KICK IN THE TEETH
Belong to some pestilent crap hole down in
Dixie
that will see a
natural disaster
? Tornado, hurricane, flooding? Want to gamble but don’t have airfare to Las Vegas? Just stay where you are. If you are lucky, something vital to the rest of the nation is located near you, but most likely you will simply be abandoned. I’m not necessarily saying that you will be surrounded by hostile forces and forced to stay and die as happened in Katrina ( with occasional forays of
Blackwater
mercs patrolling inwards to disarm anyone too stubborn to expire ). It could happen. But here is what is most likely to transpire. If you are living near, say, a group of refineries that supply 16% of the nations gasoline, help will be on the way. If you live in an area that used to be a
swamp
, with the nearby Honda plant shuttered from lack of parts, your town will be allowed to revert back to nature. No rebuilding will be done. If you are really unlucky, you can add in radioactive waste from a nearby nuke ( we are way past Peak Plutonium, so don’t expect those monster financial black holes to be rebuilt ), or some kind of other toxic sludge. You might receive a check from the feds, but physical rebuilding won’t happen.
*
Our government can print up money until the
cows come home
. They have no problem letting you relocate to another unaffected area and renting a foreclosed house. They have no problem putting you on Food Stamps. This uses preexisting goods. What they can’t do is rebuild
infrastructure
. Putting up a few extra suburbia’s with dry wall and warped wood is one thing, rebuilding entire towns, railroads, bridges and sewers is quite another. Oh, they’ll have a few Potemkin Villages, eye candy, propaganda sites. But overall, for most folks, the damages will be left to rot. Our nation hasn’t had infrastructure replacement ( merely patching after failure ) for decades. Now, there is a decline in energy and ore and credit and capable insurance companies. What makes you think increased damage will be met with increased help, when just lack of disasters saw no upkeep? A society that can’t maintain what is in place certainly can’t replace what is damaged. I would think this is pretty straight forward, but most likely to acknowledge this reality is to admit our ongoing decline and eventual
collapse
. I think that a lot of folks, while knowing that sometime in the vague future there will be trouble, still expect it to be “business as usual” now. While it is true that we are encaged in BAU ( business as usual ), it means hanging on to the old way of doing business. It does NOT mean we have the resources to fix the problems like we used to. You can’t hope away collapse by pushing away the consequences of contraction into the far future when it is in reality already happening ( in earnest since 2005/2006 ). When a tornado hits you and takes out downtown, hope for assistance. Right now at least you get more fiat currency. But expect a screwing.

The Yankee’s hate Southerners. How dare those impertinent pukes think they can decide their own future? The
Civil War
will never be over. The South will be a target again ( you don’t think a lot of fed policies aren’t designed to rub the South’s nose in grief? ) when resources are starting to become scarce. In the past, a certain amount of investment was put into the region. Because it paid someone in that bygone era of BAU. Military bases weren’t located there to benefit the locals, they were put there because the land was cheap and training could go on year round. And in times of budget cut backs, the bases were closed with nary a whimper. In a way it is good that the locals are abandoned by the feds, left to live without that brand of “help” ( strings attached ) but on the other hand, the racial problems down there can also be traced back to the feds interference in a lot of instances. Plus, as a final insult, after the collapse all those Yankees will come down in an invasion to get away from the northern winters without natural gas or heating oil. Think twice before you relocate there ( locals know how to deal, immigrants won’t be included in that tribal survival plan ).

Okay, this is pretty weird. I occasionally check on my Blogger statistics and the other day I noticed I had two or three readers in Iran. Of all places. They are gone this week. I wonder if a few
CIA
spies were homesick for street crime and social collapse and visited my apple pie writing. I can’t imagine many
survivalist
in that place. Talk about a nuclear glass-over by Israel waiting to happen. Maybe there’s a isolated bunker in the hills somewhere with satellite Internet. Upwind of any city or military target.

A brief add on to my bike only transportation. I think I’ve got enough wheat kernels. I could always rent a car or U-Haul a few times a year and get more, but I don’t see much need to worry about it. I’ll just start buying white flour every week, five pounds at a time ( much easier than transporting a fifty pound sack of wheat ). I don’t think white flour is bad for you, as long as you mix it with whole wheat. Then you are just stretching out the starch. I can stockpile hundreds of pounds of the stuff and be stretching out my kernel supply. And of course, I can bounce back and forth to beans.

Don't overlook renting a truck for the occasional haul. I've done this several times, at about $25 a pop, it is much cheaper than trying to maintain a vehicle. I only need to haul things big enough for a truck a few times a year.
Jim here in alabama its happening now. in the afluent residential areas rebuild is going to take place. In some of the areas close to shopping and comercial areas their wanting to condem so they have low price lands for commercial development and sales tax revenue. some areas refuse any FEMA trailers because it will reduce property taxs. All goverment deptments are looking out for their well being not after the citizens.Oh the talk in sound bites but they all see this as a way to reshape their revenue stream.Banks are puting a few more abandond houses on the market at twice what they were worth 2 months ago.what we have is 5,000 familys with fema houseing money, insurance, food stamps and 50,000 people wanting there share of it spent with them. All disaster aid is economy stimuless most the people will never be home owners again. 15% will never leave the printing press tit was true in katrina is true here now gary in bama

Mr Cool, the chef who takes the animals killed by Mr Zuckerman the Facebook billionaire to the slaughter house, did not explain why he thinks that cutting the throat is the most kind way for the goat to die.
When I killed and processed pigs I shot them in the head,a merciful instant death.
I wonder if Mr Cool would prefer to have his throat cut vice being shot in the head.
Given a choice I would choose to be shot in the head vice hanging by my heels, and having time to relish the experience of having my throat cut and
gushing blood until I lose consciousness.
Which would you choose?
Bison,
Where do you think our government contractors come from? New York City? They are not going to be mowing down their neighbors in Dixie, their mommas would disown them.
Best,
Dan
I'm from SW Missouri,my sister lives north of Joplin. She was in Joplin the day the tornado hit, she's fine.
I have no doubt that the folks in Joplin will rebuild their city. Where else would they go? Life is pretty good in the Ozarks.
I've talked to my brother in Springfield and his church is sending clean up crews, clothing, food and money. They are taking in families.Everybody wants to help. All of the churches are helping. He told me the Red Cross had to turn folks away, they were swamped with blood donors.
In 2007 they had a bad ice storm in Springfield. Some folks went without electricity for over two weeks. My Mom's neighbors all worked together, they shared kerosine heaters, food and made sure the old folks were taken care of.
Folks from Missouri are different than folks from New Orleans. The hillbillies help themselves. Hillbillies don't wait for the gubbermint to help them. They don't loot or bitch and moan about how bad they have it.They do something.
James,I'm sure you mentioned this before.I'll say it again. If you live in a big city shit hole LEAVE.
I'm sure some folks will complain when I say that living in the bible belt has its advantages. Fuck'em. In America there's a thing called freedom of religion. I would rather live with god fearing hillbillies than some tree worshipping twats that think the universe was somehow created from magic space dust. Where did the magic space dust come from Einstein?
Real life. Not some fantasy novel. Shit.Lucifers Hammer? Bullshit. An honest politician with brains, fat chance. The bad guys are Christians.
Lights Out? Vets are the bad guys. A fat short accountant is transformed into a John Wayne Mall Ninja? What a joke.
Christians and Vets are the good guys.
What do you do to mitigate the bug problems in long term wheat or flour storage?
