PEAK DEPRESSION
The guest article fiction The Border is back with a new chapter. Posted earlier.

A minion gently chastised me for getting so worked up about
Peak Oil
when an obvious economic meltdown was staring us in the face, making scary masks and ominous noises. I believe that an article written on Thursday was read on the weekend after the S&P downgrade of the US bonds or whatever happened. I was safely encased in my weekend
off the grid
Bison Compound retreat and didn’t hear the news until Monday morning. So, I can understand the comment. Allow me to respond with verve and wit ( and, before we start, I’m written this on Monday lunch and posting this ahead of my articles written on the weekend ).

Not to hint at a giant
conspiracy
, because obviously there is no hiding the fact that our economic masters have been frantically trying to save themselves from their own stupidity ( or at least their own Ponzi scheme ) for a few years but more so recently as the Japanese economy went sliding into the radioactive ocean and the Euro zone crashed and burned as the various tribes of Christians never quite forgave each other for centuries of war and can’t really get along, let alone loan each other real money because they all just know the lying bastards will never pay them back. But something doesn’t really smell right here. The
ratings agencies
were all hooting and hollering about downgrading the bond rating if the debt ceiling wasn’t raised, it was raised, and immediately thereafter we see the downgrade. By the same folks that raked in the big bonuses from lying about toxic real estate. My guess is that they just paid someone back, someone who didn’t throw the big fish in jail a few years back. Why, I can’t be sure. Someone obviously either profited from the present stock market panic ( remember the insiders that got rich shorting the exact same airlines that were jacked days before 9/11? ), or deliberately is trying to crash the market as a control mechanism. Remember us talking about the new
Plan B
being an economic depression as a way to stretch out the oil supply? Of course, an economic depression is inevitable once the growth of oil consumption reversed, our economy being nothing more than a resource growth skimming game, but there might be manipulation by those in control trying to manage the crash to their benefit. Okay, this thing could also be nothing more than a false panic to distract us from something more terrifying. It could be a way for a select few to profit. And it could be a way to slow down the economy faster than is natural as resources are worse off than we think.
*
What if the oil supply ( or at least the amount available for export ) dropped double digits in a matter of weeks. We open up the strategic reserve, maybe play around with futures to artificially tank the barrel price so as not to panic anyone ( via the Plunge Protection Team ), and now we have to get demand to crash suddenly before it is evident to Marvin Market that the oil isn’t available in the ports. I’m just guessing here, I don’t know for sure. Obviously. But what if the orchestrated economic dip due to a stock market crash is being used to hide the fact that the oil isn’t available? Sure, it’s
paranoid
. But the ratings drop just seems contrived. I’m not buying the straight up explanation. If the Chinese haven’t been buying our crap debt for years, but instead selling them back, if the fed gov is borrowing 40% of its spending, if our national debt doubled in just two years ( and no, as much as I hate the Muslim In Chief, it isn’t him- the Prez is just a puppet paid a half mil a year with a free Boeing 747 to act as the fall guy ), why now, suddenly, would a ratings agency call foul? I’m telling you, they are somebodies bitches, just like during the Real Estate Bubble. The only question is why.
*
Yet even if contrived, I still sense that the economy is on course for a much quicker demise than we would like to believe. Because, if you were in charge, wouldn’t it seem like a pretty groovy idea to drastically retard the masses intake of petroleum so that what was left kept you in power for several more decades? If Peak has already happened, if the Import Model is on line to cut our oil 50% because imports dry up, and very soon at that, if you could kill the economy you could survive in current comfort levels. Or even do better. Cars get repoed, no one drives, rolling blackouts cut the masses grid juice, and the few workers left run the security state, in perpetual fear of losing their jobs so they remain compliant. Social Security is inflated to almost nothing, parents move back in with adult children, all the underwater and
jingle key
homes get bulldozed to reduce the infrastructure needed to keep folks alive ( they triple up in city centers, abandon the suburbs, survive on rationed meat or
Soylent Green
and gardened produce ). Suddenly, our 50% petroleum cut is more than sufficient to keep the rich in comfort.
*
So, sure, an economic implosion is much more dangerous than Peak Oil. Yet, without the Peak Oil component, that kind of manipulated crash doesn’t seem plausible, does it? So I’ll keep plugging on about Peak Oil. It explains so much, including the heightened paranoia needed to figure things out.

I read “
Castigo Cay
” this weekend. 500 pages of kick ass novel. BUT. Not a post-apocalypse, and barely, just barely, hanging on to a thin thread maybe, a small part militia porn. It wasn’t like his “
Enemies” trilogy
, other than loosely borrowing the background slow crash. It was kind of a Special Forces Bad Ass On A Rescue Mission type of book. Damn good reading, but beware what you are getting for $20. A very pricey top notch normal novel. With a smidge of militia porn involved, but barely.

Oh I love the smell of paranoia in the morning.
You're take on this makes more sense than what the news says.
I'll go with it.
Idaho Homesteader
People aren't gettin' that hopium high anymore from the Dark Lord's speeches.
Poor people like me love it when the stock-market tanks. I think of all the money I didn't lose.
The riots last night in various UK cities should be happening in the U.S. but I think people are too anesthetized with modern trinketry to give a shit where the bus is going.
Good post today. Any optimism I woke up with is now gone, which is why I read you.
Yes, US Treasury notes get downgraded, the stock market falls, and where are people on Wall Street putting the money they took out of the stock market? The reports I heard, they preparing to buy into US Treasury notes with the idea that the govt will have to start paying higher interest rates... because of the downgrade. This is all some money making scheme for someone, but definitely not for you or I.
Foreign money is "at work" in our markets in ways we don't even imagine, to keep our economic turmoil perpetual. It's a form of war and the people who know it don't care because they are positioning themselves to benefit. They are the very definition of traitors.
Re: Castigo Cay. Matt Bracken's newest novel. it may not be like his other novels, but it's still good reading & the added bonus of buying from one of us. As for is other 3 novels--the 1 st one (yellow cover) and last one (blue cover) are great ! recommended reading. I donate 1 of each to my local Freinds of the NRA Dinner and another set to my State's 2 A Org each year. ''Life, Liberty, etc.com'' sells them for a good price. Also, not as well known but VERY GOOD- Neither Predator Nor Prey by Mark Spungin (pres of a Wy Shooting Sports Assoc) $20 s&h included.
