nuke threat

NUKE THREAT

I was hanging around Saturday morning after I had completed my daily digging of The Greatest Grand Newest And Improved Super Deluxe Future Bison Underground Complex And Bunker, drinking coffee and trying to decide what to write about. In fact, it took about an hour to decide, but since I was in no hurry I didn’t mind. Yes, the weekends include rising at the same time, digging, writing and various chores, but it all gets done at a leisurely pace. I’m thumbing through various books, no ideas are coming to mind, and then I pick up “Strategic Relocation”. As I already said, this book, in an earlier edition, was clearly the Rawles Bible. Don’t bother prepping unless you are rich, take all the time in the world, stay away from fallout zones, relocate to a mountain top and farm. I’ve also already pointed out a central flaw here. Take your time prepping to afford all the necessities, but if nuclear conflict is so important a consideration, why wouldn’t that occur at any time, without warning? Let’s ponder the fallacies of our little buddy Joel Skousen’s thinking process.

*

I certainly do not discount this or other works of Skousen as worthless. Even at nearly $40 this book has its uses. Just the fact that it provides an introductory overview of all 50 states, plus foreign countries, makes it valuable to the prepper who knows he has to leave a giant cesspool of an urban area located in the colon of a socialist hell on earth but has no idea where to go ( if you automatically picked Idaho because “everyone knows it is the perfect survival location”, you are a friggin idiot ). But this certainly is far from a survivalists bible. It is merely one of many resources and you shouldn’t give its advice too much credence. It is priceless as an overview, worthless as the final word on relocating. You see, Joel has a fear of nuclear war. Nothing wrong with that. Nobody wants to vomit up their stomach as their hair falls out in clumps. And to him, the nuclear threat is THE paramount consideration in relocating ( it’s right there in black and white, page 33, I’m not just being sarcastic and exaggerating ). Again, nothing wrong with that. We all have our legitimate phobias that compel us to act to mitigate them. All I want to say here is that his fear of nuclear war, while quite legitimate to him, most likely shouldn’t be shared by you because it is based on a false premise.

*

You can have all the irrational fears you want, and believe me, I do, but when you are giving potentially life threatening advice to others, you owe it to your readers to be as clear and rational as possible. Your fears should be explained, so they may be judged as to be worthy of consideration or not. If I fear people because I believe they are evil selfish pricks who will stick me in the stewpot, my desert location makes sense. If you believe people will “just get along”, and are groovy and peaceful and give each other hugs and kisses, then a farm in the middle of a populated area makes sense to you. I explain WHY I don’t farm. If you think I’m full of crap, you disregard my advice. I fully support you for doing so. You have to agree with the basic premise to agree with the strategy. So, do you agree with Skousen that nuclear conflict is inevitable? Don’t say yes just yet. Ask yourself why. Why do you think the Russians or Chinese will nuke us?

*

I don’t discount the possibility of nuclear conflict. It is almost certain. As the oil runs out, and quicker than you think, we will see war. And since war is resource expensive, we most likely won’t see a protracted conventional war ( you know, columns of tanks, squadrons of jet fighters ). What is in stock will be used, but there will not be a huge build up of NEW equipment on the scale of the US in WWII. There is not the petroleum or metal ore available for that. So, outside of a initial huge surge, the fight will quickly fall back to terrorist/insurgent levels ( state sponsored of course ). Nukes serve as a defensive threat against invasion of certain countries ( such as Israel ). They will be handy in a tactical environment, such as glassing over the Saudi Arabia oil infrastructure. But why would nukes be used in a conventional Cold War scenario? Why would Russia nuke us outside of defense? Joel says, because they are commies. That is his reasoning. Commies are evil, commies want to take over the world, commies are still in power in Russia but hiding in plain sight. Are you seriously buying into that? Commie world domination is comic book crap. Super Villain Egghead Perfects The Death Ray To Rule The World.

*

The American Empire took over the world, not the communists. Yes, at first we were benign and righteous for the most part. We had most of the globes gold ( bribes to bail out Europe from WWI and all the bullion FDR-the vilest scum sucking central banker ass licking toad of all time- stole from the citizens ), most of its oil and a lot of ore. Russia was the only other resource rich empire, but communism crippled their economy so that the resources were not anywhere near as efficiently used. Communism made her weak, not strong. And certainly not an evil menace. American Fascists took over the world, the Soviets desperately grabbed a ring of satellite countries as a buffer to protect herself, and ever since the commies were an evil godless threat to Chevrolets, Apple Pies, Mom, and The American Way Of Life. It wasn’t about capitalism verses communism. Those were just the labels. It was merely empire against empire for dominance. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad we won. But you must rationally look at the threat of your rival to protect yourself. You must put aside public consumption propaganda.

*

The Soviets were far from innocent victims of Yankee Imperialism. If they had the means, they would have gladly expanded their empire. But, primarily, their desire to expand, and all their military buildup, was defensive in nature. They feared the Mongol horde and the subjugation by same ( or the French, or German, or whoever the invader was ). The Soviets were mean, and nasty, foul ill tempered brutes. But they were also afraid. They were like a stern, unforgiving parent that allowed his children to be abandoned if they didn’t conform, because the wolves were always at the door and to survive the family needed to be strong, always. The Soviets certainly weren’t saints, but they weren’t the monsters the US portrayed them to be, to suit her own purposes. Which, quite simply, was to economically colonize the globe. And we did a damn fine job, if I do say so myself. Otherwise we really would have collapsed in the early 1970’s as our oil started to run out.

*

So, no, sorry Joel, but the commies will not nuke us, simply because they are commies. They might nuke us IF we attack them. I wouldn’t blame them for that. Nuclear weapons are primarily defensive. Oh, we used them offensively in Japan. If the Cold war had gone Hot, we would have at a minimum used tactical nukes ( baby nukes, battleground weapons, not the city busters ). But strategically, a nuclear arsenal is primarily a “don’t even think about invading our ass” Get Out Of Jail Card. To base your entire relocation plans around the fact that we WILL be nuked because an author took his elementary school propaganda ( used to justify or economic dominance of the globe, exploiting poor countries to get commodities very cheap ) way too seriously is the height of folly. I’m not saying there won’t be nuclear exchanges, or even the classical strike ( you know, big cities, military bases targeted ) in retaliation. I’m saying, commies striking us to dominate the world is bogus. Remember who the aggressor was for 65 years. Compared to our manipulations globally, Chinese backing of North Korea or Russia invading Communist Afghanistan was all minor stuff. We try to overthrow Chavez yet act all butt hurt when China takes over Tibet.

*

If you buy into the argument that the commies will only use a nuke strike defensively, what about smaller threats, or even the likelihood of the US causing a retaliatory strike? Part Two tomorrow.

The Garand is almost as good as a real rifle
http://tinyurl.com/449fcvu

I cannot change Mr Williamson's opinion of the Garand rifle. I could teach him to load without hurting himself, and to catch a partial clip in his hand.
To load...
-lock bolt open
-with edge of right hand against bolt operating handle press a clip down into the receiver.
Allow bolt to come forward an inch or so, then smartly remove right hand and allow bolt to go forward and chamber a round.
To recover a partial clip ....
-with right hand hold bolt open
-place left hand palm down over receiver
-press clip release with left thumb and catch the emerging partial clip in left hand.
To carry safely and discreetly, but ready for use.
-Press down on top round of a clip of seven and allow bolt to close on empty chamber
-Remove barreled action from stock.
-Place rifle in a duffel bag, for example.
It takes only seconds to assemble rifle, cycle the bolt to chamber a round and be ready to defend yourself.

Well Jim, you sure stirred the hornets nest with your article on "American Empire". You're going to have all the vets pissed at you now along with the old foggies and feminist.

For the record, I think you're 100% correct. But people in this country are so brainwashed that we are the best because--now get this--we're Americans by God.

Put all the flag waving propaganda aside and you are right--it is empire against empire.

This is what gets me the maddest about this country, the media and Joe Sixpack. Why hide our Empire ambitions behind the do-good attitude that we are trying to "bring democracy to the world". Forget about all the lies and lets be honest--we like being the top of the food chain. Nothing wrong with that IMHO.

Like you said in your blog entry--stop believing the propaganda and take a good look at your country. Don't get me wrong. I love living in America and I like the fact that we are top dog. I just don't need to justify what we do with "do-gooder" touchy-feely stuff.

I actually think we should just embrace who we are. If we want to take over a country--fine--let our troops do what they need to do. War is messy and it puts our soldiers in harms way by trying to make them be "peace keepers". Warriors make war not peace so let our soldiers do their jobs.

By the way, if you haven't been to North Idaho or even North Central Idaho (not talking about desert Southern Idaho), it really is a survivalist dream.

We don't need to fear the Russians or the Chinese because they are rational, intelligent people. They understand what retaliatory strikes will do to them.

Who we do need to fear are the apocalyptic death-cult members of humanity, AKA the Ragheads. They are building nuclear weapons as we speak thanks to the Dark Lord in the White House, who who thinks that the way to defend an empire is to grope the testicles of it's citizens rather than confront what's going on in clandestine labs in the Middle East.

If "Beans, Bullets and Bison wheat" are cheap insurance, then so is a frugal fallout shelter. Any word on how long before it's safe to put radiation victims into the stewpot?? Will they require less cooking time?

a side note here not related to the post per se... I tremble before the Lord Bison as I put this forward.

Not that I would ever suggest the Lord himself do this, but for his minions.....if you find yourself in a situation requiring the conservation of water, you can knock some off your use in bathing by.....

..... shaving your head....

saves water and soap.....

You are correct about the extremist, and fanatics as large risk factors for nuclear problems. However dont forget that they can be used as cover for the other major players moves.

The US Fed gov. actually has quite a few affordable fallout shelter plans available for free download as does a Dr. Keane/Kerney?(sp?) for his Nuclear War Survival manual.

1) You will need to wait in a fallout shelter with NO outside contamination 2 weeks to 2 months, make certain that you do not stint on the HEPA filter. You may cook the (animal I hope) victims of nuclear contamination as soon as they quit setting off your geiger counter much above background. Diffrent cuts of meat may have diffrent levels of contamination, animals are likely to be more contaminated than plants. The longer you can go on pre-nuke stored and packaged stuff the better off you will be.

2) Such animals will require LONGER cooking time to ensure you don't consume some mutated disease.

The contest between the superpowers was never really a contest, and we knew this at least by the late 1970's. I attended a presentation by a congressman with expertise in the Soviets in 1982, and back then he showed data about the Soviety economy and the ethnic divisions they had to deal with. He said all we needed to do is sit tight and wait for the internal divisions and lack of economic development to doom the Soviet union and it's satellite states.

But instead, the Reagan administration decided to do a huge military build up with borrowed money to speed up the collapse of the Soviet Union. Now look where we are at. After that, we never broke the habit of borrowing money for things we did not really need. But hey, by speeding things up old Ronnie got credit for the collapse happening on his watch instead of one of the next presidents. So, I guess it was all worth it.
