capitalism blues

CAPITALISM BLUES

Well, okay, sure, another swerve off the panic superhighway on to a detour. I don’t necessarily want to make this a regular thing, but it does seem that in light of all the economic meltdown news that anything I say about preps is advice that even if repeated won’t put a fire under your butt if it hasn’t already and also in economic downturns entertainment is more appreciated. Think of this as my escapism article series. Actually, I wanted to do a week to ten days series that I could turn into an e-book. I was thinking perhaps on escaping the rat race for a few hundred bucks. Of course, I’ve covered it before, and my books do drag a bit so I can fluff them out, so I don’t know if I’d lose people here at the blog if I did that. Book sales are only 10% of my income, Amazon links are 80%. But, loving you all like the red headed stepchildren you are, I decided to spare you that drivel and just decided to go with a tie-in to Chevez nationalizing gold.

As they say about capitalism, it is a terrible system but much better than anything else available. As if any of us would know, living in a fascist economy. Well, that isn’t necessarily true. We live in a central bank controlled fascist economy. The government gets its marching orders from the bankers ( he who controls the purse strings… ) and the corporations are only too glad to work with Uncle Sam to get monopoly protection. So, while I’m referring to capitalism I’m just using shorthand for money economy verses command economy. And whatever is good about capitalism, resource rationing is not one of them. Rationing never works well, but neither does pissing it away as fast as the printing presses can churn out the asking price. Chavez has nationalized his oil production ( and a lot of other things, but who cares about that ). The US pissed him off ( might have had something to do with the CIA trying to kill him, proving what a bad sport he is ), so he started selling that oil to China. If he had been a free market capitalist, he would have been pissing and moaning about how he couldn’t stop the oil to The Great Satan. He also bribes the population to stay in power, returning some profits as welfare. Now, look at this rationally. Here in Capitalism Land, one land owner gets rich when oil is found. Then, the oil companies make a profit. Uncle Sugar taxes that, takes the money and fights a war and pays the interest on a loan, and if any is left over, say about 1%, it pays 70% of that sum to a civil servant to administer a complicated and convoluted welfare payment that mostly benefits a corporation ( like free cell phones ). If I was on welfare I’d think I’d get a better cut down in South America.

Putin, who ruled Russia overtly for several terms and now rules covertly through a hand picked puppet successor, took control of his countries energy sector back from Western private oil companies. Sure, he cheated, in effect nationalizing them, but he did benefit his country by doing so. If you were a Russian, wouldn’t you be glad to have your oil back? Russia also recently halted export of its wheat during the drought. In other words, feed our own people first. Here in the US, the grain monopolies and bankers will starve us all to make a profit. Guaranteed. Counting on the future generosity of those whores to feed us is like keeping your money in the bank. In both cases, it is far better to have the item on hand than controlled by rapists and prostitutes. And another point. Venezuela and Russia are ruled by former peasants/workers. Not politicians and lawyers. They grew up with dirtying their hands, and understand realpolitik. They aren’t some spoiled ivy league pansy who has no conception of reality. I’d rather have one of them overseeing my countries future. Now, before you get all stupid on me and complain about dictators and lack of civil rights and private property, do you really think we are any better off today in the former Land Of The Free that we would be in other places? At least there, you can grow your own food without being put in jail. Now, I’m not going anywhere. I still want to live here and I’m glad I do. I don’t want a dictator as a leader. All I am saying is that in a lot of ways, the international bankers controlling our future are less interested in our welfare than a lot of non-African dictators ( Africa has that tribal chaos inside artificial borders legacy from colonialism which will always ensure conflict ) are in their countrymen. They at least lead with the future in mind rather than being in a race to use up all the resources as fast as possible.

*

Heck, look at France. So socialist they might as well be commies, at least they are trying to be energy independent, farming is decentralized for safety, and they recognize that taking care of the lower classes means civil harmony. You can’t just run an economy to benefit one small minority and expect anything other than civil war eventually ( in other words, we are currently running things as poorly as a crack smoking African dictator with a room temperature IQ ( any similarity with Obammy was of course an unintended pun ). We have our poor classes for the most part pacified ( with a safety valve that they can lash out at whitey if he is foolish enough to go into the ghetto [ whitey pretty much just lashes out at his own kind in the trailer park ] ) but as soon as real hunger starts in this country, it all goes up like a bone dry pine forest. Which was watered by kerosene. Because for the most part, our rich and ruling elite have been plundering our economy for multiple generations in an environment of growth. There was always enough. They know no better, or if they do they don’t care, and will keep taking, unaware that the pie is shrinking now. Third World country dictators know better, and return enough graft to the poor masses to keep them quiet. We will just keep taking until the poor have nothing and revolt. Sure, the ride down will be bumpy, but good lord will it sure be sweet to string up a few Yuppie lawyers, bankers and politicians.

Yesterday Anon 10:01 am remarked,"The deer corn is in a lot of the stores now around here; less than $10 and you can get 50lbs of feed corn."

He did not say how to make it safe for people to eat. Feed corn here in East Texas is marked "not for human consumption."

Feed store whole cleaned oats ($10 for 50 lbs) has no such warning.

Chavez is less a big swinging dick than many suppose. His achilles heel is that only the U.S. and a couple other countries can refine Venezuela's high sulfur crude.

The World Oligarchs will slap him down if he gets too out of hand.

Ah yes, the smell of the French Revolution in the morning! It smells like... victory.

The reason the Frenchies do this better than us is, a little something called the French Revolution, AKA the Paris Games of 1788.

Somehow the memory remains among their ruling class that they *can* be done away with if they piss off the populace badly enough.

I would like to point out a curlique to your OP.

A lot of dicators that are falling now are discovering that resource depletion means they can not bribe the poor with the surplus they used to have.

The fall of egypt and libya 's dictators is due to hunger(because of increase grain costs), causing protests, causing crackdowns, causing a feedback loop leading to revolution.

So far Britian isnt going to fall, even with its violent riots because the people arent actually hungry.

Food stamps are our nations bribe to the poor.

The point that poor people in the USA are protesting because of hunger (AKA "we need more food stamp $ !")
will begin the process here.

If food stamps fail, head for the hills.

The dictators/rulers almost always choose to bribe the military/police over the masses of poor, in the end this usually fails. Of course the opposite choice results in a Coup.
And if the elites arent bribed/protected, they will happily orchastrate one or the other (coup/revolution).

Which in the end may be exactly what is happening in those oil producing countries right now. (no-one said the 'elite' had to be local... Isnt globalism fun!)

Deer corn is prone to mold and can have some toxicity because of this. You have to store it at a very low humidity level. If you use pickling lime and soak the corn to bring out the vitamins, it is also suppose to neutralize most of the mold toxin. Have stored it successfully in the past in a small quantity to test if it would just mold, but I got it really dry and sealed in airtight in buckets. Have not tried soaking and eating it yet. The toxicity takes a while to affect you, so if I was out of food, I'd roll the dice. Or, it may be easier to just buy the oats.

There is almost no livestock production near me, and "feed stores" don't have anything in large quantities. They are more like pet food stores. All the great prices on grain people describe at this site simply do not exist in my area.

Quote from poster in discussing making fresh corn tortillas at:

http://www.cheeseslave.com/2008/08/07/homemade-corn-tortillas-part-two/

"I’m not “allergic” to corn or beans but haven’t been able to eat them because of my sensitivities to the mycotoxins, etc (aflatoxin and aspergillus and maybe others are on corn/beans). My hands literally bleed after 20 minutes of eating them. After reading in Nourishing Traditions that soaking beans in water overnight with some lemon juice in it neutralizes the aflatoxin I decided to give it a try. NO reaction, yeah!! So, yes, I can eat properly soaked beans – a ton – and don’t bleed. After that success I thought I would venture a try with soaked corn. Yeah, no bleeding hands! I happen to have a very outward sign so I can tell."

This is consistent with what I have read elsewhere, that you can neutralize the toxins in cheap deer corn, the challenge is storing it without the mold growth taking over. It is not a great option, but cost-wise is the cheapest form of grain readily available in my area.

Sooo great Bison, just which corn is the one to buy, for to store on the cheap ?

Spud-I don't recommend corn anymore, at all, after my mold issue. Best to spend a tad more first on wheat and not worry.
