POTEMKIN VILLAGES


If you Wiki the term Potemkin Villages, you are in for a nice treat. Examples abound in Russia and in the US of authorities hiding nothing good behind a façade of Wonderful Things. Supposedly it started as a myth, fake building to impress the visiting ruler. The Nazi’s used a fake concentration camp to delight and titillate visitors, showing well fed Jew’s engaged in light labor and staging happy plays and such at night. New York under Mayor Koch made abandoned building look occupied and cheerful. Even a Hollywood cowboy town is a Potemkin Village, nothing but false front buildings. Supposedly, at one time vast Soviet stretches of dead trees alongside a railroad or road were painted green. But these are the infamous examples. Today, our wonderful economy is nothing but a huge Potemkin Village. Nothing of substance, but plenty of glitz. Most of our culture is the same way. Nothing is real, it is all fakery and deceit. You must learn to see through the hideous lies or you will be merrily skipping along, going about your business, thinking you have oodles and gobs of time to build up your stores of freeze dried soy turds and the required minimum number of semi-automatic weapons ( five, but if you don’t have at least ten you can’t become indoctrinated as a Rawles Regular, get your decoder ring, or mate with any female rated above five stars ), and you fall off the cliff with the other lemmings, even if you knew you weren’t supposed to. Just look at the danger of radioactivity and the façade hiding it.

Japan has a massive earthquake, and since that kind of thing isn’t swept under the rug the media had to cover it. I hope their ratings and ad revenue didn’t decrease as they stopped covering Dancing With X Factor Chefs for ten minutes. Short version of coverage, far less damage than Three Mile Island, the Japanese economy will be boosted by construction spending. Not covered, the multiple core meltdowns and the total wipe out of the Just In Time Industrial economy. Months later, we learn how bad it was starting to appear ( no one has a lock down on reality seen through the distortion, especially me, a lot must be taken on faith and paranoia ). The thing I found interesting was that days after the accident, big media covered how the sun put out more radiation, or some such story. Now, as soon as the Nebraska nuclear power plant is flooded ( barely reported ), the next day or two sees a story on how almost half of the US nuke plants have radioactive elements or some such leaking into the water tables. Translated, they are saying that if on the off chance there are any radioactive reading from Nebraska, it was there all along and is nothing to worry about. When the American and Canadian monitoring agencies turned off their detectors rather than report doses from Japan, nary a whimper of protest was heard. Because as long as we don’t have bad news rubbed in our face, we can safely ignore it. I don’t know if this is human nature in general, a fatalism because we know we are all doomed, or just a “height of Empire” hubris. If you allow yourself to be included with this blinded crowd, you will suffer more than necessary soon. I understand you can’t do much about radiation fallout from the atmosphere or in the water, other than lock down seclusion, no business as usual. But just by being aware the authorities are lying, at least if you are able to do something you have options.

Look at the most recent Potemkin Village incidence on this blog. Some chowderhead poised as Charlotte claimed to wish to drop everything and move in with me at the Bison Compound. Sure, it would have been nice, but if I had taken it at face value I would have got all excited and allowed hope and happiness to protrude into my life. We simply can’t have that. I’d wager 999 out of a thousand of my minions still live their lives under this cultural bias. The house must be stick built, the toilets flush, the motor vehicle, one or better yet three, bright and shiny. And the job must bring in mega-bucks. Or, you simply aren’t worthy of mating with. Never mind the cars will have no fuel in a few years, the house is unlivable without natural gas heat or gas powered grid power for AC, and the job is one round of layoffs from being gone. Which is why there are few if any Charlottes out there. Money used to equate to security and a future, and to everyone’s mind still does. The façade just be preserved. I understand my few minion females are the exception. You are outnumbered by tens of millions.

Look at all the recent quarter million dollar homes sold the last eight out of ten years. Total crap materials. Not worth much more than ten grand. Warped wood, poorly cured cement, sheet rock and stucco. They look really good, and are built really poor. Look at our economy. Nothing but debt built on wages from paper pushing. No real wealth behind it. Just eating the last of the seed corn built up over three centuries. Look at the politics. Nothing can be fixed, the fundamentals have changed. So appearances are what gets invented, fixed or lied about. Manipulating appearances aren’t just done because of corruption or laziness, but because that is the only thing that can be done. When there is no gas for the car, you can’t run it on wishful thinking or promises, so you just put some of those shiny spinning hubcaps on that roll even while stopped. Ooooh! The car looks like its moving.

I don’t know how much of our altered state of denial is institutional lies and how much is self deceit, or what combination of the two there is, but almost our entire existence is one giant Potemkin Village. To mix myths, down the rabbit hole we go.
