources get short, people start finding reasons to put each other into groups, and you'd just better be where your group is strong.

My local feed store is finally able to order me some wheat !! Only kind that they can get is soft red.
So I ordered 3 hundred pounds to check it out. Cost will be $15.95 per 50lbs. Total charge. So maybe $20 a bucket total cost with mylar liners. Can't beat that with any Yuppie supply house!

I also read with interest about the couple who were lost in your area.

Have you checked the bison bunker to see if the old man is in there eating your wheat?

Does seem like a wonderful empty area.

If I lived there, I would be burying 5 gallon bucket catches all over the place.

define slow collapse

define fast collapse

some of us have been preparing for a long time....it is a slow collapse.DUH.

if you think it's going to be like 28 days later/zombie attack...

i think you watch too many DVDs.

do you think they are going to announce on CNN Breaking News
America collapsed or something? Everybody is going to go ape shit crazy and raid wal-mart?

all of the sudden people are going to think it's a free for all? get out the guns and go shopping?

TSHTF go out and steal, that's just stupid.telling people to panic is stupid.finding a new problem to worry about everyday is stupid. i think i'll go over to bison and find out how i'm supposed to die today.stupid.

don't need a garden???? STUPID.

your "plan" is flawed. you are not a survivalist.

a survivalist adapts.growing your own food is smart,if you have a garden your dry goods will last a lot longer.if the economy gets worse, you will have fresh food. even if it's a small garden you are learning an important survival skill.

your excuse for not having a garden is lame,"you may have to leave your garden when the SHTF"
well, jimmy boy,you will have to leave your TT and your wheat if TSHTF.

there should be a ten commandments of survival or a DO and DON'T list.

1.OPSEC
2.eat what you store
3.don't leave the house to loot when TSHTF
4.identify your target

and so on

your OPSEC sucks.

everybody in elko knows about you. you have guns stored under the bed. you have silver and cash.everybody knows you ride your bike to work.they could rob you blind when you're at work.it would be funny in a way,you tell people to steal and somebody breaks into your TT.

your Enfield doesn't work close up with multiple attackers.you're living in a fantasy world if you think you're gonny pick 'em off at 300 yards.they will attack at night with fire.you are doomed.

i could go on and on...

Great Lord Bison:

The comments section are getting interesting. Judging from the time of posts, there's a disturbed individual contributing thoughts.

Ahh...heck...maybe their viewpoint might be a tiny bit correct.

But, back on topic.

Excellent article on fire and calories. I'm interested in how cooking food increases calories...my scientific thought on this matter is leaning towards something that cooked food requires less calories for digestion, and as saving these calories that are not used for digestion, you actually end up with more calories to use for metabolism and fat storage. So, in a nutshell, find calories that are nutritional, easy to absorb, and heated, and voila, you have more calories to use for energy/brain/fat storage. Cooking and heating your food eliminates the extra calories your body would need to begin the processing such food. Add sugar, salt, fat, and vitamins, and heat it all up, the calories you save and add to your diet might save your life. To you poor-ass preppers, taking existing calories from waste fuel such as scrap wood, leftover fat, sugar, etc, from food scraps, and getting it nice and tasty and warm, saves your body from expending your own calories and will or just might save your pathetic life.

Or, basically, eating ice cubes is not good calorie-wise. Eating hot cubes of sugar, vitamins, and fat, in yummy form, (think hot dogs with meat chili, no beans, nice and warm, with lots of cheese) gives an immediate boost to keeping you alive.....

Ok, on to the next topic of your longwinded rants (nevermind the fact that they're pretty fuckin' good..but I digress...time to compliment your full locks of hair, etc...)

And on to the big story that hid behind all the previous facade:

You know, it's pretty obvious there is another wave of collapse coming up ahead. You can see it and sniff it now. No scientific degree is needed.

Oh shit you ask, what now???

Simple...they're gonna collapse this whole motherfucker, slowly implode it, while they suck the juice out of it.

What, you ask? And how??

Well, it's a response that deserves it's on post, but hey, here's a tidbit: The euro is going up in smoke, causing our fast falling dollar to rise too fast too soon, and collapsing prices that will drive profit margins to zero and close the landscape of any remaining businesses still in business. (we won't even mention japan, right, as they are toast anyways...)

There..the cat's outta said bag anyways. That should give you enough inspiration for a few more articles if you aren't a gubberment shill anyways..right??

Hey TROLL, sorry to hear that your mommy hid all your video games 'cuz, even after repeated warnings to clean up the disgusting mess of Mcdonald's trash, pizza boxes and sticky socks strewn about your room, you've refused to adhere to basic hygiene practices.

I can only imagine the self-loathing you must experience now that you've realized that this fantasy world that you and every other non-productive DOLT out there lives in is unraveling ever faster and, not only can you do nothing to mitigate this ever-approaching collapse, but you will only survive just a few additional months on your elderly mum's corpse before you reach your inevitable demise.

I feel for ya, buddy. Might as well swallow a bullet now while ya have one.

I too had the same take on the lost Canadians. There seems to be three things that stand in the way of my inevitable move to the Great Basin. Lack of water, trees, and hills. It seems inconceivable that anyone could get lost (maybe a better way to say this would be …. could not be found). Everywhere there is land for sale it looks like Kansas. No place to hide and yet…
I will know the end is near when you actually go out and buy goats!

I've said it before and her goes again; if these guys disagree with your approach what the hell are they doing here? Some keep coming back to bitch over and over. OK, we get it. You think Jim is wrong. Now go the fuck away.

Oh, Bison, you truly are a laff a minute. Honestly, whenever I need a smile, I know I can turn to your blog and you'll make me laff in a way that only abusive, sarcastic father figures can. Thanks!
