If it is true that I am an introvert, which I’m not really convinced of because that implies I don’t share well with others and as any unfortunate schmuck who ever reads more than about three articles here could tell you, I try not to hold back how I’m feeling ( and, no, its not all negative as I’ll always get all weepy and feminine on you and thank you profusely for giving me free stuff ), if it is true that might mean I only think of myself. Not that there’s anything wrong with that ( insert Seinfeld smirk ). As one of the least appreciated great bands of all time, The Sex Pistols, were fond of pointing out, you don’t got no feelings for anyone else ( your beautiful self! ), except for yourself. They also were enamored with friggin in the riggin, but we won’t delve too deeply into that. Look, I’m the best friggin person I know. I’m the most interesting person I’ve ever met. And odds are good that after the day I die, I still won’t have been graced by anyone’s presence that impresses me as much as my own. Okay, sure, I didn’t include Baby Jesus, but that’s a bit of apples to oranges, isn’t it? There is nothing wrong with loving yourself. Since you’re stuck with the idiot in the mirror forever, you might as well enjoy the company. The problem begins when you become so distracted with yourself that you start to ignore everyone else.

The idea for this article was hatched in the comments section as I began debating the feasibility of the Ferguson rifle. I thought I had clearly stated this was an investment for arming groups. And I end up debating what was best for an individual ( far cheaper to stock more primers than you’ll ever need than making/buying a Ferguson ). I’m not dogging on this minion. If I suck up to him properly and bat my eyelashes, perhaps I can pick his brain on improvised powder, primers and cases. That would make a great book of short length that I could charge out the wazoo for ( Solsys, want to co-author and split the profits? ). Of all the research I’ve done, I’ve never come across any ammo case improve ( I’m imagining a mold around a spent case which is filled with something like paper mache and hollowed out for the upper part of the case, attached to the original bottom brass part. I might be full of crap ). The primer filling and smokeless powder are easier, albeit dangerous as hell. But the point was, we were looking at things from two different angles. I’m thinking of equipping an army, creating an arms industry, and he is thinking of stockpiling for the individual. It isn’t that the group is more important than the individual, it is merely that we tend to not take the actions of the group into consideration.

The worst offenders here are the pacifist homesteaders. Backwoods Home magazine is their bible. Their whole thing is going to the country and becoming self sufficient in food production. If armed, they are prepared for vicious bear or panther attack. Ignored are the economy, as it might effect their gas needed to commute, or their job needed to pay off the land. And, it is never a consideration that they are, in essence, dependent on the military industrial colonization industry that protects them from invaders. They flee the city and taxes, but are still dependent on what those support. They never stop and think, if my libertarian/anarchist fantasies come true, I’ll be fighting off Chinese occupiers. Nor do they consider the buffering effect of others, who are dependent of oil and centralization in keeping the peace so they aren’t attacked by wild Indians and their ilk. They are all about me, and don’t look at we. You must always look at the big picture, not because you care about other people, but because it will impact on YOU.
*
You need to care about what happens, even if you don’t care who it effects besides yourself. While the banks are falling like dominos in Europe, you need to worry how that will effect your $63.44 in your savings account. Back when political parties actually stood for something, you paid attention to their actions to try to foresee future laws ( no need now, as they are all one party and increased centralization is baked into the cake until break up and collapse ). A good example of how self-centered thinking is used against you is the economic collapse. By blaming it on the housing market, the spin doctors make it about each individuals most cherished asset. It is misdirection that is eagerly embraced ( oh, they GET IT! They understand about my feelings for my castle! They love me and will save me! ). That way you ignore the bigger picture like Peak Oil and empire collapse ( not most of my minions, I’m sure, if for no other reason than if you bring up anything else I scream and shriek like a wild banshee ). You are the most important person, but you need to always be paranoid about how others are out to screw you. That way, you study the big picture and know most of the threats. Living in a self centered survival capsule will lead to a lot of blind spots.

As I’m sure you’ve noticed ( warning- subject change from main article ), I’m not including those annoying highlighted links in my articles anymore. Not because I don’t want to, but because the software has been nonfunctional for weeks. I didn’t necessarily expect them to increase my Amazon commission sales, although it would have been nice. I also was hoping they pointed out books and supplies you had never encountered before. Oh well. You can’t always get what you want, and you get what you pay for. It does save me a lot of time though. Just get used to this new way, the top of the page graphic with the daily link to Amazon ( okay, it stays the same over the weekend, don’t bust my chops ). If you don’t buy my crap, buy Amazons crap through my links!

I think your thought about Piezo ignition bears thinking about.
Making your own primers ? Yeah right, maybe get a minion or two...watch them go boom from a distance lol
I say the same things about not ever having met my equal...
Hi It`s Solsys, posting from a school trip where I found half an hour to access the internet and reply.
My post was actually about arming a militia of sorts. Costs are costs. It is cheaper to stockpile primers than to gather materials to manufacture rifles. If it comes down to manufacturing black powder rifles, then there will probably be enough useless firearms a bit here and there. Chances arem if you and your people are alive in the first place, you have some of these firearms.
That said.
In several conflicts, such as Wendell Fertig's resistance movement in the Philippines during WW2 ("They fought alone" is a must-read, just to show how one smart guy's rag-tag army led to decisive information leading to the destruction of a complete japanese fleet - and how incompetente US military bureaucracy was. The book is a precious insight into what went wrong with the USA as early as the 40's) well in those conflicts some people build up zip gun from scratch.
Then, a priming method was a lit cigarette (cigarette gun"). Renaissance weapons used a smoldering rope as an ignition method as well.
In the end, these weapons really are about a piece of pipe, some wood and some rope. One such weapon is lousym but used wisely by a militia of sorts in combination of reconnaissance, traps, mines and coordination, it could be efficient.
