resource wars

RESOURCE WARS

Resource wars, it’s what’s for dinner. Resource wars are already a very concrete fact of life, although every American worth his SUV blatantly denies such a thing. And I’d wager that every Yuppie survivalist worthy of his plastic carbine denies such a thing. And I’d even place a left testicle on the line betting that eight out of ten Bison readers would proclaim to their dying breath that I am full of crap for blaspheming the American Way Of Life ( in Britain it was known as The White Mans Burden, at least having some panache by making it look like the Limey’s were all put upon trying to bring civilization to the savages- to all subjected people now and then it goes by colonialism ). To acknowledge that resource wars are reality, it would then follow that one would have to say that resources are indeed running out. Hell, just look at the problem we ( myself, the mouse in my pocket, and a few fools over at The Oil Drum- I’ve become a bit distrustful of certain other heretofore mentioned sites that are soft selling the crap out of Peak Everything like the sell out, pussy, pansy asses that they are ) are having pointing out, six friggin years AFTER the fact that Peak Oil is indeedily doodily here right friggin now.

*

Well, you see, er, I’d stipulate with Nth degree of probability that with the proper technological application and, purely coincidentally you surely understand, a grant to my prestigious think tank/university, we can further the possibility that the green algae from my ass will power up our super fleet of flying cars very soon. Failing that of course, why, we simply just turn Colorado into an open pit, mine all the tar rock, use piped in water and piped in natural gas to process it, and with ONLY a minus Energy Return On Energy Invested of around two, we power up our future American Empire.

*

Christ on a bent pogo stick, you can’t run an empire founded on 200-1 EROEI oil gushers with ethanol returning one half to two times energy, or with tar rock with an even lower return. You can’t even run it on deep water wells giving a ten or twenty to one. It isn’t about running out of oil, we will run out of corn first. It is about running out of cheap oil, which has already happened. Our imports decline in the range of five percent a year. Our percentage of corn turned to ethanol goes up steadily. We are already, have already, been fighting to control more and more of the diminishing oil. And the rest of the world is following. Egypt might have transitioned relatively peacefully, but in spots were the oil is, the civil wars are brutal. Either fighting as our proxy, or fighting for their lives, no one gets out easy if oil is involved. You all look around like frightened weasels, ready to scurry back into your sheetrock and stucco burrows ( okay, I don’t know if weasels actually have burrows, but I liked the symmetry ), thinking this is all new and frightening. Crap, this stuff is old as the hills.

*

I won’t confuse everyone, especially myself, by going back too far and using tribes I can’t even pronounce as examples, so let’s just meander back a bit in American history. Before the Comanche Indians started riding around Texas scaring everybody who showed up for a Spanish land grant, they were a pitiful and sad precursor. All the other surrounding Indians had kicked their pathetic asses until what was left of them huddled in some crap stained corner of Wyoming. And then, bless their pea picking hearts, the Spanish showed up with horses. One tribe got ahold of a few, and very quickly, in just a few generations, the Comanche had masters the animals to such a degree that they surpassed all other tribes. No other tribe matched the Comanche in mounted combat ( few even tried, most just riding to battle and then dismounting ). This was such an advantage, the Comanche started taking over the entire lower plains, the most fertile buffalo hunting grounds. Their memories of past injustices was on par with eastern European tribes in, say, Yugoslavia, although they were much better at extracting vengeance without having to worry about tank spare parts replacement or fuel.

*

The Apache, who had the same kind of fanatical love for agriculture as most survivalists ( I’ll give up my asparagus when they pry it from my cold dead fingers! ), were in a nice fertile corner of Oklahoma and were especially hated by the Comanche. The Comanche proceeded to drive them off the farm and into the wastelands of the southwest. The Comanche empire eventually encompassed the entire buffalo population to the south ( the Sioux got the north ). They took over their food source and violently kept all others out ( contrary to “unstoppable bulldozer force of train transported white buffalo hunters” myth, the Comanche recognized this threat to their food and fought back, especially targeting the hunters. Only industrialization and vast European immigrants overwhelmed them ). They were just as efficient at controlling their food as the US is at controlling the oil. Both, of course, were eclipsed by historical forces.

*

Fighting over food ( oil is our food proxy ) is normal. Everyone does/did it. And if you think you are safe in a fort in Indian Country ( look up the writings of Rachel Taulman- the family fort built at the edge of Texas civilization would be enviable by today‘s modern survivalist ), able to stop a mass mobilization to forcibly take over that food, you are delusional ( as delusional as I am about herding. It isn‘t about who is right, it is about recognizing the hazards in your plans ). Mass violent migration is the norm. As the War Of Northern Aggression general stated, you need to get there firstest with the mostest. You must anticipate others violent attempts to take your farm, and proactively defend it. It isn’t a pretty subject, and peaceful Christians more afraid of Lucifer than invading savages will resist going on the offensive. Which is strange, considering their upstanding, moral superior attitude about our occupation of the middle east. Perhaps if you pretend to be bringing democracy to the surrounding areas, it will be alright to engage in genocide since Baby Jesus will be on your side.

Rachel Taulman? Amazon, Yahoo, and Wikipedia haven't heard of her. A typo? Too obscure and I'm too lazy in my research? Inquiring minds...

I buy only subsonic 22LR, quiet from 22" or longer barrel. I have fired only CCI, Remington and Aguila SSS subsonic.

Remington and CCI subsonic group inside 1" at 50 yards from Marlin 25N and Ruger 10-22 both 1:16 twist barrels. I have not fired Aguila SSS in those barrels.

Aguila SSS groups 3/8" inch at 50 yards from Ruger 10-22 with EAB.com 1:9 twist barrel. I have not fired CCI and Remington subsonic in that barrel.
NOTE-- A reliable pal says that Aguila SSS shoots inside 1.75" at 50 yards from Ruger 10-22 with standard 1:16 twist barrel.

Who in power, exactly, is supposed to step forward and declare that we are using resources beyond the capacity of the planet?

Any politician stating that the economy is in an inevitable state of decline due to resource depletion would lose their job to the candidate stating that he/she can make it all better if elected with their three-point economic plan.

Any corporate executive or economist buying into the notion that we are at a zero sum game (resources = number of people X standard of living), at best, would be tarred and feathered for spouting such socialist nonsense. "Why, that's class warfare to state that my increased profits are impoverishing someone else." "Of course I can take a $6 million dollar bonus, there is plenty to go around." If people cannot buy into a no-growth model of the future, how can you expect them to buy into a negative growth model?

I am also reading the same book about the Comanche as you are. It was their mastery of the horse, using bows which provided rapid fire, mounted combat, night fighting by the full moon, and utter total ruthlessness which made them so feared and effective. White men only got the upper hand on them when repeating firearms made the scene after the Civil War. The Spanish were at first happily surprised that their old enemies, the Apache, mysteriously disappeared over three years. Until the much worse Comanche showed up. Anyone worried about raiders should study the tactics of the plains horse tribes. That is what you must be able to deal with.

Once the mega-corpo-farms can't get cheap natural gas or crude oil produced fertilizer or pesticides then the true resource wars will begin. Without cheap high-carb-filling foods the masses will go into withdrawal and like a crackhead looking for a fix it will be on.
In the final spindown of the western countries, we will see a chaos possibly near the levels that were described in American Apocalypse by the author Nova. However, that Apocalypse just covered the US. The rest of the world will also face the cruel math. Too many people, not enough resources. Nature will correct the problem.
I give even odds that China will nab Taiwan and then skip on over to alaska to take that as payment for all the bogus treasuries we have been selling them. :)

Sounds to me that if we plant hemp we would need little or no chemical fertilizer. Federal law forbids raising hemp.

http://ezinearticles.com/?Advantages-of-Growing-Hemp&id=2679607
When most plants grow, they deplete the soil of vital nutrients and leave it with less vitality for the next crop. Hemp actually revitalizes the soil it grows in, both by aerating the soil and through the deposit of carbon dioxide in to it. This makes hemp ideal for crop rotation, and the crop that follows in the soil hemp grew in will develop better than if hemp had not been used.
These have been just the benefits from growing the plant, but there are even more for applying it. When hemp is used in the production of paper, fuel, and plastic substitutes, the resulting products are much cleaner and greener. For example, tree made paper requires the use of many harmful chemicals, both for the production and as preservatives. Hemp paper does not need these chemicals, and hemp fuel burns cleaner than gasoline or diesel.

Ron Paul is for growing hemp.

Hemp (Cannabis sativa) – Hemp immediately makes us think of drugs. But there is no need for that! Marijuana is made from a different plant of the same family. Hemp contains such a tiny amount of THC (the psychoactive chemical found in marijuana) that it has no negative effects on humans. Hemp is actually one of the most healthful plants ever known to mankind. On top of that, it lends itself to the production of paper, cosmetics, building materials, textiles, non-toxic diesel fuel, paint, varnish, detergent, ink, lubricating oil, etc. Hemp is an unpretentious plant that can be grown in many climates.......
Hemp seeds contain omega-6-fatty acids, omega-3-fatty acids, gamma linoleic acid; 25% of high quality protein with all essential and non-essential amino acids; 20-30% of carbohydrates; dietary fibre; phytochemicals; the minerals phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, and zinc; vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, C, E, folacin, and biotin; carotenoids; and chlorophyll.
Internal use: Hemp oil comprises 75-90% of essential fatty acids. It helps to prevent arteriosclerosis, heart disease, heart attack, stroke, and blood clots, and it significantly reduces the symptoms of neurodermite, rheumatoid arthritis, and PMS. Hemp oil lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels and dilates blood vessels. Hemp oil is very helpful in case of infections, allergies, skin diseases, liver spots on the skin, dandruff, dermatitis, and brittle and dull hair. It improves the condition of hair, skin, and nails. Take a tablespoonful of hemp oil daily or add it to salads and other foods. Add oil after removing food from direct heat. Both hemp oil and hemp seeds boost the immune system. Hemp seeds help lower the levels of cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar; they relieve and heal the symptoms of arthritis, depression, fatigue, constipation, and migraine. Hemp seeds are good in case of food allergies and food intolerances. ..............

Rachel Taulman fictional/historical (not sure) character from 'Frontier Blood.' But appropriate anecdote.
Nice rant oh Great One... "the green algae from my ass will power up our super fleet of flying cars very soon." "I'll give up my asparagus, when they pull it from my cold dead fingers." Love it. Content as always was food for thought.S.D.

To Anonymous 2:59,

You screwed up again. Didn't you take that English class at the library like I recommended?

You messed up TWICE, you needed to use "you're" as in "you are" not "your" as in a possessive.

Learn to write right. (Let's see how long it takes Anon to figure that out.)

Vlad,

Thanks for the info on the subsonic .22. I want to get a couple thousand rounds of something worth stock piling.

All blessings to the Great Hairy One.

Nice jab, I.H.! It amazes me that we are so completely surrounded by Dolts that are not only allowed to survive but THRIVE. I suppose this is why I impatiently anticipate the collapse because the dimmer of the species will inevitably be removed. (Lord, please let me be right about that.)
